Those Sony bodies are cool, they've got it figured out with the exposure. My mate has an A6000 and I like how you can see the actual exposure you are getting through the LCD and EVF. Agree with you too on the Flash metering.

I like your Flickr - by the way

Wouldn't it be awesome though, when using old Legacy/non body controlled Aperture lenses, if we could:

1. Select the Aperture on our Manual lenses
2. Select the Shutter Speed we want

And just let the camera worry about the ISO. When we shot with film it was the ISO film roll we loaded that limited us, so we had to select the appropriate shutter and aperture to suit our roll. But with the digital bodies they are so good now ISO should no longer be limiting us.

Would be interesting to hear others thoughts on this.

(TAv mode that worked with Old Manual/Legacy non body controlled Aperture lenses)

I understand what you are saying - but if you think about it, do you reckon it really needs to have the the Aperture dialed in through the body? Like why can't it just read the amount of light coming in through the lens like it does in Av mode (we already know this works with our old maunal lenses stepped down). And then combine that reading with the Shutter Speed we select - to work out the ISO for correct exposure.

just thinkin out loud...

I hope Pentax is listening ;-)

K5 compared to Canon 5D for legacy glass

I might be a bit late on this post but here it goes. I shoot both Canon 6D (&550d) and Pentax K-5. They are all awesome Cameras.

The TAV mode is very nice, I do use this most of the time - you have creative control of your Shutter Speed and Aperture and the computer can worry about the ISO. You can also dial in exposure compensation. Now I could be wrong here - unless I've missed something on my K-5, this TAv mode only works with modern lenses (maybe A lenses as well - I don't own any of these). I cannot get TAv to work with my M, K or M42 mount lenses. With Manual Lenses mounted, selecting any of the program modes automatically changes the setting to Av.

You would prolly know though Canon is 1 up on Pentax with this. Using Manual lenses with Canon bodies in "Tv" or shutter priority mode and setting the ISO to Auto gives you "TAv" mode because you set the Aperture manually on the lens - it has worked like this for years. ISO adjusts automatically and You use the back wheel to adjust you exposure compensation.

I wish the new Pentax bodies will allow TAv with manual lenses - I'm pretty sure this is just a firmware thing.

It would be really nice if Pentax could give us TAv mode with Manual Lenses. My Canon bodies can do this :-(

TAV Mode Query

Hi Guys, I have a separate query with TAv mode. I shoot with this mode most of the time. Just wondering if there is a way to use this mode with Manual Lenses. My K-5 Automatically switches to Av mode whenever I mount my Manual Lenses. It would be nice if we could select the F-stop using our lens Aperture ring and just have the Camera work out the ISO for us. My Canon bodies work really well like this - is there a setting I have missed on my K-5 for manual lenses?

Hey thanks guys - I just learnt something new here. My lens which I purchased used from B&H appears to have been provided with a different hood. The Hood I have is for the FA 43mm f/1.9 lens. Looking on the RICOH site the part No. for DA 70 hood is in fact: MH-RF 49

MH-RF 49mm Silver Lens Hood for HD DA 70mm F2.4 - RICOH IMAGING UK LTD.

It looks like I might getting myself a new hood (& 43mm pinch cap). Sorry for the mis-information earlier.

I have been waiting a while for the 560. I agree with Gary - if it's in that $7000 price range I will be buying the Sigma.
Come on Pentax give us a reasonable pricing.
