Oh sorry ... I knew the GR was smaller ... waiting for the review for the S2 before I decide.

I love the quality and compact design of the GR, but the S2 is still a smaller camera; especially compared to the GR and the weather sealing is huge for me on the BC West Coast. But the portabiliy of the GR is so hard to find with the quality of the images.

I am currently getting back into Pentax and Ricoh after using Nikon for a short time. Don't get me wrong; I'm still using a Nikon D800, but would like to find a semi compact or compact to compliment my kit. I know there is not much information out on the S2, but I am wondering if anyone has any ideas on making the choice.
My primary use is landscape and the odd street photography.

I read that exact article that shows the differences in resolution and how sharp each one is. The difference for me being a landscape photographer is how sharp a FF lens is. FF is much sharper and not just with pixel peepers, but in the actual lab tests. But I guess it is what you pay for.

I use an aftermarket hood with a cpl, nd, and gnd depending on the scene all stacked or used alone. I bought the 15mm several months ago, but did not find it as sharp. So I sold it and bought the 40 mm (sharp) and the 90 mm Tamron macro.

Just sharing a link with all of my landscape and waterscape photography using the Pentax K-5. Living on the west coast of British Columbia the weather sealing was a driving force for me to go with Pentax rather than Canon / Nikon.
Still debating on the K-3 as my next body or moving to FF. I am 50-50 right now on the fence and may be more leaning to Pentax after the release of the HD 20-40.
Any how here is a link to my works. All Pentax K-5 with mainly Pentax lenses: Jason Wilde Photography
Lenses used
Primary lens: Pentax DA 21mm ltd. 3.2
Secondary: Pentax DA 40mm
Third: Sigma 10-20mm
Tripod: Manfrotto

Here are a few shots of stitched panos using my K-5 and 21mm DA LTD. I love the detail and sharpness from this lens and would love to pick up the 15mm DA LTD and see how it performs as many have said it is superior or for that matter the 31mm FA.
This above shot is actually from the Sigma 10-20 EX |

Thank you. Is the sharpness drastically noticeable from the 12-24 to the 31. I am concerned with the shorter focal length and would like some flexibility, but need to have that tack sharpness for landscapes.

After more and more research I've come down to two choices. Not in my original list.
Pentax SMC FA 31mm f/1.8 AL Limited
Zeiss f Pentax Distagon T 1:2.0/28 mm ZK
Any ideas? |

Hi all! I am a semi pro landscape photographer that has been featured in National Geographic and Canadian Geographic. I am looking at several lenses for landscape photography and wanted to know if anyone had any experience with any that I am looking at. I am currently using theTamron AF 17-50mm F2.8 XR LD Aspherical IF SP as my go to lens. Here are some examples of what I am taking. I am not quite satisfied with the sharpness on the borders and extreme borders and am looking at primes, but am finding that primes will not fit every occasion while I am out in the field.
Examples: jasonwilde on deviantART jasonwilde on deviantART jasonwilde on deviantART
Here is what I have narrowed down to for new lens selection.
Pentax SMC DA* 16-50mm f/2.8 ED
Pentax SMC-DA 21mm f/3.2 AL Limited
Pentax SMC-FA* 24mm f/2 AL [IF]
Tokina RMC 17mm f/3.5
Sigma AF 24mm f/2.8 macro
Sigma AF 17-70mm f/2.8-4.5 DC
I have read all the technical analysis over at photozone.de and understand what I am looking for, but I wanted to get some personal opinions.
