I find that working in Av mode to be really helpful for shooting on the go. I'll try and keep the ISO low, but if I see the shutter speed start to drop to much I might bump it up to fix that.
Anyone have any preference on metering mode for this type of shooting?

The Ithaca/Finger Lakes region is beautiful, in the past year I've been there twice myself. Great for hiking/outdoors stuff, and taking a long drive around the lakes, visiting the wineries along the way. The Cornell campus is great as well. APEHAUS goes to Ithaca |

A few shots from this weekends day of music. Full set can be seen here: Make Music Pasadena 2008 Photo Set

Dengue Fever
I think all these were shot with my Sigma 70-300mm and cleaned up a bit in Adobe Camera Raw.

Sounds like the same one I have, that thing is unstable as all hell at 300mm.

Thanks, Glen. Though now I'm puzzled why the Ilford film came out fine, yet the Kodak stuff is messed up... the only difference is 36 vs. 24 exposures...

Yeah, I paid $50 for the body AND a SMC-A 50mm f/2.0 lens off of eBay.

Okay, tired another roll of t-max 400, SAME THING! At frame 17, the lines occur, though oddly enough, these seem closer together. I showed my photo instructor and he checked out the camera. He suggested that maybe it was some sort of light leak, and not something physically damaging the film. He gave me a roll of Ilford HP5 (24-exp) to try out. Not one single line... it came out perfectly. So I'm back to being baffled. Temporary solution: shoot to frame 16 on the t-max 400.
Maybe I just need another camera. :o

It's scratched when it comes out of the camera, so it happens, I think, during the rewinding process.

Yes, I had mentioned that the scratch begins towards the middle/end of the roll. In the 36 exposure roll I developed, it started around frame 17, all the way to 36.
I did swab all the surfaces where the film might pass with a cotton swab and I loaded a new roll of T-Max. I'll develop it tomorrow and see if anything comes up. Also, when it's rewinding, I'm going to make sure and not apply any additional pressure to the back of the camera (ie, my normal death grip).

Great idea! :)
What baffles me is how it occurs on the emulsion side, and why only towards the end of the roll.

The line is on the emulsion side. And to double check that is was the camera, and not processing, I blew through a roll, and rewound it, took it out of the canister and sure enough, there it was, very faintly. On my contact sheet I did last week, on a 36 exposure roll, it shows up around #17 all the way through #36.
This sucks.
I've attached an image I shot last year, and you can clearly see where the line is, and it looks like that little roller thingy on the far right side of the camera.

Thanks for the suggestions!

I thought that at first, but last night I processed a roll myself (first time, hooray!) and sure enough, there it was.

It appears that my ZX-M is scratching my film, and I'm not sure how it's doing it. What is happening (and see attached image) is that a thin horizontal scratch is occurring across the negative, more so pronounced towards (ie, frame 36) the end of the roll rather than the beginning (ie, frame 1). It's more noticeable on certain prints, given the final color of the image, but for the more part it is very noticeable on the negative itself.
Any ideas on what could be causing this? The blue line on the image I attached represents the approximate location of the scratch.
Thanks.

I opened it in Adobe Camera Raw, made some adjustments to the Exposure (from 0.00 to -1.20), Shadows (from 5 to 12), and Contrast (from +25 to 0).
That's about it.
Here's the image, from RAW to JPEG, no changes made: Here's a link for the full-size image, and yes, there is some noise ;)

Okay I'm tempted to post the 2400x3600 image, and while it's not the sharpest of images, I think I wouldn't have done any better with a tripod, especially since focusing with almost no light is a complete pain.

This isn't so much a time I wish I had a camera, but more of a time I wish I had not been so timid to take a picture. I was at Union Station, in Los Angeles. There was this gal in a total 40's dress, even had the leopard pattern suitcase, waiting for a train. Her plus the Art Deco/Modernist architecture looked awesome. I didn't have the guys to ask her if I could take her picture. :o
I still regret that.

Epson's 'Ultra Premium Photo Paper Luster' is really, really nice. I like better than their premium glossy paper. I think I got a pack of 50 for $30 on Amazon.

Meditation (originally called 'Illumination' on my Flickr page) started off as a disaster (see below). It took some work in Photoshop to get it to where it's at now.
