Please correct falling lines they are always so annoying and they are so easily corrected.
I had done that but must have gone back to an earlier version and my brain just didn't notice at it knew I'd already done it. :-D
if you move the highlight slider all the way to the left the bright illuminated windows and the big clock will have less glare and you will recover some detail.
I did play with the Highlights but I don't think I've ever gone all the way left so I'll give it a try, thanks.
Next time try to capture this shot during the blue hour for some stunning sky.
I did but my brother in law was driving so I missed it. It was just as slow going home again. :-( lol

Hi Charlie. Sorry about this mate but for me it doesn't work at all. The rocks aren't sharp enough and the water isn't milky enough. I see it's a 30s exposure but I think it needs a lot more, which can be a problem if you aren't using a timer remote. I think you got caught between clear water and milky water, and got neither. Also, I think you could have cut out the trees and just had the water and the rocks or gone higher and had more of the trees in the shot.

Hi All
It's been a while since I've been here and I'd forgotten how good it was. I must try harder in future. :)
I'm showing 3 images as they were all taken the same evening and have had very similar pp in LR and PS. I've been playing for a week now and I think I have finally got the best from each shot. I have also included links to full size Flickr images.
The first image, The Invisible Bus, was taken on Westminster Bridge and is the best of a bad bunch. Crowds and traffic didn't really work that evening.
The second image, The City, was taken from the South Bank.
The third image, The Millennium Bridge, was the one I wanted and I originally intended to use my Sigma 10-20 lens but decided against it.
PP includes a crop to 20 x 10 with a border and drop shadow. All images had a slight exposure adjustment and also Highlights, Shadows and Clarity adjustments depending on need.
Be as critical as you like as this is the first time I have taken any images like this and the pp gave me so many options to consider that I got a headache. :lol:

I know it's not proper critique but I would love it if everyone who looks said at least one thing, like "To dark", "To light", "Just right" or even "It's blurred"'

Roland, you're right it is overcooked but I thought it worked this time. HDR really is a love/hate technique and I could probably change it a number of times and get different people liking each version. There have been some great comments about this shot though and I apprecite them all.

I see what you are saying CD I would normally adhere to the Rule of Thirds. This time however all three elements were important so I didn't. The sea, the sky and the pier (not Torquay in the background) were equally important so I gave them equal prominence, though you might not think so with the pier :-)

John, I did think of a mono version but I liked that sliver of colour across the image.
Photomatix can do a single shot HDR but I find three shots works better.

I wanted to get a 3 shot HDR image along the beach to the pier. But, because of the movement I decided it would be better to take 1 shot and play on the laptop. The original image used the ISO listed and I then created two more images in Lightroom, one at -2 stops and one at +2 stops. I then put the 3 images through Photomatix Pro to get the final image. Normally I don't go the Painterly route preferring a more natural look but I thought it worked for this image.
I know HDR is very much a Marmite style but I would appreciate your thoughts and critique.

All taken with my K5 and SMC PENTAX-DA 18-135mm F3.5-5.6 ED AL[IF] DC WR.
ISO 200 and Shutter 6 sec or 2.5 sec. A few have had a slight crop to get rid of empty sky, and all have had levels adjustments in PS to darken the sky. Other than that it's SooC.

I hope you don't mind but I'm going with my last 2 items as they're going to be working together. They are my new K5 and it's new friend the SMC Pentax-DA 18-135mm F3.5-5.6 ED AL [IF] DC WR. These 2 are taking the place of my K-r and the 18-55 and 50-200 kit lenses. I'll be able to go on holiday or even just a day out with just 1 lens now. I've still got my other lenses for special occasions but these 2 are now married to each other.

Bruce & K-9 The bottom image is not a crop, it's the original straight from the camera. That's as close as I could get with my 70-300 lens. I have many other shots that show more sky and smoke.

I've looked at all of your suggestions and decided to keep what I have. Enlarging the frame with more front and back makes the planes to small for me. I have decided to give the plane colour a little boost though.

If you're not worried about video then the K5 is a great camera and can be picked up fairly cheaply these days.

Thanks for the comments, it's appreciated. UV I have experimented and the top image is what I came up with, but as I said it's niggling me. Do I add more at the front, or as you say, add more at the back? Or what I was after, a nice close up? I just don't know at the moment.

Hi All
I visited my first airshow this past weekend and have 100's of images to go through. This one is niggling me though. It's had a big crop and I'm wondering if there should be more space in front of the planes. You all know the old saying that things should look or in this case fly into the frame. The original is attached below. You'll see there is plenty of room to fly into, and how much I've cropped.

The 1st Torbay Airshow started yesterday, the first airshow I've ever been to. I got out the longest lens I have, a Tamron 70-300 and went on a very steep learning curve. I've got about 1600 shots to go through so I may be some time. Here's the first five.
