Not sure what the previous pentax lens you had is like but I may understand what you mean.
The kit lens for my Panasonic G1 uses internal focusing (it moves an element on the inside, the lens barrel doesnt extend/retract at all during focus) so its quite fast and quiet to the shooter (although still hella noisy for video). This is unlike most kit lenses (including the Pentax ones) which I find incredibly noisy, especially when they smack into minimum or infinity focus lol.
So if what you had before is like that then yea the Sigma 50 may seem clunkier.
For me, I find the Sigma 50 much smoother and faster to focus than the Canon kit lenses and the Canon 50 f/1.8.
Oh and yea, we warned ya, that lens is massive LOL

haha, I'll be happier either way. Either I'll know I didnt waste an extra $200 or I'll find a good deal on something else.
Curiosity is a b_____ though, I cant stop wondering.

Hah I didnt even bother to look, nice catch. I know Frys does actually have really good sales from time to time (I believe there was a T3i kit on sale for 600 a little bit ago).
This further enforces my mentality of "you get what you paid for" and "if it looks too good to be true, it probably is"
I'll still try and drop by that other shop though. If its legit, they may have other things I'm interested in, at good prices.. lol

I'm not assuming anything, which is why I still want to go check it out myself.
But come on, a small local shop like this isnt the same as Frys, which most likely gets lower prices from the manufacturer due to the volume they sell at. So they dont lose as much profit when they have clearances.
A random store like this doesnt seem to have the capital for something like that. And plus it doesnt say its a sale, it just says $299.
Maybe living in only cities my whole life has made me too suspicious lol. Also recently experienced a bait and switch scam back in HK (didnt fall for it but still, sheesh some people just have no morals)
And yea I figured $515 is a bit high for a used K-r. But I couldnt find a WHITE used K-r for anything lower. And I watched a white K-x auction end at 405 the week prior.
New white K-r also seem to still sell at retailers (who still have them in stock) for higher than their black/blue/red counterparts. Its stupid, but people like white (including my gf). Is $515 really that bad for a like new condition K-r kit?
I understand things get cheaper over time, my Lumix G1 goes for $200 now when I bought it for $600+
It just hurts to see a lower price the very next day lol >.<
But like I said in my original post, I'm mostly suspicious. Not really as mad as some of you guys make me seem :|

I won an ebay auction for a used K-r, for $515.
The picture is of a completely different K-r being sold by a local shop, advertised as new for $299.
So I'm mad that I won an auction for a K-r at $515 when I could have bought it at a store, new for $299.
Warranty and grey market/refurb dont matter much to me. The used K-r I bought is probably already out of warranty anyway.
lol yea I read about those kinds of scams online. Found an article about shops in the past, in NYC, that have gotten in trouble for those kinds of practices.
I'm guessing this shop is doing something similar then.

Could be for the K-x.. still a pretty good price though, unless its body only.
I looked around on google maps, I think the store is called "55th Digital"
Not many reviews for it, seems kinda sketchy.

So I recently won a used White K-r on Ebay for $515 after shipping. Its a gift to my gf.
I told one of my friends about this and she shows me this...
As you can imagine... I'm a bit pissed, confused, and mostly suspicious.
Its a store in NYC, on 57th and 6th ave. My friend doesnt remember the name of it. But it seems like one of those small mom and pop electronics stores.
My theories:
1. False advertisement. The ad only says "Pentax DSLR." They could be selling body only, used, different model, etc.
2. Bait and switch. They dont have the camera in stock, and will convince people to buy something else more expensive.
3. Pentax is just that damn unpopular in the city, they need to get rid of their stock.
What do you guys think?
I'm gonna try to drop by the store after work today and see whats up.....

Oh definitely, I agree with you on that.
But issues with the Sigma seem to be more common than with first party lenses since Sigma is forced to reverse engineer each company's AF algorithms (or at least I know Canon and Nikon dont give that info out, not sure bout Pentax).
Some people have issues so bad that even AF micro adjust cant fix.
Not saying all Sigma lenses are like this, but its something to check out when the lens arrives.

That sounds like the most likely cause to me.
Has happened to me before actually. Its part of the reason why some live performance places dont allow flash photography lol.

Agreed.
I bought my Sigma used for about 380-400 bucks, cant remember. And there are actually signs of use on this lens when I bought it.
For a new in box Sigma 50 1.4, you could get plenty.
It is definitely a nice lens though.
Only issue is that it may have front focus. It has slight FF on my 5D, but so slight it doesnt bother me.
If you're unlucky, Sigma will calibrate the lens for you if you tell them what body youre using it with (better method is to send your body with the lens but you dont HAVE to).
Its free under warranty but you do have to pay to ship to them, they cover return shipping.

The front element is indeed huge and impressive. Mine seems to have become a magnet for lots of small scratches though :|
No doubt thanks to non-photographer friends who have handled my camera before, sigh.
I have that sigma for my Canon 5D though. And even with that setup, the lens outweighs my 5D with a L-plate attached lol...
My friend mounted it to her T1i (almost same size as K-r) and that setup looked intimidating haha.
It was harder to hold the T1i though since the balance was so far off. Hope you have good arm strength XD
