They've wisely put some excellent glass on it and around it.

What's more absurd: the K3 isn't even out yet. Why would anyone expect anything in terms of manual localisation!?!?

Pixel density is pretty much the same of the D800(E) -- if you crop to 1.5.
I'd expect slightly better IQ than what the D800E delivers (pixel based) -- with the right lenses, that is.

There's no practical difference between 23.3 and 24MP.

The Oly isn't APS-C, right.
And really, what picture can't you take with 1/180 and flash that you can take at 1/250? The difference is negligible. Really want better flash sync? Get a leaf shutter.

I don't see how 1/200 or 1/250 would make for a relevant improvement over 1/180. That's 1/3 to 1/2 EV.
Get into leaf shutter territory (medium format; NOT in the 645D) and you can have 1/500 to 1/1.000 easily. That seems more like it.

I'm sure they'll not announce anything new the day before the IFA Berlin starts.
Why would they, it would make no sense at all.

We're on page 164, of course, EVF, FF and "pentax is doomed" have to be mentioned.
Because the K3 is, of course, an FF EVIL with a new bayonet and not a new high res APS-C DSLR flagship for a good price.

The days of the OVF are only numbered if you see major adoption of EVF. You currently don't.
It'll eventually get there, but until you see Canon/Nikon put EVF into their high-end and midrange you'll have to wait for the statement to be true ;).

Because it's "secret".
If you want to know the location, you maybe should check out if there's coincidentally a large tech exhibiton starting the day after.

So, do you doubt that they'll release more cameras this year, and even if they do, they'll be less attractive deals than the current line-up?
Nah ;).

You make it sound like as if Pentax doesn't have a digital MF camera (Nikon? Canon? Sony? Don't have that) or the K5II/s (compare it to the competition...).
And you also make it sound like as if since Pentax now has released long missed entry level cameras and a few compacts, they're not going to release anything else.
And you also make it sound like as if developing high end cameras is child's play and takes no time.
Why don't you start your own camera company and show Pentax how it's done already.
I wonder what narrative you'll switch to in September. Sigh.

Pentax also didn't release a black and white full frame viewfinder camera a few years ago when Leica released theirs.
You really want to discuss why Pentax didn't release a FF mirrorless before Sony?
Ever considered that Pentax hasn't even released a DSLR in FF yet? The reasons are the same. So are we going to have the same arguments all over and just add "mirrorless" once in a while?
What a useful thread.

Pah, old news. People already got used to it. Pentax better get ready to release a new product every week, otherwise certain people will never be happy.

We just had a not so small release not that long ago :).

It's neither a strawman argument nor impossible.
Just very unlikely. And if you've read the rest of my post you just took out of context, you'd understand why I was making that argument.

I don't think you got what I was saying.
The mass-market stuff pays for the research and development of fancy tools that are way above "average". Pentax could either go the Leica-strategy and become very, very expensive and aim at a very small but high-level niche, or do what they're currently doing. Which I prefer.

Imagine Pentax goes bankrupt because of not making enough money and nobody cares for PK-lenses anymore.
Unless you've sold all your gear before that, you'll likely use a lot of money. So your interest should also be in the survival of the PK-mount.
Even though you might not be interested in the entry to mid-level market at all -- those sales pay for development of gear that likely suits your needs and ensures that PK lives on.

The current Pentax lineup is to increase sales where it matters. And that's not where many people in forums think it does (entry level/mid range actually covers most of the market -- not high end).
There's still quite a difference between the K5II and K50/500, but sure, you guys keep talking that down. Go trade in your K5II (IF you have one) if there's really no significant difference.
Arguing that Pentax doesn't have a plan while holding such viewpoints is hilarious.
Obviously, the current release is part of a plan. You'll get your high end toys in due time. Until then, you'll have to play with what's available.

Your argument is backwards.
Let me ask you: should Pentax not try to compete with the other entry to mid-range cameras that make for >50% of the market share?
What you're really asking for is Pentax to satisfy your personal needs, but that's only a few percent of what the market wants.
So you actually want Pentax's market share to shrink to even lesser numbers than 5%!?
Try making sense.
The K500 is an easy sell. Read the specs, look through the viewfinder...
Pentax could only sell more units by writing "Canon" on it, but I doubt Canon would allow that.
The camera is perfect for the low price sector (~20% of the market, that's still way more than high end).
This camera will pay for the development of further products.
