How many lenses do you have?

I hadn't updated my list in several years so I went through them this weekend and below is my current list of lenses (262 as of this count) for use on my Pentax cameras.

I began acquiring lenses back in the mid 70's when I bought my first Spotmatic and this list includes M39, M42,T mount, Adaptall and the various PK mounts as well as lenses for the Q and 110 camera systems. The sad part is that I have missed a few. I know of several lenses that are unaccounted for on this list but I couldn't track them down (most likely currently still in storage) so to be fair they didn't make the list. This list also doesn't include any lenses for the other camera systems that I have that can't be used / adapted onto my Pentax cameras. I also didn't include a whole host of adapters, extenders, teleconverters, extension tubes, bellows, microscope objectives and such.

The duplicates [X2] that show up in this list are usually, but not always, due lenses that came with cameras that I purchased over the years. I know that there is overlap of focal lengths in many of the series of Pentax and Takumar lenses, but as I updated cameras over the years I kept many, not all, of the previous series lenses for one reason or another. It could be because I liked the way the older lens rendered compared to the new one, maybe due to their convenient size in the case of the M series, or the fact that I still enjoy manual focusing at times, at least that's how I justified it to myself, at least my list pales in comparison to Cyberjunkie's list, kudos to you!

I've never been asked to pay money, but I get approached much more often than I did in years past. I've been walking around my neighborhood for decades with my camera slung over my shoulder. Many times with a longer lens for birding but most times just a smaller prime or an all purpose zoom lens. Over the last several years we've had an influx of new residents and now not a week goes by without someone coming up to me and basically demanding to know why I'm carrying around a camera and what I'm up to. I've even been asked while I was shooting in my own front yard with a tripod pointed at a birds nest in my own tree. The level of fear of just about anything anymore amazes and saddens me.

I read that to mean that you had to use either one of those cameras, one of those lenses or both. I looked at the submission form and there is an "other" option under both the camera and the lens lists. It states that if "other" is selected for both entries that the submission will be ineligible. So it looks like you could for example use a K3 with any of the eligible lenses or say a K1 with any other lens whether its on the list or not.

If it's a cemented pair I wouldn't mess with it unless it was something like an A* 135mm 1.8 or the like, not an easy fix. I don't know what lens this is, but even if its not a cemented pair I have encountered some early 80's third party lenses where the elements are glued in place rather than held in place with friction rings or the like which makes some of them nearly impossible to get apart and then reassembled.

I have many lenses that I don't use on a regular basis. I get too sentimental I guess. Every time I think I should sell some of them I remember a shot or a moment that I captured with one of them and decide to hang onto them "just in case"

That is peculiar that it's almost the exact opposite. In addition to turning off or removing the winder to get the shutter to close I also had luck at times with switching to a manual shutter speed (1/2000). Very odd, and mine would happen about every 4-5 frames with the winder on and it probably only happened once or twice with a bare camera.

Mine used to have an issue where the shutter would stay open even on bright sunny days which happened most often when I had the winder or motor drive turned on. Many times the only way to get it to close would be to turn the winder or motor drive off or remove them completely. It used to happen less frequently when I just used a bare camera. It seemed to have started not long after I had the battery cells replaced in the LX power battery pack so I haven't used the motor drive since Eric replaced the board just in case.

Eric told me the same thing a little over a year ago. Mine came up with a circuit board issue and at first he said I was out of luck as he was out of boards and unless I could find another LX with the same board (apparently there were 3 different ones) there was nothing he could do. He then emailed me back the next day and said that he found an one that he had been using for parts at it's board matched mine - phew! I still own one LX body that Eric refurbished two years ago, now that he doesn't work on them anymore hopefully mine will continue to work for many years to come.

A Sigma 50-500 or if you can go manual focus, the A-400mm F5.6 is a pretty decent lens that's often underrated, it won't break the bank and does work well with a teleconverter.

I have been using the OPGS1 on my K3 for several years and find it to be hit or miss for me. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. There are times where I'll shoot maybe a dozen shots from the same position on a clam night with a heavy duty tripod same shutter settings without touching the camera in between shots. Some shots will look great and others will look like I didn't have it on at all. It also appears randomly, I'll get 8 great shots but shots 2,3,6 & 9 will look like I didn't use it at all. It's always done that and I've never been able to figure out why so I always shoot enough to make sure I get the shot.

My Q7 setup isn't my every day camera but it's a really great backup when I don't have the space for larger camera gear or for places where I can't take a larger camera, I won't get rid of mine.

A couple of issues to be aware of.

The flange that is protecting the aperture arm is pretty long and will probably need to be shaved down. I don't know about the K-X specifically but on the Kaf2 mount there are a pair of contacts on a small plastic protrusion located just inside the lens mount flange on the bottom side of the mirror bow. Originally for the power zoom feature but now used for auto focusing on lenses without screw drive. As you turn the lens while mounting it this flange looks long enough that it might contact that piece. If you feel any resistance while mounting the lens, stop as the flange can damage these if forced. I know from experience with an older Sigma lens and a brand new K10D many years ago.

Also, it's hard to tell from the picture, but this lens MIGHT have the dreaded Ricoh pin. At the 4 o'clock position in your third picture from the top there is a small contact. If that contact is a pin which extends below the mount, it will need to be removed before attaching the lens or the pin will get stuck in the auto drive socket on the camera body when you mount it and it is a bear to get the lens off once this happens. If on the other hand the contact is a small rounded ball bearing type connection you should be fine.

Sigma mini-wide 28 2.8 doublet element

I have a few older Sigma lenses from the 28 mini-wide era, and have successfully "partially" disassembled a few of them to clean internal lens surfaces. I don't know specifically about the mini-wide, as I have only ever had to take the front element out of that one. But what I've found is that on at least some of their older lenses, some of the internal assemblies are press fit together or even glued together making cleaning them rather difficult.

They are the same camera, I think the different names (Z vs PZ) referred to the market where they were sold. The difference between the Z-1/PZ-1 and the Z-1p/PZ-1p is that the p version has a panorama mode and the menu options are a little different.
