That isn't entirely true. Just like soldiers of our current services often suffer PTSD, vets from WWII did too. It manifested itself in many broken homes, abused spouse's and children, alcoholism, drug abuse and even suicide. Unfortunately for them PTSD wasn't a recognized condition and no one from that time frame received any kind of proper treatment and we're forced to deal with it on their own. Many failed.

Spelling is Knievel. I knew him very well, growing up in the same town with him.
Sadly, I've never gotten into the Star Wars saga; but it's never too late!

I have seen the previous Star Wars, however - I will not be seeing this one.
I have walked away from everything disney when they fired their IT staff down in Florida and made them train their replacements that they brought in from India - at this time last year.
Sorry about the political comment......

I am currently in the middle of: Diary of Anne Frank. Let me say this is not an easy read. Such a beautiful, talented, gifted and sweet child. She was so adept at keeping everyone's spirits alive with love, encouragement and joy. There are times when I have had to put the book down for a couple of days while trying to get my mind around what happened to her and her people.

You can always tell a Chevy guy, but you can't tell him much. :p
Seriously, my next truck will most likely be a Chevy 1 ton. Diesel or gas is yet to be decided. After 5 recalls on my Ram, two of them for the exact same thing, (the second was to replace the left tie-rod end that was replaced with a defective part that was installed at the first recall), replacing the ball joints at 20,000, and both batteries before the truck was 3 years old, and a local service manager whose first words after "hello" are always to tell me what I did to cause a problem (or didn't do to prevent it) I'm done with Ram.

Yep...
Tighelander, do you have her contact info?
You see, I take obligations pay it forward seriously. And don't take them just as is. You took an obligation, what you gonna do?
Long time ago I bought used knitting machine from old lady for very good price with promise to take a good care of it. She was afraid that her "baby" :) will end up collecting dust.
I kept my promise very well, but when I could not use it any more, I decided to sell it. I was worried like that old lady who will buy it. It was crazy bidding seriously, good condition and desired model. The Japanese factory has never been re-built after earthquake, and production stopped long time ago.
Some buyer begged me to reserve it to her, and a higher bidder requested to ship to Middle East although I did not list international (thanks, ebay!), and I cancelled the transaction.
I offered the machine to lower bidder, and she was so happy to accept that. She wrote me that old lady's machine goes to Latin America to knit garments for people in need for charity. She made my day. So, I added some very good extras for her in the package.
With that sale I bought my first DSLR, and discovered that I can use old lenses. That's how I bought my first old Pentax, and found this forum. And I can tell you for sure, without Pentax community I could stop going into photography in very beginning. I truly believed that I'm not really capable of learning all that. And the photography helped me survive the worst time in my life.
Do you follow me so far? :)

So did you listen to the little guy that wanted more life boats on the Titanic?
I always listened to my employees, even when it was stupid stuff. Every so often they had a brilliant idea that worked well. Not often, but I sure didn't want to miss out on any.
I worked for a gear making company almost 50 years ago. I got the job in hard times and was lucky to have a friend that helped me get it. It was in a production office where we scheduled the procedure for each product from start to finish and on to shipping. Beginning at 7am you started printing little movie ticket size cards for each of the operations it would go the through and then delivering them to the various machinists. It could take 2-3 hours every morning. There were 5 employees doing this, and most of them did not like me much.....they had a buddy they wanted to get the job I got. A bunch of A-holes and I didn't take any BS, so it was not a good environment.
After a few weeks of mastering the boring work of hand copying many dozen tiny work cards, it dawned on me that I could put the original batch in a plastic cover and copy them all at once, cut them out on a paper cutter, and be done in 15 minutes. I did it..and it worked perfectly. While the other guys were still getting writing cramps I was able to take an early break and relax.
The boss was furious, and wanted me fired, but my friend was also a joint owner of the corp and the boss knew better. They harassed me and made me stop my copying procedure, even though it saved many man hours every day. I went to the CEO and showed him my procedure and explained it all to him.
The new production dept consisted of one man and me....the old boss kept his job but the other three were no longer needed.
I stayed until a better job opened up in another company about six weeks later. When I left the CEO gave me a $500. bonus...not small change way back then! :D
Yep, that's when I learned to listen. Even the new guy may have a good idea.:D
Regards!:)

Whoa, check it out. Righteous insight, Daddy-O!
I do agree with the premise of the thread. Some square cat layin' down some outdated rap can be a real drag.
Just chill out and tell the dork to flake off.
Well, gotta book now. Keep on truckin'!
Peace. ☮

On the other hand, they could tell you to go pound sand. They are under no law to refund the difference either in cash or store credit, yet they do so as a courtesy to the customer. Not every store will do that, and I applaud them for doing so.

You just got me started. I made the exactly same experience.
In past days, not everyone had a camera. It was something special to have both the gear and the knowledge to be able to take pictures and therefore, people were grateful. I really miss those times where you took a picture with your SLR, later gave it to someone and people were crazily happy about it and put it on the wall and kept it there forever.
Nowadays, everyone has at least a smartphone and most people have point&shoot cameras. Taking pictures is no longer anything that's considered "work" or "art" especially since 99% of people use auto exposure. Pictures aren't kept as memories, they are gathered.
Average Joe thinks that the effort for you was in pressing a button. He isn't aware that you actually had to know your shit and select a decent composition and exposure and also invest some time in PP. He thinks the only reason that his pictures suck compared to yours is that you shelled out more money for an expensive camera.
My experience is that people with no knowledge about photography usually are not grateful at all. They more or less expect you to give them pictures for free. If you take some time for PP they will sometimes even be pissed because it "can't take so long to download those from your camera". I even had one case where I was on vacation with someone and took some HDRs and later got scolded because I "copy&pasted some other sky". In other cases I was accused of using a "shitty camera" because the "background is blurry". Yeah, and what's always happening is that you get shafted because the pictures you took are "too large".
People that know at least the basics of photography are a totally different story, though.
Anyways, my strategy is the following: Whenever there is a chance some "bystander" wants to have a copy of some image, I quickly take a few jpeg shots in green mode - no composition, subject centered in frame, maximum DOF, no PP, lowest resolution. That's for them and it exactly meets their expectations.

My faithful old Casio. I got it in 2007? Can't remember for sure. I take comfort in the fact that it contains more computing power than the original computers in the Space Shuttle. Taken with my MX-1. I love that little camera.
