Just a quick update on the parts list. I checked with ServoCity, which is where I bought all the COTS pieces less the bellows, and about 85% of the parts I used are discontinued.

Hadn't thought of that, good call. I just did. No change in performance except that the green screen took a couple seconds longer to appear.
Their automatic online system indicates around $500, which would be worth it given how much I use this camera. And it's just shy of 100K on the shutter count now, too. So it's distinctly possible that parts are getting worn out.
Unfortunately it's not that easy. I've been using identical SD cards (SDXC 95MBPs 256GB, just upgraded one to 512GB today, but I only write to one at a time.)
I think that's a good idea. There's a lot of inconvenience I can live with to save $500 and a couple months without my K-1 again (last time Precision had this camera I didn't see it for almost a year because it had to go back to Ricoh Japan for repairs and evaluation.)

Nope, the images look a-okay. So it's clearly just a display read-out issue in low light. It appears linked to EV. In full sun if I use the Mitakon 120mm 1:4-4.5 macro lens, same issue. It seems like the camera is displaying green instead of an underexposed image but recording correctly almost all the time (there are those rare occasions with the green line.)
Good idea. I just tried it and it's not working for me. Switching modes simply changed how bright the green was. EDIT: Just tried it but switching from normal to night view red and then switching modes and that appears to correct the issue. Very odd.
That sounds like a probable culprit.

Hey, everyone,
My K-1, one of the two digital cameras I use the most, has recently started doing two weird things. I updated the firmware, they're still going on.
1- In low light, the live view screen display turns bright, bright green. Solid green. The screen goes back to normal after live view is turned off. When it starts, the green slowly (over a second or two) builds from the center of the screen. I can switch to a menu or the info screen and it's fine, but then as soon as I go back to live view, the green is back instantly.
2- On some isolated occasions --I shot 1,200 photos on Saturday and about five had this - a green line exhibits in images in one of a handful of different places along the lower side of the sensor. There appears to be no connection with this and use or heat as it happened last night during a cold (low 40s) astro shoot and did not happen during a 200-shot sequence (fewer photos than the overnight shot) of a waterfall and old mill.
Is this a known problem with a known remedy? I searched online and didn't find anything.

If no one speaks up, because I forget if we added anyone after you, then when you're ready just ship it back to me. I'll send you my address separately. Let's give anyone next in line until end of day on 5 March to reply. That should be enough time.

Send it on to Eric. Please include a note to him to charge the repair and shipping on to the next person to me (David Hancock, he knows who I am.) I'll shoot him an e-mail today to let him know the plan. Make sure to include the correct forwarding address with the note so it doesn't come to me first. If you want to ship it to him from Boston to save a few dollars, definitely do. At the Post Office, the easiest way to do it will be to ship it via USPS Priority Mail. Ask the counter agent for a Priority Mail Box 4, which is a 7x7x6 "cube." Or there are flat-rate medium-sized boxes in the lobby you can use. From Boston to Knoxville the price will be about the same for shipping each of them but the medium boxes need more dunnage and USPS will charge you for that (and tape). Definitely do not ship Parcel, please, as the tracking mechanisms for Priority are better (I've never had a Priority package lost in transit, only Parcel packages.)

We can tack you onto the end. I need to scour this thread for the current and complete list. I feel like it's expanded since the one that was on page 1.

E-mail Eric Hendrickson. Include the SN and let him know that this is one he repaired for David Hancock earlier this year. Ask if there are any resolutions you can do at home or if it needs to go back in for repair. It's a distinct possibility something as jostled in shipping. If it needs a repair, we will probably need to proceed sans TTL metering and deal with a repair when it gets back to U.S. soil.

Pentax ZX-60 with SMC Pentax-F 35-70mm zoom Asking Price
15.00 USD Item Location
Denver, CO (United States) Item Description
I'm selling a Pentax Zx-60 with a Pentax-F 35-70mm lens. The asking price includes shipping in the U.S. For overseas buyers, the price will be the shipping cost. The camera's functions tested out but I did not run film through it. The lens is in good condition and functions properly. The ZX series is known as problematic, so if you buy this, buy it for the lens and enjoy the ZX-60 if it works with film. Are you the original owner of the item being sold?

I got to use the 50mm for another dog shoot today. Here's a black lab mix named Baxter (and some non-dog photos first.): |

Definitely. I keep about 10% of the bird shots I take on a good day. Typically with shows like Axel running, I would set to manual, set my focus point, set up a shot with him running toward the camera, burst shoot starting before he arrived at the focus point, and then do that five or six times to get one or two good shots. But, I don't want people to think that because I could use AF with this lens to get some good action shots that's a panacea for all the challenges in action photography.

That was one of a series of about 12 shots. More were in focus than with screw-drive lenses, but it wasn't quite batting 500.

For stills, this lens is amazing. Here are some from a recent shoot for a local dog rescue (Mile High German Shorthair Pointer Rescue) |

I had a chance to photograph some colleagues at a work event last night. Light (for all but the last shot) was bounce flash off the ceiling. Post work was fairly minimal, some contrast reduction and dodging out shadows around a couple of peoples' eyes. Here are some of the shots with which I'm happy.
He wanted a rougher-looking, grittier photo. We also did a more lighthearted photo, but I like how this one turned out.
These were some of the best, but all around, a generally decent evening.

Actually, one thing that makes me think that it's a mechanical issue with the lens is that it's unpredictable. Sometimes the aperture pops open and then immediately shut (this is uncommon). Most of the time when it happens it opens and then doesn ot close until I change settings on the camera. This happens anywhere from 3 to 9 minutes into a video. One time, the lens held the aperture shut for 11 minutes.
So it's not reliably predictable.

Which is totally cool. I just would like them to say 'hey, we need to replicate this. Can you give us a couple months to see what's going on?' But being ignored makes it feel like they hope I'll just give up and live with equipment that doesn't work correctly.

Still waiting on a response from Ricoh following the latest firmware update. Nothing and it's been eight days since I follow up, and I haven't heard anything from then since April 25. Won't lie, this is starting to make me a bit unhappy.

That'll do it. IIRC,SHD likes more neutral-result developers like D-76+5. I haven't make my All About Film YouTube video on it, but I've shot around with it a bit and tried some different developers.
