Haha, I kind of suffer from the same disease. If you are into history, you can't miss out on a 645, that one did it for me.

Exactly, especially at 210mm the difference is high. And this is visible in the sample shots as well, the picture (@210mm F4) of the lock on the fence is very soft.

Being quite disappointed with the first reviews, even ephotozine seems to back up cameravilles' testing according to me, i went looking for some other reviews and found a favorable one : [Test] Pentax D*FA 70-210*mm f/4 HD ED SDM WR
So hopefully this is copy variation after all.

This is amusing, there's no place in the world where you find more culture and history n such a small area than Belgium. Ghent, Mechelen, Antwerp, Brussels, Bruges... there all just a stone's throw away from each other and have all been historically important cities. Buy a history book. This said, the political structure in Belgium is very complex, this is historically grown because of the difference in culture between the north and south. The views on how to organise a society are totally different. This is causing poor decision making and is one of the reasons Wallonia struggles the modernise its economy. The current discussion about CETA deal with Canada is a typical example of this.
But Charleroi will live up in time and for now, it's a great place to take pictures, there's also a film (Izgnanie (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0488905/) which has its impressive opening sequence shot in Charleroi, check it out :)

I found the disclaimer funny too, TCS is generally favourable towards Pentax products (645Z, K-3, K-S2, MX-1,Q), sometimes not but with reason (K-01, K-S1)
Pentax is still an oldschool brand in their eyes, not really following market trends (or with delay) and I guess they would like to see Pentax making some serious efforts in the mirrorless/video area, so they poke a bit every now and then..

Thank you Ricoh for breathing all this new life into Pentax!
I think the K-1 is a very well thought out camera with focus put where it should be (ergonomics, image quality, viewfinder, wheathersealing, ...), a true photographers camera!

During the years I have used it, I remember few situations where I really wished I still had my K-7 with me which I sold while getting the K-01.
First one was during (very) sunny days, in my experience, the sun reflections on the LCD screen make it very hard to use. I got the K-01 to take with me on hikes as it's smaller than a DSLR, I had counted on less convenience, but did not expect it to be so much.
Second one was the every now and then action shot I tried, where the AF.C on moving subjects is just too slow.
Third was a family event (in a low lit tent) where the camera, in low light, really struggled to get focus. Manual focus peaking partly saved me that night, but even that was difficult to see on the back screen.
I also noticed that screwdriven lenses like the F 70-210 are much slower on the K-01 than on my K200D.
I have enjoyed the K-01 the time I had it, I think it looks nice and definetly the image quality is up there with the best. For stills photography it's great.
But as said there have situations where i wished for an OVF, faster focussing, better low light focus.
No doubt, if performance is what you need for your type of photography, there's much better camera's out there.
Does it mean the K-01 holds you back... well no, of course it does not. No camera does that, they are all tools which enable you to do certain things.

It confirms the reviews so far, i'm particularly pleased that the corner sharpness at the wide angle seems really good,
I'm currently in the market for a good wide angle but can't decide, since the price on the HD 20-40 seems to finally have come down to sane levels (around 670-750 Euro in Europe), i've always liked the compactness and low weight of this lens and more importantly it seems able to render colors very subtle, with a rich tonality (+WR,DC motor) but the apparent sample variation holds me back, my head says pick the 16-85 as it seems a far safer bet (probably more consistently sharp, wider, more reach, HD, WR,...but still...

I recently noticed a slight hesitation with my 50-135 after not having used it a couple of months. It quickly worked fine again but it is not giving confidence.
I would like to know how SDM works and how it is different from DC, must be a reason why Pentax chooses DC (since it is available) for weathersealed lenses (18-135 and 16-85) and SDM for non-weathersealed ones (18-270).

The files from the yaotomi site are poorly processed, download them and open them in photoshop, they look a whole lot better.
Photoble samples look great (k-3 pictures indeed). Performance at 16mm 3.5 is excellent (also borders)
Corners at 85mm are a bit weak, center ok.
Looking forward to a full review, but the samples look promising..

My copy of this lens gave me similar focus problems, I could more or less fix it through AF fine adjustment but that only works at a certain focal lenght, it made the issue bigger at other focal lenghts. Adjustment somewhere around 35mm didn't help. I even gave the lens in repairs and it came back saying it performs within factory tolerance. Disappointed, I put it in the corner of my cupboard and it stayed there for two years.
Now I use it on my new K-01 (CDAF) and focus is spot on all the time.

Hi there,
I own the K-01 and an SMC-F 35-70. I do not own the kitlens. I agree with most comments above, the image quality of the 35-70 is outstanding. Very low distortion/CA. Autofocus is very fast and accurate. And oh yes, the great macro function! The lens is also light and small.
Mechanically it feels a bit 'loose' but it is actually well built, the autofocus is rough. 35mm will make you wish you had something wider in your pocket. Focus ring is a bit small for manual use.
In all, and regardless of the low price, it's a no-brainer really which couples great with the K-01.
