Pentax DA* 11-18mm f2.8 issue, help please.

Don't know if I get you right, but this is what I did. I deleted .exiv2, exported to jpg and reimported, and the lens was unknown again. This was with Darktable 3.0, will test with 4.6 later. So I guess the answer is no.

Pentax DA* 11-18mm f2.8 issue, help please.

As Paul the Sunman already said it's not restricted to Apple. I'm running Darktable on Linux and after import the lens showed up as 'Unknown (0x08c4)'. Had to change it manually via SQL in the library.db file. So it seems to be more of a Pentax problem.

Edit: I know it won't help you, but at least for darktable users this can be fixed via a .exiv2 file in your (linux) home directory. The comes from exiv2, but in the mentioned config file I put this:

[pentax]
8 196 0 0=HD PENTAX-DA* 11-18mm F2.8 ED DC AW

After restarting darktable the import showed the correct entry for the lens.

Sorry for being slightly off-topic.

You really want to ban opinions only because you don't agree? Maybe Ogl is just disappointed, and I bet there are lot's of users here that feel the same way. For me it's not quite easy to imagine who should by that camera. And, there is a subtle difference between negativity and skepticism.

Yes, for me too, even though it could mean we won't see a K-1 II /K-3 II successor this year. Thanks a lot for sharing!

Seems like they treat their websites al little bit "stiefmütterlich". For example on the K-1-Lab special site, which I find quite good, there's no entry for the HD DA F* 50mm 1.4, thought it's meant to be a flagship lense.

No offence meant, but now you really start exaggerating! Who exactly is "we"? Defined by whom? Keep heads down, feel inferior (as feeling superior needs the other to feel inferior) ? Please speak for yourself only. And just for the record and for not being accused of bashing: I use Pentax for almost 40 years, don't have a plan to jump ship and even want to buy the k-1 II (or it's successor) despite whatever DPR says or does. Let's go back to talk about photography with pentax instead of playing the downtrotten soul.

Thank You Ash, not even this expensive (~60€ at amazon). Do you know if it's thin enough to use at the wide range of the lens?

No, there were no other filters installed besides the one from haida. I believe You are right, reflections on the back are the problem. I'll test that again tomorrow with a towel to seal the gap.

Thanks a lot for the link, will read it definitely! I actually don't want to buy too much filters, but if it's to awkward to seal the space every time I'll think about buying Haida Pro 100, because the problem of light leaks seems to be much better solved there.

Okay, so You all tend to say it's the filter and not the lens? That's what I thought, and I guess that ash is right to say that light leaks are the reason for this
Well, maybe I have to rethink my "filter strategy" and by, only for the 12-24, a threaded one.
Thx everybody!

Hm, strange, I can see the pictures in any of my browser. Here are the links:

https://drive.google.com/open?id=16DPB350YWvm9K2ARnLNU2Ltr3PhwVCA2

and

https://drive.google.com/open?id=1WMot0M06LTnHLqrBGK8lVI3f6X28Ah8S.

Can you see them now?

I decided to use filter adapters for 2 reasons: I only have to buy the adapters and not the whole filter and I can use them together with gradient filters if necessary. I always thought that HAIDA filters are quite high quality. Maybe the distance between filter adapter and lens is to wide so light gets in from behind ?

Hi krazny,

sorry, but I cant resolve the link you posted. Well, I heard quite the opposite, Haida producing quite good filters (at least nowadays). I have some threaded versions that I use with the 16-45mm and they produce pictures that are great.

Dear forum members,

I'd like to take landscape shots with the DA 12-24mm and ND filters. For this I bought Haida ND1000 Square Optical Glass Neutral Density Filter 83mm x 95mm for Cokin P ND3.0 ND (this one). Sometimes results are how I expected them, but a lot of times it produces pictures like these (converted as is from raw):

another one:

Any thoughts on this? Is the filter to small for the lens? Which filter would you recommend ? Lee-filters are way to expensive for me, but maybe I should switch to haidas pro 100 series?
I'd love to see pictures with the 12-24 and haidas 1000x ND filter.

Kind regards,

Ralf

I voted Darktable because I like it's workflow more and find the organization of it's modules more intuitive and easier to use. It's easier to organize my collections with darktable, whereas RawTherapee offers no such thing. But, as others already stated, I'd like to see some module for processing pixel shifted raws like RawTherapee does. Another benefit for me is that you can extend darktable quite easily via lua-scripts.

Really greate article! I nearly have got the same setup: rapid photo downloader, darktable, rawtherapee and gimp and don't regret the move away from adobe. Especially darktable (even more in the upcoming version 2.6) and gimp 2.10 are more than I need.

There's one review on the pentaxian forum as well, but it's in german. You have to be registered to see the pictures though: https://www.pentaxians.de/40456504nx51499/lens-clubs-f46/ricoh-xr-rikenon-fi...ub-t23186.html Maybe that helps.

Wish darktable's developers would be open to this as well ;) But great that rawtherapee will support it. PDCU looks a little bit out-dated by now, to say the least.

Hi Pewter,

it was joergens.mi who said that tasks must be implemented in firmware, not me :-) But of cause this is true, even if it depends on the degree this has to be done. Concerning focusstacking it would also be possible to let the firmware only do the collection of images You would like to send to your app and let then do the rest by your app.

Not quite sure if I understand you. The OP said that functionality would be implemented in Your smartphone's app and NOT in Your camera. Since you're free to use it and since you can turn off WIFI why would You bother? Concerning the api/focusstacking I think it would be possible to let the camera do the shooting and process the pictures on Your smartphone.
