New SONNETAR Lens in Q mount

Hi guys, I posted my Sonnetar 25mm f/1.1 Q-mount lens on eBay. Search for it. My lens is mint and comes with its original box and a free fully-working Pentax Q. :D

I'm just downsizing my camera collection (selling a lot of Sony E-mount gear and miscellany.) I am starting bidding for a little less than what I paid for it in 2012--I'll keep the lens if I don't get any bids.

Meh review...

Video mode hard to start? How about my NEX-7 which is too EASY to take video? (Thankfully Sony finally put out a firmware patch to allow disabling of the button. Would rather be able to re-assign the button, but wtf.)

How's it compare to the Q?
How's the image stabilization with third-party lenses?
How's the focus-peaking?
How's the sensor read speed (do stills suffer the jellos when using the "digitial shutter" like they do on the Q?)

Search the net for "Bokemorphic", you should try non-round apertures (changes the shape of the bokeh.)

Fun! Maybe I'll have to pick up some toy lenses for cheap off ePay.

Pentax Q10 focus peaking and impressions

Very excited by the Q10--focus peaking and image stabilization. Even if the sensor has the same quality, those two features make it a worthwhile upgrade. (Would kill for a Q->Minolta/Sony adapter with a shutter! Wonder how difficult it will be for third-parties to trigger a shutter; is it a simple electrical circuit or...)

For the Q, I cannot recommend the Hoodman Hoodloupe enough. I really find it changes the shooting experience, particularly telephoto shooting. I do feel they are way overpriced at retail but keep your eyes out for used ones (I bought mine on ePay for about half what it would have cost new.) Only complaint is it would be nice to have a hoodloupe that mechanically latched to the body; but generally using the bands keeps it on just fine.

anyone try a reflex C-mount lens?

Very cool! So sounds like the reflex optics are designed to have the viewfinder to the side of the lens, which doesn't clear the Q's body. Would be fun to try out but not for what these lenses usually go for on ePay.

Man, that flickr user sure has a collecting bug!

I have seen a couple listings recently on eBay for C-mount lenses such as this one that has a reflex prism and a viewfinder. This seems like it'd be a very interesting way to shoot with a Pentax Q; wondering if it would clear the top of the camera (and what would be really cool is a bracket that mounts on the flash shoe!)

CS -> Q mount adapter?

So I ended up buying some CS lenses because of an idiot eBay seller (yeah I'm sure I'm not the first) but I actually am wondering, does anyone make a CS adapter for the Q? All I seem to find is adapters to mount a C lens to a CS camera.

If I didn't have a day job, maybe I'd start a kickstarter for one.

Q vs Q10 - one step sideways and one step backwards?

Works great for Pentax lenses, which I own none (although the 560mm is almost tempting, if I could use it on my NEX-7.) How about Leica M, C, or Sony Alpha (or for that matter, NEX, m43, etc would be bonuses.)

Some C-mount questions

I've been using an adapter without a set screw...I'd love to hear what tips folks have on what C mount adapters have set screws that work well, and how to set the lens so that it focuses at infinity.

I've been playing with a couple C-mount lenses and have another on the way. They're great fun old-school lenses with mediocre optics that make for some creative photography...I hope it's not a C-S mount lens, it's a Fujinon 25-350mm f/3.5 lens (you can find more by searching the net for "C14X25B-SNDS4C"). I bought mine with the usual motorized housing that I'm hoping I can strip off the lens (and/or drive it from an Arduino board setup) as I've seen this lens without the housing for 2x the cost on ePay.

I've been having a blast taking photos with a 300mm lens and a Hoodloupe on my Q; but biggest problem is the jello effect of the sensor scan (since there's no mechanical shutter) and the higher ISOs suffer from high noise. Wondering how the Q10's sensor is "improved" (hopefully more sensitive AND faster read time for reduced jello.) I'd love an in-body mechanical shutter but I understand that it would be difficult with the super-shallow flange distance. (Although third-party adapters with mechanical shutter [and a way to fool the camera into turning on image stabilization with third-party lenses] would be really keen too.)

Unsinkable II - the Q has 1/8000 shutter speed with the electronic shutter...But it really suffers from jello.

You get what you pay for, from my amazon review:

The adapter, like a lot of Fotodiox adapters, is a bit loose and the Sony-mount lens jiggles a tiny bit. But for the price it works ok.

Also note that the aperture control pin might need to be adjusted or it might cause damage to your lens. I attached mine to a Rokinon Sony-mount lens (purely manual lens, no in-camera aperture control.) The aperture control pin gouged into the lens, luckily it's just cosmetic. In order to prevent the adapter from damaging my more expensive Sony lenses I took the adapter apart (requires a good set of jeweler's screwdrivers) and adjusted the aperture control pin. Now works great with my 70-300mm lens and controls the aperture just fine and doesn't cause issue with the Rokinon lens.

Also note that if you use the adapter's tripod mount the screw may interfere with the aperture control ring. (Which I see as a benefit as the ring is not dampened and is very easy to turn.)

...but I think I'll try the $23 Fotodiox adapter first. (I've had mixed experiences with Fotodiox adapters, but at least they give me a chance to try things out and if it works ok I'll spring for a higher-quality adapter.)

New to Q, used to have Optio P&S cameras before moving to m43 and NEX-7.

I'm considering buying a Minolta AF (for my Sony alpha lenses) adapter for my new Q and I'm wondering if it's worth the ~$300 it'll cost. Particularly do they come with apertures or aperture controls for lenses without manual aperture control?

It would be a hoot to use my Sony 70-400mm lens with my Q's 5.5 crop factor...(maybe I'll actually use a tripod for once. ;) But even the Rokinon 85mm f/1.8 I have on the way would be a good telephoto lens for this camera.

FYI I'm having a blast with the 8.5mm prime and I really bought the camera just to use with the Sonnetar lens (I'm a low-light junkie!) Tricky to use manual lens but I like the challenge. Just wish I had anti-shake with that lens. :^|

But my Voigtlander Nokton 35mm "classic" would be fun on this body too.
