When I look at the histogram of an image taken with my new K5II there are spikes on the DNG version's histogram but not on the JPG (**** quality) version's histograms. On my 200D this is not the case - neither have the spikes. Does anyone have an explanation?

I don't have a K-5II yet (it'll be my Spring indulgence) but still use my wonderful old K200D, which of course has the Green button
I leave it on Sv most of the time but every now and then I look at the manual to remind myself of what the Green mode is - then never use it.
It is odd how one's habits change. When I was using my MZ-5N film camera I nearly always used it in complete manual mode and shunned the automatic features that attracted me to the camera. Now I use manual mode only when in difficult lighting scenes or other special circumstances.
I do not think I would ever use Auto/Green with a K-5 - when the camera is so versatile.

I have a Pentax 35-80mm (autofocus) lens from my last Pentax 35mm film DSLR.
I thought it should be equivalent to, or perform as a 1.5X focal length lens on my 200D, but it does not seem to do so.
I am not sure why this is the case. For instance if I use the 35mm position (so 35 X 1.5 = ~52mm) on the lens, photos are not the same as on my kit lens at 55mm. Not that this really matters but I was surprised.

I have only recently become aware of this site and am glad to join.
I got my first Pentax (Asahi Pentax S1a) in the 60s and have 4 film Pentax SLRs from following decades and other Pentax cameras.
I use a 200D but would like to upgrade - but ask myself why.
