need studio set-up for Saturday for a "detective story" dinner

Thank you very much for your advice! Iīll see if I can borrow a flash from a friend. But actually it is a good idea to get one since I have a feeling that more "detective story" dinner parties will follow ;)

Edit:

That is a very good point - I will certainly try the bounce card too, thank you :)

thank you very much :) can you perhaps estimate if the light of the flash will be enough for group shots?
I will go to DIY store today after the work and look for black foamie thing ))

I was in NZ in August :) So beautiful! And in Wellington I was several times in a row in Embassy Theatre - such a cool cinema! I miss it. I wish I could be there for the third Hobbit movie premiere!

Hello everyone,

On Saturday I have 8 friends coming over for a "detective story" dinner, so everyone will be in a costume. I would not want to miss that opportunity to take many photos including group and portraits shots :)

Since I have no experience whatsoever regarding studio photography I would appreciate your suggestions regarding what kind of gear I need exactly for sufficient lighting. Amazon links would be great. I am afraid for Adorama or B&H orders it is too late (I live in Germany). My budget lies somwhere around 300 EUR.

What I have:
Pentax K3, a camera tripod and Metz Mecablitz 58 AF2.

Thank you very much!!!

For 400$ i will get a new flash, there is no optical finder, low frame rate,if flash system like NEX 7,than lower compare to K-3,AF prediction should be faster in K-3,cause of the AF Type and module, body to small to handle 300+converter or 560mm,same with other bigs comming up next (CP+)...
I see only a little bit bigger sensor, thats all.
Donīt need
And try the resolution between NIKON D7100 and D 600....not a big deal...
With K-3 i get the better camera, better flashsystem, better finder and better lenssystem.

Apart from finincial aspect, photography is somewhere in between piano play, drawing and running. All my hobbies complement each other very well. Running doesnīt require almost any investment. As long as I have a digital piano photography will always occupy the first place though in terms of $$ or in my case €€ ;)

Hello everyone!

Just realised that I never actually said a proper "hello" since my registration here:o
I enjoy this forum very much! So much information, so many interesting people and their superb achievements!
Its always exciting to follow forum threads, especially the ones with rumors in them

My first ever camera was a point-and-shoot by Konica Minolta. I did a lot of snap shots with it, but after a while I wasnt happy about the lack of pretty any setting one could do by oneself and most importantly IQ. Then I saw an article in a photo magazine about Pentax K100D Super and was interested. I bought it finally. It took me some time to learn and I am still learning. At some point I wanted better AF, IQ and also a wider ISO range (though IMO it is much more fun to use MF, but because of its speed AF just comes in handy in some situations). Lucky for me K5 was there for a while already. I couldnīt decide between K5 and K5II - so I spent a lot of time here on pentaxforums :DAfter 8 months or so K5 started to develop AF issues, so I had to send it back. After that I almost bought K5II. But with rumors gaining strength I decided to wait just a bit more. Currently I am waiting for the moment when I can hold K3 in my hands:rolleyes: Hope, it wont take too long.
For me photographs have always been the most precious thing I could take home from my journey. The fun thing about photography for me is that the learning and evolving process is an ongoing one, every time there is something new to achieve.

Hello :)

There is a sale on

https://secure.de.vente-privee.com/vp4/Login/Portal_DE.aspx

a german web site..

e.g. Pentax K5II with 18-55mm for 749 EUR or Optio WG3 GPS for 249 EUR.

One has to register on the web site though.

Just thought perhaps someone could find it a nice deal :)

This unfortunately delays my purchase. With X-Mas yet to come I donīt see the price to drop so soon.

Well, in Germany they just changed currency symbol - I was afraid of that (( The price for body only is 1299 EUR. Just the same story as in GB or in Slovenia...
To make things worse: the few retailers donīt offer a kit with 18-135 WR , just with 18-55mm.

this is very interesting! My K5 also developed strange behaviour concerning auto focus. First I thought this might be fault of my lens, but no, it is auto focus.

Since I bought my K5 at amazon they offered me two choices:
1. I send DSLR to Pentax Services so they repair it
2. amazon takes DSLR back and reimburses the amount paid

I guess Iīll go with number 2, now more than ever encouraged by stormtechīs experiences.

But then again, should I go with K5II/K5IIs or should I wait till September-October and see if thereīll be new announcements.. I donīt know
