Thanks!
May I ask how did you infinity calibration test. I am wondering about distance, or did you use multiple distances. Or is it better to do with comparing af with live view af? My lens is now good to 2 meters, but infinity focus is not so good.
I know that it's hard to focus infinity right at f1.8 for lens, but I have taken great and sharp infinity photos with live view. I just want to do same via view finder.

Hi Digitalis.
I have now calibrated three first distance with good results. What distance did you use for last point? Marking is near 2m, but how it will work to 10 or 50 meters?

Hi!
I had similar behavior two days ago. Single shot with Sigma 18-35 1.8 and 1.11 FW. Like John told, mirror flapped 4 or 5 times before camera rebooted. Also my frame was lost. It didn't reset all settings. I think it went back to settings that were at start when I switch power on. I'm not sure of that.
Before FW 1.11 I have had this issue two times. I have reported those here. Now I'm wondering sending camera to service or not. What do you guys recommend to do? It is under warranty.

Great advices. We were in Iceland this summer, eight days round island. We drove about 2500 kilometers. Here are my shots. Iceland 2014 - samsshots
I also think your definites are excellent, because of weather in Iceland. I would also take 43 Ltd or 35 Ltd with me. Both are good for panoramas. My set was K-3, Samyang 14mm, FA31, DA70, DFA100 WR, Tamron 70-200 and tripod of course. Don't forget ND filters. I did not use DFA100 WR macro except rainy days. I did mostly landscape shots. Tamron was very useful, so you'll be happy with your DA* 60-250! Don't forget warm clothes.
Reykjavik is nice little city, but if you are landscape shooter, half day is enough there. Road 1 is very beautiful. There is waterfalls all around, just pick which you want. Golden circle is very crowded, you should drive further quickly. I also liked Myvatn area except mosquitos. One of my favorite was Jökulsarlon area in southeast of Iceland.

Here are few shots from my latest trip. Iceland was very unique, different landscapes than here in Finland. We took car for one week and drove round via Road 1.
I love my K-3. It has had mirror flopping four times under seven months, but I get great shots with it.

I think that's correct. But if you use green hexagon indicator to help focus correct, then AF fine tuning does have an impact on results. Or am I wrong?

Sex weeks ago: It was about -18C. I had two batteries with me, one Pentax and one Hähnel. I had taken pictures one hour when it first happens. First battery, Hähnel, was not even half way down when shutter kept firing until I opened battery compartment. It did that three times when repeated. Then I switched battery to Pentax, and same result. All the time I used AV-mode, AF with single spot and single shot. Lenses were DA70 and Samyang 14mm.
Then I put camera under my jacket for 10 minutes. I allowed me to take pictures for one minute before it repeated to act like machine gun.
K5 never did that. My K3 is firmware 1.01. That was first time though I was taken pictures at cold temperature before.
Two weeks ago (and firmware 1.02): It was about -3C. I had fully charged battery (Hähnel) in. About 30 frames ok, but then it did it. Now shutter kept firing but only about four seconds when it stopped itself when I turn camera off. After that, no problem at all. Lens was Samyang 14mm.
Serial number 4828573. Purchase date 26.11.2013.
Tomorrow morning I'll test fully charged battery (both Pentax and Hähnel). Let's see what happens.

I have owned both. I bought 15mm limited first and it was quite good. Size, filter use, starburst and center sharpness were the positive things for me. The biggest negative thing was sharpness in edges and corners (i think some were due to field curvature), why I sold it and bought Samyang 14mm.
Samyang (first copy) was not sharp on the left side, so I got new one. This one is way better than first one. I calibrated the focus ring and now focusing is easy. I think that Samyang is sharper and have same contrast and color than da15 limited. Only the extreme corner and extreme edge is soft in certain circumstance. Only negative thing is lack of filter use (there is way to do it, but it's not easy or cheap).
If you want to see samples with Samyang 14mm + K5 (there are also other photos taken with another lens but you'll notice it): Hikes and trips - Vaellukset ja reissut - samsshots
It worked well with K5, now i have K3 and still good. Great lens.

Should I contact service or wait for firmware 1.02 or do some further test to find reason for that?

Thanks a lot guys!
Terrain in southern part Lofoten is really rough. There was no possibilities to step off the trail. Altitude was from sea level to 1100 meters. Very nice indeed.

Here are some 100% crops. All taken at 2 meters with center point focus. Focus at phone and bag.
1. f4 adjustment 0
2. f4 adjustment -8
3. f5.6 adjustment 0
4. f5.6 adjustment -8
What do you think?

Hey!
I have owned DA15 over one year. When my K5 came back from service three months ago, lens does not AF accurate or it does not do the same at variable apertures.
Let me explain little more. I have done some test with tripod at different apertures and at different distance. I used center point focus. Here are results.
At 1 meter, it requires AF adjustment +3 (f4 and f5.6), but it is ok at f8.
At 2 meters, f4 ok, but f5.6 and f8 needs -6/-8
At 3 meters, f4 ok, but f5.6 and f8 needs -7/-8
At 5-6 meters, f4 ok, but f5.6 and f8 needs -5/-8
At 15-20 meters, f4 ok/-3, but f5.6 and f8 needs -5
At 30-50 meters, f4 ok/-3, but f5.6 and f8 needs again -5
I was wondering is this normal behavior for wide angle lens. I usually use this lens between f5.6 and f11 (f16). Then its not problem, i can dial -5/-7 and be happy. But when I need f4, it is annoying to dial AF adjustment back. Or is it just the camera.
What do you think about?
Thanks !

Hello again! And thanks for comments.
I have done more tests and same problem is still. There is no filter attached. Problems does not dissappear completely when stopping down. I loaded more pictures if you want to check. http://samsshots.smugmug.com/photos/i-2rNPpqx/0/XL/i-2rNPpqx-XL.jpg
I know these situation are really tough for lens and I realise that you should avoid this kind of situations. And these photos are not all I have taken, there are lot of good ones of course. But I don't want to buy f/2.8 lens and use it f/5.6 or smaller aperture. Lens is sharp and good otherwise.
I just contacted seller with few photos and next week my lens is going to service. They said if they could not do anything for "color errors", they will replace that to new one. This was relief.

I was wondering is these kind of "color errors" typical for this lens or should i consider to change it. I just bought it. Is these just a problem of high contrast edges at max aperture? My Sigma 70mm 2.8 macro doesn't do this.
Few examples (test shots and so on): D FA 100mm WR - Sam
You can click photos to original size. There are four photos at the moment.
Thanks for comments.
