Good information there. I think the sound is more of a ring than a ping. You are brave pulling apart a LX.

Thanks for the information, you are obviously skilled and handy. I just don't see myself getting in over my head on something I know little about. I have three functioning S models (two in pristine condition) so there is no practical need, in particularly in the case of the K, to risk damaging the cameras. I also have five various functioning Spotmatics remaining in my collection. My non functioning cameras will perhaps one day justify repair, and find someone who knows how to do it. In the meantime I enjoy their presence as a representation of an era. Thanks again.

Excellent pictures. It seems you don't accept that you must have the latest gear in order to be able to take wonderful pictures. Good work.

Spotmatic Self-Timer Overshoot

I think you can fix that. Unscrew the retaining screw which has two holes in it. Use some pointy needle nose plyers, or a compass divider to fit in the holes. Once off, lift the lever off and see if you can put in back on in a different position to straighten it to vertical.

Wonderful collection. It helps that you are proficient at servicing them. The earlier S series are also lovely, but curtains are old, and I think hard to find. I have some SVs a mint "K" serviced by Erik, but it too has lost a curtain strap dried out fabric and glue.

There is the danger of mindsets brought up in the throwaway generation. Looking for a cheaper way to make something through the use of modern materials and technology is loaded with pitfalls. I would not exchange my 2010 Audi Quatro for the newest model for this reason. A Mercedes (or BMW) made in the eighties was longer lasting than modern versions which have constant electronic "upgrades". After 10 years all the electronics are outdated and likely to fail, and when they do, good luck finding a ten year old computer module.
My hope is that they avoid camera electronics as much as possible for this reason. There is a tactile satisfaction in relating to wheels and cogs compared to circuit boards - even my watches have gears and springs. After all, the whole point of a mechanical camera is the it is mechanical.

Yikes, I wonder if that is the least of your problems getting this into working condition. As for your question, I can only speculate, but would try the needle way first.

It brings a tear to my eye when I see photo albums in a second hand store. Happy wedding and celebrity pictures that once meant so much, finding a future no one envisioned - all coming to naught in the end.

I took this in 1961 with my Kodak viewfinder Retinette. There is no Opera House shown; that lay some twenty years in the future.

In flight, trim is used to relieve the holding pressure on the controls, so that one can remove hands or feet from the controls, and the plane will continue in the desired path. On the first generation airliners, trims were manual, usually knobs or wheels. If one had a failed engine, rudder trim was dialed in to take the pressure off the leg holding against the asymmetry. When landing, the non-flying pilot would gradually centre the trim in keeping with the reducing power on the flare..

Thanks for the advice. I have reported it to the moderator. The image was loaded as an attachment, and shows for me, but I was unable to copy it to the "Film" thread.
