Back to Pentax?

Thanks, pschlute!

I read a review here and someone complains about the buffer size while shooting motorsports. I had no issue with the buffer size on the D7200 and I'm not usually shooting long bursts, but should I be worried about that?

QuoteQuote:

Cons:
Buffer utterly insufficient for Motorsports and Action (allows only 30-40 pics per shooting doing Raw+ and Jpg+). Compared to a Nikon D500 that keeps and keeps and keeps shooting, this is very few. Plus if you get a bunch of cars now, and then you have some more later you'll miss the latest ones due to the slow buffer acting.

Price: Compared to any other camera in this range it is expensive at 2000€. Considering both Cons I'd probably pick up a D500 instead (cheaper and better buffer)

Fewer lens options. Specially for newer lenses from brands like Sigma or Tamron. You can not get a Sigma 150-600mm for the Pentax system. And the old big zooms are rare and heavily looked after so prices are expensive (i know myself).

Back to Pentax?

Hi all!
I used to have the Pentax K30 and then the K III (Mark 1) which I was very pleased with, since at that time I was shooting mainly landscapes, but I switched to Nikon D7200 when I started to shoot wildlife, especially birds. Now I'm considering going back to Pentax, but I'm not up to date with the current performance of the cameras. How would a K1 II or a K3 III compare to a D7200 or a D500 (I'm also thinking about an upgrade of the Nikon system) in terms of focus speed and accuracy? I would pair the camera with a Pentax 150-450 lens or a Sigma/Tamron 150-600.
Thanks!

Waiting for StephenHampshire, as HAMA passed him the responsibility to be the judge of the next challenge.

Although there were just a few submission to this challenge, a few photos stood out and I could pick an obvious winner.

The verdict:

Winner - HAMA. His photo reflects perfectly the assignment. The background is pretty clean and following a speeding sports car at 1/50s is indeed challenging.

Runner-up - StephenHampshire. Beautiful subject, although he could have chosen a slower shutter speed for a more powerful panning effect.

Third - Vaskebjorn's duck. Sharp subject, clean background and a different approach.

A few words about the other submissions:
- jchorst - although the panning is technically correct, the background is very busy and the subject doesn't stand out as it should. Maybe a different point of view would have been a better choice.
- RGlasel - I would have preferred that one of the players be the subject and not the ball.
- BATMON - unfortunately not the best composition, with one wheel getting out of the frame and other in.
- nobody - not panning in my opinion. Camera stands still, the train and people are moving. A different interpretation of speed.
- sealonsf - good intention, but again a busy background and the taxi not so sharp.
- SpecialK - funny!
- noelcmn - good panning, again the busy background but the cyclist stands out. One of the candidates for the podium, but the probable massive crop affects the image resolution.

Congrats to all!

Panoramas are not exactly what I had in mind for this challenge. Let's stick with panning with moving subjects.

This week challenge is "Panning". We all know that Pentax is not an AF monster, but let's put it to the test.

This challenge will close at Midnight on Thursday April 5.

Rules
1. Post ONE photo (max 1024x1024).
2. The photo must portray an interpretation of the theme.
3. Post your single picture in this thread and explain what motivated you to take the picture and/or how you feel it represents the weekly theme (especially if it's not obvious).
4. The challenge is interactive. Any response is welcome.
5. The judge will pick the WINNERS and choose one of them to be the judge for the next week.
6. This challenge runs for 7 days plus an additional day for the judge to choose the winners.
7. Any Pentax/Ricoh (DSLR) camera can be used.
8. Pictures can be from any time frame, not just within the week of the current theme.
9. In case the winner of a challenge is unable to become the judge for the next challenge, they will PM the #2 winner for that person to be the judge

Here's a pic, to get you started (the subject is not bound to motor vehicles though):

Good luck!
