I took various shots, highlighting different aspects of the eclipse, but this one illustrating the solar flares and loops is definitely my favorite.
I took this shot with my old manual Pentax 400-600mm zoom set at 600 and mounted on the K-70. I used 5 shots bracketed in full stops around a 1/2000 center.

I have always used the viewfinder myself. I wouldn't want a camera without some form of optical viewfinder. There are occasions where the LCD screen has the greater advantage however. In fact, I purchased my K-70 with that one single factor in mind. Given the fact that the LCD of the K-70 can flipped, rotated, or turned, to accommodate every possible viewing angle imaginable, it was the best way to go in terms of LCD design, convenience, and usefulness. A decision I have never regretted.

So I picked up a standard 40.5mm UV Filter for the rear of the lens, but it doesn't fit? It just sits and spins with no apparent thread engagement. Is there something special about these rear filters that I'm not aware of? Longer neck to threads, smaller outer barrel diameter?
Couldn't I just mount a 67mm UV Filter on the front instead?
Thank You ---------- Post added 08-14-22 at 08:29 AM ---------- Okay, so I broke out the calipers this morning and took a few measurements.
The thread size is indeed 40.5mm at the rear of the lens. The acceptable outer diameter for any filter to be inserted at the rear of the lens is 42mm.
The UV filter I picked up has the required 40.5mm thread, but the outer barrel diameter is 43mm, so it just sits there and spins, never touching the threads.
I've never seen filters sold with both Outer Dia. and Thread Dia....

Nope... No Rear Filter installed as yet. If memory serves there use to be a number of rear filters available for this lens. I'll have to look around.
Thanks guys!

Yes, I would expect that, however, the zoom ring near the lens mount does not rotate in any direction. It appears to be frozen at 400mm ---------- Post added 08-10-22 at 05:02 PM ---------- Hey!!! I just got it freed up!!! Good to go! Thank you very much! I didn't want to force it and break something without asking first.

I recently picked up an SMC Pentax Reflex Zoom 400-600mm F8-12.
Question is : How do you change the focal length on this lens. Mine appears to be locked at 400mm, and I don't see any magic buttons or rings to zoom it out to 500mm or 600mm. there is a ring at the base with the focal lengths 400mm, 500mm, 600mm marked on it, but it does not appear to rotate. The focusing ring is just that, the focusing ring. The red barrel line for focusing distance is always at 400mm as well. I'm use to using a lens that has a separate zoom ring and a focus ring. Probably a dumb question I know, but I can't seem to locate any information concerning this lens. Any assistance here would be greatly appreciated.

Myself, I felt #8 & 9 were the best here. It was a tough choice, but In the end, I voted for #8 because it represented two forms of the subject matter, the Stair Case itself, combined with the Cats Stare. Very original thinking. I found the rest to be the typical staircase shots taken by just about everyone with a decent camera rig.

So... If you shoot the boring/mundane/everyday in a creative way, will it still qualify as being boring and mundane?
Food for thought!

Weather Observatory located on top of Mount Washington in the NH White Mountain Presidential Range.
Contest states that you must use a lens 50mm or greater to qualify for this event, so I thought this 300mm shot would be appropriate. It's definitely Wide Open Space up there!

My first "real" camera was a Pentax ME Super with the standard SMC Pentax-M 50mm 1:2... I still own that camera today, although I haven't touched it in years. I just picked it up off the shelf, however, and it's still operating at 100% in all respects.
