Item for Sale
Pentax Q7 and 01, 02, 06 lenses

Asking Price
350.00 USD

Item Location
Oregon (United States)

Item Description
As pictured. I prefer to sell as a set, but I can do individual items after a while.

I'd like 350 for the set, shipped and paypaled.

Q7 in black, charger, USB cable, battery, screen protector film (removable), no box.

01 prime with box

02 zoom with box

06 zoom, no box

I have 2 rear caps and 3 lenses, which isn't a problem if you leave one mounted on the body.

I made a lens hood for the 06 out of empty filter rings, shown. I use it on the 06 but I'm pretty sure it fits on any of these lenses, though it might vignette on the 02 (I haven't tried).

Please recommend an olympus mirrorless for my wife

I love the E-P5, which has the 5-axis stabilization from the E-M5 plus a tilt screen. It also shares a battery with the E-M5/E-M1, etc, so you can fit it nicely into a multi-camera system once you realize how good it is. The only downside is shutter shock, which can be tuned-out using anti-shock mode.

The E-PL5, E-PL6, E-PL7 are also solid choices, but only offer 3-axis stabilization and aren't built as nicely (though probably slightly lighter). Some of these can flip the screen for selfies.

I wouldn't get too caught up in the details. Olympus releases new bodies on a schedule rather than based on features. Anything newer than 2012 should be fine if you like the ergonomics. For the most part the sensors are the same, and the menus are convoluted-yet-powerful on even the cheap bodies, and they all focus fast when using a newer lens.

The Panasonic-Leica 15mm looks to be great, though I haven't used it and I don't like WA.

Any of the cheap 1.8 primes should be considered, though I don't personally like the Olympus 17/1.8. The Sigma 60/2.8 is a shockingly good lens, too. I can't recommend any standard zoom, the only wide-to-tele zoom that I've liked is the Olympus 12-40/2.8, which is big and heavy. Many people like the old Panasonic 14-45 though.

I've mixed Olympus and Panasonic bodies/lenses for years without problems. I wouldn't feel constrained to use only one brand.

composing in 4:3 easier than 3:2

I agree.

I consider µ43 to be a 4:3 version of an APS-C sensor because it is close in size to an APS-C sensor with the sides removed to make what is, in my opinion, a better aspect ratio. Reducing the diagonal this way also lets the lenses get faster and smaller with better usage of an image circle.

If this is still setup, could you please search for the cause of the vertical line in the middle of the K-7 sensor?

I've read a theory that the K-7 sensor is made from two sensor modules joined in the middle.

How do these screws become loose? I've used a lot of lenses and haven't ever seen those screws come loose.

What is the likelihood that whatever caused the loose screws doesn't also mean that the seller is hiding something?

Personally, I'd pass on this lens unless I had the chance to try it myself and it was very cheap.

The reason I'd pass is that filter damage typically results from dropping the lens onto something hard. A shock like this can damage alignment, which can ruin pictures.

Of course, it could be something else entirely and maybe the optics are great. That's why you test it personally and pay careful attention to your results.

I imagine that a Pentax repair facility can replace the filter threads and realign the lens for a fee of, I'd guess, $100-$150. So then lens would have to be cheap enough that repair is economically feasible, plus factor in 2 months of wait time to ship the lens, wait in queue, and get it back.

Here's a question for you: if the lens is perfect and repair is cheap and the seller is trustworthy, then why is he selling it?

A Panasonic GF2 is cheap and can be hacked for higher video quality without a 30 minute limit.

GH2 video quality is a bit better, but depending on your needs the GF2 is fairly capable and can be found for $40-$60. For example: Panasonic Lumix DMC GF2 12 1 MP Digital Camera White Body Only | eBay

Canon 250 mp ASPH sensor.

Looks like a 35mm on that using APS-H, which is approx. 45mm equivalent. So 18km is pretty far away to read text, even if the text is the size of an airplane.

Just a guess based on the photo.

Personally, I'd rather have a sensor that performs better in low light than one that kills my disk drive.

Pentax is going to lose me because of 4K

Choosing a system capable of shooting better video than Pentax is a perfectly good reason to switch.

Using a 4K capable camera to shoot video is a perfectly reasonable thing to do.

Best of luck with your switch. I concurrently shot many systems, including Pentax, Olympus, Panasonic, Canon, Nikon, and some Sony. In the end I chose Olympus+Panasonic and I haven't looked back. All of these cameras are amazingly capable for shooting still images, but Panasonic (and in some circumstances Sony) shoots video at a higher level. And you'll appreciate the difference.

Considering an Olympus M-10

The E-M10 is great. Personally, I have an E-M5, which adds the super-useful 5-axis IBIS and can be found used for $300 every day. Throw in an Olympus 45/1.8 and you've got an amazing kit.

Lots of folk on the internet make a big deal that 4/3 is smaller than APS-C, but I see it as merely a 4/3 crop rather than 3/2. Which is a confusing way to say that the cameras are good. The lenses are good, too.

$1600 CAD m4/3 kit?

IMO:

The E-M1 adds PDAF to the E-M5, but other than that you can probably just use the E-M5 if you already know you like it.

Panasonic cameras take much better videos than Olympus. The GH3 is nice, overall, but lacks 5-axis IBIS and has a weird viewfinder that I don't like. The GH4 does 4K, but it costs a lot more. You can get an LX7 for $399 here in the states:
Panasonic Lumix DMC GX7 16 0 MP Mirrorless Digital Camera Body Black | eBay

Each of the GH3, GH4, and LX7 have a sensor similar to the E-M5, but also lack IBIS.

As always, the Olympus 45mm is perhaps the finest lens I've ever shot. Add a Panasonic 20/1.7 and call it a day. Get a used E-M5 or that GX7 and you'll have $800 leftover to buy a guitar or something.

Manufacturers can't just make a lens and hope it sells.

Sigma's lenses don't offer anything to a µ4/3 user. 19/2.8??? Not when there are great 14/2.5, 15/1.7, 17/1.8, and 20/1.7 options. 30/2.8? Not when there is the 42.5/1.4, 45/1.8, and 25/1.4. 60/2.8? Not when there is already a 60/2.8, as well 75/1.8. Also, all of these lenses are bigger than necessary because they cover APS-C.

Sigma's µ4/3 products don't sell well because they didn't make a single interesting µ4/3 lens.

I'd buy it and sell-off what you don't need.

Approximate resale values:
gh2; $380
14-140; $300
100-300; $400
14 2.5; $160
20 1.7; $240
oly: 45 1.8; $230
Total = $1710

Subtract 10% for paypal and shipping and you are left with $1687, which puts $687 in your pocket today.

From a purely economic point of view, you should buy the kit. However, this isn't a "nice" thing to do for a variety of reasons, for example you are acting as a middle man to take profit from the seller and charge more to the buyer without really adding value. You can decide if that means anything to you.

But you might find that you like the µ43 system. The GH2 is a great video camera. If you don't take video, then sell the GH2 and get something with a modern sensor, such as E-PM2, E-PL5, E-PL7, E-M5, E-M10, E-M1, E-P5, GH3, GH4, GX-7, GM1, or the like. Any modern sensor will give you nearly-APS-C quality, IMO.

A lot of people make a big deal comparing 4/3 to APS-C, but I think of it more as a change in aspect ratio. APS-C is wider, but 4/3 is pretty much a 4:3 cutout of the APS-C 3:2. See this picture to illustrate the difference: http://www2.gol.com/users/cjeastwd/temp/apsVS43rds.gif

I quite often prefer 4:3 anyway, so when you crop APS-C you end up with nearly 4/3. The sides don't matter much to me. I personally find that the difference in headroom compared to APS-C isn't that big. There is a difference, but it isn't an obstacle in most cases. The formats are very similar.

Use the O45/1.8 and you'll get better DOF control than most lenses can provide on APS-C. Plus the O45 costs $230, peanuts compared to equivalent lenses. The O45 also focuses extremely quickly, 99% accurately, and has very high IQ. Throw in the 20/1.7 and you have a competent system that costs very little.

Other systems can offer more, but nothing comes close for value. And the "more" you get with other systems tends to be fractionally better with significant tradeoffs in price, weight, size, and loss of focus accuracy.

So I'd suggest you buy it, keep the O45, keep the P20, sell off the rest, and buy a more modern sensor. An E-M5 can be bought for $400 lightly used and is a crazy bargain with good EVF, extremely good 5-Axis IBIS, WR, fast AF, very good sensitivity, etc. etc.
