Looks like another great Pentax DSLR. However, I really want a digital Spotmatic or K1000 in the spirit of Leica's digital M cameras. Yes delusional, but
are there not others amongst us having the same retro dream ? 💭 📷

They were Ilford cassettes because you couldn't open the Kodak ones without destroying them. HP400 was a worthy Ilford substitute for Tri-X

K1 Mode Dial Failure

Here's a bit of follow up on my original post about the failed mode dial on my K1. It had been bought as a 'like new' item from The Camera Exchange. They have been the good part of this experience, taking the camera back and even paying my return postage from Canada. :) They are keeping my original payment as part payment on a new K1 which should be available in October. .....October? The apparent lack of availability suggests that there is a BIG problem that is in the process of getting a 'fix'. This is a huge stumble for Pentax. It's been, not only committed Pentax users like us, but the larger photographic community that's waited to see a FF Pentax offering. Everyone's waited, what, a decade and a half? As said earlier in this thread by another member, this is the first time I've been letdown by a Pentax product. Having had it in hand shooting, the K1 is a terrific camera design. However, the follow through to reliable final product seems to be rubbish. Here's keeping my fingers crossed that October will see a 'fixed' K1 built to the usual Pentax quality standard.

K1 Mode Dial Failure

OK, here's another hand up. Yesterday, my K1 decided it's now a Manual mode only camera, after approx. 700 exposures. Mind you, a very nice needle-match body but not what I paid for. I turned it on and with the second exposure, having been moved from 'Av' to 'M' it went 'manual for ever'... no matter what the mode dial was set to. I've had problem Pentax lenses, but this is my only DSLR problem body since my first, an *istD. I am not happy! :hmm:

Be easy on the the guy.
After all, he is not, strictly speaking, from Canada.
He's from Toronto, Canada's 'most important' city. ;)

Good guess...equivalent of a 64mm on a 35mm camera if you are using a 645D or Z.

Topcon SLR

I bought my first TOPCON, the second tier RE2, in 1969 when I was in art school. A couple of years later, it was stolen and I replaced it another RE2, this time with the f1.4 58mm About 1974, I purchased a Super D like yours. Don't sell it! You have one of the finest Japanese 35mm SLRs ever made and a piece of photographic history.

TOPCON was the first SLR to have TTL metering and, unlike later Pentax and Nikon metering systems, it was full aperture and read illumination from the mirror. Thus, the finder image did not dim as the camera was stopped down and, as the ad below shows, you always had a meter, no matter what finder was attached.

Though the RE2 is a lower line model, it has certain advantages over the Super D While it lacks a mirror lock-up and removable prism, it has a Copal, vertically traveling shutter that is quieter and smoother than the Super D's horizontal cloth one as well as providing a higher flash sync. speed of 1/125th sec.
What a find. You are a lucky guy!!! :)
