Survey completed wrongly in the name of K30

Great idea thanks for organising! :)

Can those of us who have suffered a failure perhaps use this to get Pentax to respond with some responsibility? I 've failed to get them to acknowledge any problem here in the UK through Johnsons Photopia.

My aperture motor gave up literally days out of the warranty period I was most frustrated and disappointed with the failure of Pentax to acknowledge there is an issue. Johnsons wanted £170 + VAT to fix and later upon my complaint £140 + VAT.

At failure I had a shutter count of just over 42000 and my manufacture date is 21.06.12 (UK format)

Thanks again.

Delighted with my K-30 and the 18-135WR. Got a prime SMC M 50 and amazed at that.

Here in Blighty there's an offer on for the Sigma at £169 with the Pentax at £258. I need one or the other for a little fun on the coast with fishing boats/people at distance/surfers as well as a little general fun at home. I'm thinking I'll use at the long end quite a bit.

Having read the reviews and other forum comments I understand that the Pentax choice is the accepted wisdom as the best choice below say 350 USD.

However there are a number of comments that the OS version on the Sigma is better at the long range than internal stabilisation. There is also quite a price difference which I would appreciate but if there really was a substantial difference between the IQ I'd go for the Pentax.

I'm also thinking that when I go walkabout will I miss the 15mm shorter on the Pentax.

Decisions, decisions.........

Please would members share their views on my best choice. Cheers to all.

The quality of this old SMC 50mm is amazing considering it cost me less than half a tank of fuel for my car. Some might say and I'd be inclined to agree that black berries aren't the most exciting subject but in this I like the way the in focus ones come out at various places rather than just one.

I know you siad it was too much for the 18-135 WR but getting that lens later on its own is going to cost you more than in a kit and are you really going to be able to last long without more zoom. Perhaps I'm just mentally consolidating my own purchase decision but I am really happy with the 18-135WR. Good luck in your choices..........

I looked for eight months before buying after giving up my SLR more than 20 years ago. Soon as I got the K-30 in my hands it was marriage. Have you got your hands on it yet? :-)

Thanks

I reckon its the flash retaining arms as its the same when the camera is on or off, it comes from that area and is muted by pressing on the flash housing.

Flash seems fine.

K30 Teething Questions

Hi Everyone.

Had my new K30 with the 18-135WR for a few weeks and I mustsay what a stunning piece of kit it is. Had a Pentax MX years ago and having been many years without an SLR Itook six months to decide what to buy and here I am returning to the fold withthe K30. Took months pouring over N’sand C’s, read the K30 reviews, got one in my hands and that was it.

I have a couple of issues I’d like members help with please:

1. Do youget a rather “chinky” rattle from the flash housing if you shake the cameragently from side to side or when walking? It stops if you put your finger firmly on the flash housing or if you openthe flash. I’m guessing this is thesmall retaining arms moving when they are left looser in the closed positionand whilst slightly distracting when walking this is harmless?

2. I had an issue last week when I went out in ashower for ten minutes, it was quite cold and when I came back inside I tried to use the flash and got a “BatteryDischarged” message several times. Ithen felt that the left hand grip was hot in the palm of my hand (I’m guessingthis is where the charging capacitor is located?) so I turned her off andpopped out the battery.

On closer inspection I noticed Ihad what looked like condensation inside the viewfinder and LCD screen. I reckon it was condensation because it wasfine mist rather than droplets. I leftthe camera for several hours and the condensation disappeared and the flashworks fine.

My question here is twofold:

a) Can condensation really form within minutes froma temperature differential of say a wet 12 Deg C to a 22 Deg C dry environment;or do I have water ingress?

b) Should I be concerned about potential long termproblems being as the capacitor has got really hot and the flash wouldn’toperate as well as general concern about dampness inside?

Thanks in advance for your thoughts.
