I have been a Pentax shooter for many years. I always assumed that auto-focus was way behind the competition. Recently I had an 'opportunity' to switch systems (my equipment got stolen), but still decided to stay at Pentax. I borrowed the Nikon d7100 a bit and the auto-focus is noticeable better than Pentax.. Still, I think Pentax auto-focus speed and accuracy for day to day shooting is sufficient. The continues auto-focus of Nikon is way better. At the end I again chose the Pentax K over Nikon, because you get more features for less money with Pentax.
A last point, which has not been mentioned yet in previous posts. The line up of affordable silent auto-focus (SDM for Pentax) lens models lacks behind to competition. Most Pentax lenses are noisy screw focus lenses.

My K30 was recently stolen. I was happy with this camera and would not have replaced it yet for many year to come. As I have a 7 weeks old baby, I don't want to wait too much. I would love to have a K3(II), but the lack of KAF4 or flash make them both a no go. The specs of the K70 look good. However, I am not sure what "A shipping date for the K-70 will be announced in July" actually means. I probably would have to wait too long. Wat do you think? Announcement in july, available in August? Has a statement like this precedent in the past?
An alternative is the K2-S, which seems like a worth successor of my K30. Did anyone have both? How do they compare? The only thing I did not like about the K30 and Pentax in general is the autofocus, especially with HSM lensen of sigma. The review of K-S2 on this site says: "It dim light, its class-leading viewfinder autofocus can take over and deliver decisive focusing capabilities even if you can hardly see your subject ". Is this true? I have some experience with Nikon and compared to that, Pentax is anything, but class-leading in auto-focus. So how is the auto-focus of the K-S2. Is it notably better than on the K30? (like wow, better?).

Whogivesashitian sounds pretty good to me.
Good and affordable bodies and lenses, that's what I care about.

I am shooting with Pentax since 8 years. I recently bought the K-30, and I'm really happy with the camera. However, I would not recommend Pentax because of the lens prices. They are expensive! This does not only apply to First party, but also to third party sigma lenses. Example, in Europe the sigma 30 mm 1.4 has been around 400 euro for Pentax for years, while canikon versions are around 300 euro. Also: the Pentax version does not have HSM and we pay more?! This is not an exception. You can find first-pary 50 mm primes for half the money with canikon. Besides, FF has not been confirmed!
I know that the Pentaxians claim Weather Resistance and some other gimmicks to be unique to Pentax, but at the end it boils down to IQ and that is on a par with other marks and reviewer bias ultimately decides which camera comes out on top. The pro-pentax argument of limited lenses is also used a lot, but Canikon definitely have lenses that are on a par with those too.
Conclusively: I like Pentax, but my wallet does not.

Hi everyone,
I've recently bought a K30 with the reason to make photographs. However, I discovered that it is also capable to make very descent video that outclasses my camcorder with several magnitudes. Unfortunately the audio is really disappointing, especially in areas where there is a reasonable amount of background noise. Unfortunately there is no external mic plug. As a solution, I was thinking to buy a external audio recorder. I am mainly going to use it to shoot home video's and perhaps some amateur theatre.
Now I wondered how practical this set-up is. Since I record the audio externally, I need to sync it to the video. Is this a difficult thing to do? Because I can imagine that 'real' recording speeds or measurement of time can differ between two machines and that it will eventually run out of sync.
Does anyone have any experience with external audio recorders and syncing? If I would make a continues video shot, do I have to sync audio only at one time point, or do I need to do this every (e.g.) minute? I further more wondered whether there is an external audio recorder that I can mount on the camera's tripod mount (probably not)? If anyone has any experience syncing external audio (especially, talking people) to video, whether it is professional or amateur, please share your thoughts.
Thanks!
edit: sorry, I seem to have open this thread in the wrong section. Can this be modded to the Pentax Video and HDSLRs section

Very nice picture. Well done
I dont think you can. Correct me if I'am wrong, but if you save the raw picture from a HDR, you just save the last picture that was used to create the HDR. Can anyone confirm this?

I've been shooting with Pentax for 6 years now. I'm still hanging on to my istDL, but probably will get a K30 soon. I'm happy with the images the istDL produces, but since there have been quite some developments in dslr country (image stabilization, better iso preformance, shooting video), its probably worth while. Anyway, I had to make this second post to be able to send PMs:)
