hi, all:

several nights ago, i attended a party with my new k-5 and DA 18-135 lenses. After taking some photoes, I found my picture wasn't clear or too dark. If i put higher iso like 6400 or higher, my picture would have many dots. if lower, my photo is too dark. I don't want to use built-in flash since the result wasn't that good. i think i put white balance on AWB. how can i do in such not well lit home enviornment? did i do something wrong?

BTW, I use P mode.

Just start to use RAW for my pictures. I wonder if you use Pentax Digital Utility 4 or PS? i heard only PS5 has capability for converting this format.

Any suggestions? Thanks.

difference between "focus indicator" with "matte field"

Thanks. I will stick with Focus indicator method for now if I need to use MF. As an new Dslr user, I found it is not easy to do manual focus.
Also, in manual, it says I need to turn the focus ring( not zoom ring). So I think it is the smaller ring on the lens. That is what I practiced this morning as well. If you could confirm my guess, that would be great. Pls see the attached.

In manual P132-133, it shows two ways to use MF focus mode. In ur opinion, which way is easier to use? For me, I like to hear a beep before I press the shutter release button fully.

is there any benefit to use matte field?

HI all

I am using DA 18-135. Could anyone tell me what is the functionality for the little ring on the rear side of the lens? And how to use it? My dealer told me if I use it improperly like in MF, it could be burnt.

Thanks.

I just bot my first dslr one week ago. Feel proud every moment. After reading comments from this forum and my menu book, I get used to use AV and P mode to shoot my shots. However, I still not sure how to use MF control? I belive when I use AV and super P mode, I am using AFC. But when I switch to MF, do I need to select aperture, shutter speed and ISO?

THANKS and eager to see you guys comments.

Hi, all

I believe I figured out most after reading thoroughly the menu book and comments from this thread. I will use P, AV or TV based on the situation. But still have a small doubt: how do I use MF?

Hi all:

Thanks for your quick response. My lense is smc pentax DA 18-135. The following is my further question

Adam:
So I am still in AFS? When I TV, and set speed, I found the aperture F is shinning. i guess it means my camera is under exposure. What should I do? Increase ISO?

Lowell:
is the formula the slowest shutter speed I should have? Why?

Hi, everyone, I just bot a k-5 yesterday

Hi, all:

It is so excited to join this great K-5 forum. I Just bought a k-5 yesterday from a pentax dealer in China, also a pentax 18-135mm and 35mm Macro lense.

This pentax is the first dslr I have owned, for this, I have searched for over one and half year. Just one month ago, I am still thinking of a portable camera with high IQ like Leica M8. Being an architect in china after studying and living in US for last 10 years, I want to shot alot of things to record my thougts and discoveries everyday. But with that high price of M8, I switched my focus to relatively cheaper option like Xpro1/nex 7. None can satisfy my several choosing criteria like portable, camera shape, IQ, price and etc. When I was in a famous camera shop in HK last week, I saw a yellow k-01. I immediately find out this pentax might be what I am looking for. The design look of k-01 attracted me hugh. Can't you guys image? I never heard of Pentax in the past.

K-5, here I comes!
