My old kx also just stopped working one day. I've always meant to look more into it and possibly use it as a backup camera.

I was confused why the canon 18-135mm was being compared to the Pentax version.

Can you use a Canon 18-135mm on the K-r? Is there a mount that will allow it?
One reason I'm considering the Pentex version is a friend of mine has the Canon lens and loves it.

Great stuff. At the moment I'd like to stick with an A lens because I'm still trying to learn how to properly use the camera in manual modes.

To be honest I cannot decide which one I prefer. What will probably end up happening is I'll buy the first 50mm I find that looks like a good deal... 1.4 or 1.7. I think I'd be happy with either of them.

I'll keep an eye on the for sale section. I have found some descent deals on CL, but the drive time ruins it for me. I'm near the coast so the drive to Seattle is just about 2hrs one way. I do check often though as you never know what will come up.

Picked up a Pentax K-r this year. I'm still learning how to take really good photos so I didn't see a good reason to step up to a "nicer" camera. When I felt more comfortable I'll definitely upgrade. Now it's time to decide which lens to buy next. I'm leaning towards the 50mm A 1.4 or M 1.7 lens as my next purchase.
