I used to cover the Jeux du Quebec in 2016 in Montreal, and yes it was hard to choose...
These ones of canoe-kayak were my favorites !
Many good ones never published ... I should revisit them one day !

I never ended up sending it to LeZot. I emailed them about doing the repair and I told them what lube Advance used in my camera, and LeZot told me the lube was fine. They then said they dont think any repair they'd do would be any different in outcome. So they said my camera is basically unrepairable. I gave up on fixing it.

Clackers' Beginners Tip 84: 'Decisive Moments' In Sports

Good morning, all. Not a great start to the week, my wife just confessed that she broke my favourite lamp.

I don't think I'll be able to look at her in the same light ever again.

But a new restaurant's opening up in my suburb called 'Karma'.

There's no menu. Instead, you get what you deserve.

This week, I want to talk about the situation where you need to choose just one of your keepers from a sports event to submit or show or put on social media. We have to put aside being hobbyists who love what we do - in which case we'd post all four hundred shots - to thinking about what an otherwise uninvolved viewer would like to see.

Shots of 'two men and a ball' are a dime a dozen. And because athletes train themselves to have repeatable techniques, golf swings, basketball free throws and tennis backhands will pretty much yield identical pictures from the same shooting position.

In sports, it can pay off to look for emotion from the participants rather than any game action.

A pro sports photographer covering the Australian Open here in Melbourne told me his editor at the metropolitan daily wouldn't use the pic of the decisive point with the ball hitting the net or whatever, he would always go for the celebration to the crowd by Nadal or Federer or whoever when it was over. It was as if he could almost skip the game itself.

It can be handy to know where a player's coaching dugout or family are sitting, so that as a goal is kicked or a century scored in cricket, you can get the reaction of the player, then turn and get his posse's celebrations too.

In the pic below (I think with the K-S2 and Sigma 150-500mm), ignoring where the ball was during the gameplay I wanted to capture this side event. I had a feeling I might be required to testify to some tribunal later that week if punches were thrown, but it didn't come to that.

To finish with, there's the story of the man and woman who had never met before, finding themselves on upper and lower berths of a long distance train.

At 2am, the man leans over and says, "Sorry to bother you, would you be kind enough to give me a second blanket from the side table? Its awfully cold."

"l have a better idea," she replied, "Just for tonight, why don't we pretend that we're married?"

"Great idea, madam!" he replied in excitement.

She said: "Then get up and take it yourself."

When I heard the train joke (steam-hauled, in those days) it was a Nun and a Priest. How times change.

Preja-vu is, of course, a sense of 'I am going to be here again'. When it occurs in a Courtroom, it is worrying.

And a Max Miller, for all us oldies :

'Roses are red
Violets are blue -

How do I know ?

I saw them on the washing line'.

I still have a K7 to go along with my K3 and in daylight the performance is fantastic, I love to pair my K7 with a SMC 50mm f1.7 and use manual focus. As you have already mentioned, it has a great design and is a solid and reliable camera even today :)

Traveling south on Route 101, I woke up early in the morning in heavy fog near the shore of the Ocean. As soon as I climbed a little on the road, suddenly sunshine appeared and I found myself just above the "marine layer". Taken in 1979 with a Minolta XE-7 + MC 24 mm f/2.8 on Kodachrome 25 film.

I made this self portrait in October 2018, but it was a remake of a self portrait that I originally made in November 2013 using my Bronica S2.

In 2013 I had the opportunity to try out a Kalimal Reflex SL. An early and fairly basic 6x6 SLR from the 1960s I think. The camera came with 4 different lenses. An 80mm f/3.5 triplet, an 80mm f/2.8 5 element (I think), a 150mm f/4 short tele, and a 52mm f/3.5 wide-angle.
These are somewhat strange cameras that look a bit like a TLR minus the viewing lens, but I actually really liked the camera. The 80/2.8 is actually an impressive little lens, and the 80/3.5 is tiny.
Think photo is from the strange looking 52/3.5 wide-angle.

Thank you both for relaying the news, also sorry to hear this.
RIP, Colton. A great talent with a gift for design and seeing compositions, and one who never gave up. I was in awe of his recent posts on this forum using his "eye composition" equipment.

Thanks for letting us know, very sad news....

Colton will be missed and he had an incredible eye for a unique shot.

Loosing Colton and Steve in one year is a great loss for the forum.

RIP Colton!

Phil.

thank you! I shoot events for a living (digital) so film almost always is for my get-aways but you're right I do need to vacation more!.
and to stay on topic here's another photo taken right after the other one - to kind of show it looks warm but was actually pretty chilly!

This is from the very first roll of Kodak Ektar 100 that I ever shot, back in the summer of 2009... Ironically I didn't really like the results I got and it took until 2014 for me to really like Ektar... I think most of the reason I didn't like the film was from not knowing how to scan Ektar properly.
