Focusing issue?

Do you shoot in AV mode?

Watch your shutter speed. You shot this at 1/4 sec @ 180mm. SR is good, but not THAT good. ;). The rule of thumb for shutter speed with out stabilization is 1/ the focal length x crop factor, or in your case 1/(180x1.5) , or 1/270 sec. If you are really steady and have a subject that is standing still, you can get 2-3 additional stops, or about 1/60 sec. If you have a subject in motion, you need a higher shutter speed.

Learn to balance your shutter speed to aperture to ISO speed, and you will find yourself doing much better.

You definitely don't have a problem with your Tammy. Great shot. Beautiful B&W conversion also. Do you mind sharing your conversion technique?

I've has 2 copies of the Tammy in 2 different mounts. They've both been fine.

I don't think it is the camera, but the way ACR is handling the files.
As an experiment, try to process one of the files that is giving you trouble in ACR with Pentax Photo lab. If you get truer colors, then it is ACR, not the camera.

What mode were you before you switched to manual? If you were in green mode, or a picture mode, the camera will set parameters that you can not change. Try in P mode.

Now Chris, What are you doing corrupting that pretty young thing with cigarettes and cigars. Don't you know how dangerous those are?;)

Seriously, very nice set. good lighting, and you have gotten very good with your posing skills. I hope you don't mind, but I may borrow some of those poses.:)

Some advice for printing, please

I'm not that familiar with your printer, but just checking the specs, it probably is a fine general purpose all in one, but not a very good photo printer. I think you would be happier with the results from a dedicated photo printer. Something in the mid price range from Epson or Canon should work out very well for prints up to A4. you can also use a variety of photo papers with them to suit your needs, their drivers are color management aware, so you can have your image editor control the color (make sure you calibrate your monitor).

Generally speaking Epson has the better reputation for black and whites, although my Canon Pro 9000 also does an excellent job also.

Geez, I have a hard enough time figuring out pricing for my portrait sessions.

How much do Stock photo companies charge for a photograph? That might be a place to start. Is it a one time use thing, or are they wanting unlimited usage? I don't think a package price is a bad idea, depending on how many they want to buy. Maybe you can influence them to buy more through package.

Urgent studio help

You need to keep the camera in manual mode. The lights should have built in optical slaves. You only need directly connect the camera to 1 light via sync cord or radio slave. you use the optical slave on the 2nd light to fire it. P-TTL will not work with studio lights.

A sync cord is the cheapest and easiest to use to start out with. You need one with a PC terminal on one end and a Elinchrom terminal on the other, and it should be a long cord. You will also need a PC to Hotshoe adapter. A cheap generic one will work fine.

A trip to the library or bookstore for a basic lighting techniques will also be helpful. The neat thing about digital studio, is you can experiment, and adjust lighting and exposure to your hearts content, and it won't cost you a dime. Just experiment, analyze, adjust, post questions and examples here, and I am sure there will be plenty of people willing to help you out. Good luck.

For Sale - Sold: Pentax Super Program Kit

Withdrawn
Pentax Super Program Kit. Includes the following:
  • Super Program Body

  • A50 f1.4 lens

  • A35-105 f3.5 lens

  • M200 f4.0 Lens

  • Af280T Flash

  • Cases for camera and flash.

This kit belonged to my father (except the M200). I inherited it when he past away 3 years ago. It has been sitting on a shelf ever since. I would like to sell it as a kit.

Condition:
The body is in very good shape. All systems appear to work. The meter evaluates to a correct reading, at least it is the same reading as my DSLRs. The shutter works fine, and you can tell it changes speed, but I have not shot any film with it so I can not guaranty the accuracy. The A50 has a small nick in the filter ring, but has no effect on screwing on a filter or hood. Optically and mechanically it is mint. The A35-105 is mint. This is probably one of the most underrated A lens in the Pentax line up. Built like a tank, very good IQ, and it even has a usable macro range (not 1:1 though). The M200 is in good condition, optically and mechanically mint, cosmetically shows wear. The AF280T is also mint. The lenses and flash will work with any Pentax DSLR, although the flash is TTL and NOT P-TTL, K series will work only in manual or Thyrister Auto modes(2 power levels) only. TTL will work in Ist D and ist DS/DS2 bodies.

KEH would give me $388.00 for this gear. I will sell it for the best offer above US$325.00.

The person with the best offer above US$325.00 + shipping and insurance gets the kit. I'll keep this offer open till Friday 4/25 6:00pm US EDT.

Payment through Paypal - CC or linked accounts only, with confirmed address. Please no eChecks, they take way to long to clear

I will ship anywhere in the world.

OK, this is the last of my Digital gear.

Sold- Pentax K10D body. Excellent condition. It is missing the Eye cup.
Less than 8000 images on the counter. Firmware version 1.3. The view finder has a few dust bunnies in it, but does not effect usage. Dust is NOT on the sensor.

Included:
  • The box with all that it came with, except the Eye cup.

  • 2 Batteries (The OEM and 1 Maxell NP400 Battery).

  • 3 Transcend 2GB 150x SD cards

  • 1 Jiansisi IR Remote Control

The body shows no wear. I've not had exposure issues, dead flash issues, or major banding issues.
I am asking US$550.00 for this kit, BUT I will knock off US$29.00 for the missing eye cup (that is the cost of a replacement). PentaxWebstore Eyecup FP

Final kit cost US$521.00 + shipping and insurance. Firm

Sold - Tamron 28-75 f2.8 XR Di lens
This is a tough one. This lens is mint. You can not tell that it is used, it looks brand new. Here's the big But...

In February I dropped this lens. No damage to the glass, but the focus, zoom and aperture mechanisms were trashed. It spent all of March and part of April at Tamron, being repaired. To say they did an excellent job would be an understatement. Like I said, it looks brand new. I did an after repair focus test, and focus is spot on.

It comes in the OEM packaging with caps and lens hood.

So here is the dilemma. I can keep my mouth shut and sell this on ebay and get $300+ for it. KEH will take it for $200. Selling this here, I feel I have to disclose it's history.

So Here is the deal. The person with the best offer above US$200.00 + shipping and insurance gets the lens. I'll keep this offer open till Friday 4/25 6:00pm US EDT. Real opportunity for a bargain here.

Time To Say Goodbye

I am sure that most of you have noticed that I have been selling off my Pentax gear. Several people have asked me what is happening. Over the last couple of years I have made many friends on this forum, and I just feel the need to say goodbye. I am leaving the Pentax community, and switching to Nikon with the D300.

I have really debated whether I should write this post or not. At times this type of post can seem self serving and trollish. That is not the intent with this post, and I am truly sad about writing it.

As I am trying to build up a business that I can transition into when I retire from my day job in a few years, I need to look to my current, and future needs. Unfortunately, I don't see Pentax heading in the direction I feel I need to support that business. So, for the first time in 42 years, I will not be shooting with a Pentax in my hands.

I wish you all the best, and you should all know that this is, without a doubt, the best forum on the net. Adam has done a terrific job building and maintaining it, but it is all of you that make up the spirit of this community, and I shall miss that.

I have a few more things to sell, and will list them in the marketplace shortly, so I'll be around awhile longer.

May all your shots be in perfect focus, and your exposures just right.
All the best.

It seems it is not just Pentax, your merchandising and replenishment group has a problem getting to you. I had a long conversation with the Ritz manager local to me concerning an Epson P-3000. He can only get 1 at a time. Not even a 1 to show 1 to go. He is forced to sell the demo model. Now this is a $400 devise, I am certainly NOT going to pay full price for a demo model. The store personnel local to me are competent enough, and like Stevebrot states, you can only sell what you got. I really feel for you guys that try to do the right thing, and get no support from your buying group. It's like they are inviting us to buy on line. If you have a B&M store, the phrase "I can order it and have it in few days" doesn't cut it in this on line world we live in.

If you use a sync cord with studio flashes, you can sync at 1/180. The issue is when using the radio slaves.
