I wish. I have a great Sigma Art 24/1.4 that I would love to use on my K-1. That will not be possible unless Sigma offers this lens in Pentax KA mount. IF/ when this lens is made available in Pentax mount, I will gladly pay the $250 or so fee to have the mount changed by Sigma.

I have no idea. I do know one of the major knocks against the K-1 I have heard from non-Pentax users is the lack of super high resolving, fast primes. Sigma seems to have that covered with the Art line. Pentax really offers nothing at 1.4. I do suspect we might eventually see Pentax branded versions of the newer Tamron primes, though they are not 1.4's like the Art line. As good as the FA Limited's are, they do show their age with regard to CA, aberrations and sharpness until stopped down a bit - and, of course, they are not 1.4's nor do they have internal, modern AF.

In some cases they do. I know a few folks who have considered buying the K-1 because Sigma offers the Art 35/1.4 in Pentax mount. There is not a great Pentax offering in a 35/1.4 and if that is ones main focal length of choice, the availability of the Sigma option most certainly could make Pentax some $$ via the sell of a K-1 (and possibly other Pentax lenses and future bodies down the road thereafter).

If it's true, it might be related to supply/ parts shortages due to the recent Kumomoto earthquake. Nikon, Fuji and Sony are projecting supply shortages already for that reason.

I received my K-1 in a battered box that looked like it had been drop kicked by UPS all the way to my doorstep. The first thing I did was attach a lens and shockingly found that the finder was dark and blurry regardless of the diopter setting. For about five minutes I panicked thinking the camera must have been damaged in shipping. Finally, I turned it on and all was well :). I imagine a number of Pentaxians will go through the same thing...

If ever that could be said about a company, it's NOT Ricoh. All one has to do is look at the user interface of the GR, Pentax 645Z/ K3 etc. and see that a photographer played a major role in the design and features.

The method should result in more actual resolution since it is capturing full color data and information for each of those 24MP's and not relying on bayer interpolation (which results in artifacts and less actual resolution). It will depend on how well it is implemented ultimately. As an example, we know the Sigma DP Merrill's (Foveon) achieve something comparable to a bayer 24-30MP sensor with 14.8MP's. If the Ricoh technique even approaches that, it should be capable of conservatively at least equaling a 36MP bayer sensor imo.

Even if it does take 1/50 sec. that would actually be alright for slow moving clouds and some other subjects which give the Olympus method issues (since it requires a full second?). 1/50 sec. is relatively fast for tripod use (and not outside of the realm of hand holdable with a wider lens) so I think the question remains and it will be interesting to see the results from actual use. It may very well be that the tripod recommendation by Ricoh is suggested simply for best results. Keep in mind that Ricoh claims the exposures to be carried out by an instant electronic shutter mode (not the mechanical shutter) and we already know how quickly the sensor is capable of moving (AA mode using Piezoelectric motion) thus your Space-Time remark is somewhat silly given the times we are talking about.

I don't think we know all of the answers yet with regard to movement (such as water, clouds, leaves, etc. with a short shutter speed) and pixel shift. It very well may be better than what the Olympus does with regard to freezing movement as it uses 4 exp vs 8 and the two examples posted by Pentax were shot at 1/4 sec. and 1/200 sec. It would seem that if an actual 1/200 sec. SS is possible using the Pixel Shift mode, movement should not be an issue. Going in the opposite direction - slower speeds- I suspect there will be artifact issues.

Continuous lighting in the studio is not going to be an option for those of us who own $1000's in strobe equipment. To go this route, one would need to invest in entirely new lighting. My comment was more of a general remark as to the possible viability of using the Pixel Shift mode out of the studio at higher shutter speeds (given that one of the test shots was taken at 1/200 sec.). If this feature does work at 1/200 sec. it's going to be interesting to compare results on and off a tripod.

It's notable that the first shot on the Pentax sample page that uses Pixel Shift was taken at 1/200 sec. I'm not sure what to make of that as it's clearly fast enough to have been taken hand held. Perhaps the tripod stipulation by Pentax is just a general recommendation for best results but I guess we'll just have to wait and see.

It has been previously suggested that the original K3 has the technology through SR to allow for the full color pixel-shift capability but what about the actual sensor and the role it might play? For instance, Olympus uses a fully electronic shutter to achieve it's 8 exp. Hi Res mode. Even with "just" 4 exposures offset by one pixel, it would seem as though that degree of accuracy would require no shutter movement/vibration at all (which would require a fully electronic shutter). I wonder if the new K-3 II will have a sensor that has full electronic shutter capability.

The new panning control of the SR feature almost certainly makes use of the built in compass to know which direction the camera is panning. The original K3 does not have a compass.
From the Adorama article:
"Additionally, the new panning detection feature on the K-3 II detects the moving direction of the camera and controls the SR unit."

Great to hear about the faster processor. One major aggravation with the K5 is the delay in LV when manual focusing. This delay makes it very difficult to accurately manual focus in LV with the K5. Has this been addressed with the K3 - if one uses manual focus in LV, is there instant response/update to focus on the LCD screen or is there still a delay?
