The sample images are pretty nice. I'm sold! Mine is on it's way to my doorstep right now! Now I am fully weather resistant.

I-70 West Exit 254: Buffalo Herd Overlook by TheJeremyNix, on Flickr
This is 1-70 West in Colorado. To the left of the highway you can view descendents of 7 of the remaining wild animals found in Yellowstone National Park in 1914. You can also take in this excellent view of the Rockies.

I know! I have always found it fascinating how stark of a contrast the two areas are. Colfax (15th Ave) is dirty and old looking, with a crazy mix of people. Then on 17th it's beautiful older buildings, quiet neighborhoods, with well kept yards. City Park is right there, The Zoo is right there. There is like this weird imaginary line that separates the two.

As far as the shot being posed in any way, it wasn't. The guy waving his arms around attracted my attention, the guy in the Los Angeles hat was asking me why I was taking pictures. He didn't particularly like having his picture taken. It was earlier in the day, around 10 a.m. or so I think, so the light was harsh. This was my first encounter with people on my walk that day. The man in the L.A. hat had some strong words for me, telling me "that'll get you killed" when I told him I was working on a photo essay about Colfax, which sort of rattled me for the rest of the day. I like the shot, but that's because I can remember the experience and the interaction I had with it. I'm new at this, and this is the first time I have considered anything like a call for entries. I have a lot to learn, but I want to at least try. Here is another image I am considering on submitting: jnix_10_12 by TheJeremyNix, on Flickr
and here are some other images of people from my day. I was shooting for my photography class, the assignment was a photo essay, so that is what I was trying to emulate with these shots: jnix_10_3 by TheJeremyNix, on Flickr jnix_10_4 by TheJeremyNix, on Flickr jnix_10_11 by TheJeremyNix, on Flickr jnix_10_5 by TheJeremyNix, on Flickr

The show is open, the only requirement is that the images are black and white and lens based.

I am contemplating submitting this particular photo to a call for entry for black and white photographs. Is it worthy of a try? If I'm going to spend $25 to answer a call for entry, I want to have a better than 50% shot of it making the show. What's your experience with submitting your work for gallery shows? jnix_10_1 by TheJeremyNix, on Flickr

I figured it out, had to use the BBC code instead. Sorry about that. Just learning the nuances of your forum! Thanks for your quick response.

On a side note: Could anyone give me any quick tips on how to embed photos from flickr in my posts here? I am having issues with that right now. Thanks in advance!

Jeremy.
I am a 38 year old first year photography student with aspirations of becoming involved in Journalism. I recently purchased a Pentax K-5 after reading multiple great reviews about it. I proceeded to buy about 6 old K-mount lenses of different sizes and shapes. Right now I am primarily shooting with a 35mm prime lens, the Pentax DA 1:2.4 35 MM AL. I am interested in learning all aspects of photography, and right now I am shooting a lot of street photography for my assignments in class. Typical me, I move to the mountains right as I'm discovering an affinity for shooting in an urban location.
I have not yet posted on this forum, but I used the lens reviews extensively while researching inexpensive options to find good manual lenses. I like old technology anyway, so it has been a cool experience for me. I ran into a few problems with different lenses. I have one lens that is supposed to be a k-mount lens, an old Sigma 75-210 zoom lens, I think I bought it for like $9.99 though, so it's really no big deal. Nothing ventured, nothing gained. So far I am loving the camera. Looking forward to learning more about photography and the cool vibe I am getting from the world of Pentax users. run by TheJeremyNix, on Flickr
