jford -
hmmm... you are right, for the the refractive behavior, how can I ensure if it's ok?
anyway, here is what I did: i used it on right part of the broken glass and use the hydrogen peroxide on the left.
by turning the glasses in different angles, the glass showed different reflection colors on its surface and I couldn't tell differences.
I thought it's good enough to tell if the coating is damaged or not. no?
and here is another interesting link: Fixing a SAMYANG 500mm f8 mirror lens with plenty of fungus
He used a hand cream to clean fungus trace. how did the hand cream work in this case?

I have a pair of broken glasses. Like many glasses, it has coating. so I tried...
50-50 Hydrogen Peroxide/Ammonia works better than hydrogen peroxide(3%). And coating is fine.
looks like with ammonia, it is easier to remove fingerprint. do some google on ammonia. looks like it is good to clean grease or oil-based stain: Home and Garden Uses for Ammonia | Reader's Digest
(no, i haven't tried it on my lens yet, as still waiting for my tools. and remember never mix ammonia with bleach)
(Hey, Ex Finn, thanks for the info. I might have it for some experiment someday)

I tried 99% isopropyl aclohol on the rear element. but fungus didn't come off (don't want to rub too hard). I haven't tried hydrogen peroxide yet -- I am waiting for my spanner wrench to disassemble lens for internal fungus.

come across a link about fixing scratched lenses: How to Fix a Scratch on a Camera Lens | eHow.com
where it says using "Take a thin permanent marker and carefully fill in the scratch with ink."
then "Immediately wipe off any excess ink with a lens cloth."
really!?
Could anyone share your experiences on fixing scratched lenses?
thanks

ok. i guess here is the answer: The Methods - Cleaning Digital Cameras - D-SLR Sensor Cleaning.
looks like it is methanol, at least most of part in Eclipse.
by using HEET, actually wont' save lots money, as cleaning lens won't use much Eclipse. but just for my curiosity, is Eclipse == HEET? and had anyone actually tried it?

Good day,
search cleaning solution for lens online. someone suggested wood alcohol or Methanol. some said actually Eclipse solution is methanol. Is it ture?
Then I searched where to get methanol. it turns out lots links are related to some kind of fuel for race cars
This link says also it is what HEET is Methanol - Where to Buy
quote "You can buy 99.9% methanol anywhere HEET fuel line anti-freeze is sold. Its more expensive than bulk, but its always there in a pinch if you need it. "
it is much much cheaper than Eclipse. I probably can get it from AutoZone :)
Had anyone tried HEET on lens?
Thanks,
chalupa

Good day
Found an old manual lens had some fungus....:( so i did some research about lens disassemble etc...
Now I have a question about what to use to clean fungus... there is a link: Ron Herron's "Mamiya 35mm Cameras" Fungus How-To where it suggested 50-50 of "Hydrogen Peroxide and Household Ammonia."
Had anyone tried this formula? Is it safe to lens coating?
And since I am going to disassemble, I probably would lubricate some parts. Any advise about what kind of oil or lubricants to use?
Thanks,
chalupa
