Loving my new pentax K3, but there is something that is driving me crazy.

Why is it that everytime I turn off the camera, when I turn it on again, all the pictures I take are stored in a new folder.

I always end up with lots of folders on my sdcard.. This is not the same procedure my old K-30 used to do!!!

I've checked the menu and all seams ok.

Updated to 1.02 and still the same.

Any thoughts?

K3 or Canon 6d - That is the question

I do agree that some grain in an image, is not the biggest problem. For all of you to understand, i atach this photo wich I find to show the type of shooting I try to get.

I agree that the picture taht was shown was not the best regarding the noise, and I guess some of us where talking about it.. But pease don't get mad at anyone. Some people expect something from their photos and some other choose some other things..

It's the same with cameras. Some people want a trully fast AF, others prefer good lens and others 380panorama :)

What I am trying to understand, is if the global quality of the camere is more or less the same, or if the Pentax is way ahead!
I must say at this point, I am trully very inclined to the Pentax K3. I have a chance of getting a 16-35 f2.8 lens at a nice price, and maybe will go for it with the K3, althoug it will be kind of very similar to the 18-135wr, and make my da*55 1.4 a bit put on the side!

I know there is no perfect camera, and I can not have both worlds, but right now, I am just trying to get the most bang for the buck!!!

K3 or Canon 6d - That is the question

I don't know if that is a big contradiction. I believe that even the 24-105f4 lens on the 6D is not the fastest lens, but it will hold up better than the 18-135 that goes super fast to 4.5 or 5.6 as the mm increase.. And the ability to have bigger ISO at the 6d might make a diference. Not ot mention the 24mm vs the 28mm (18 converted to ff) on the K3.

Still, one 50mm 2.0 or 1.8 lens canon is a LOT cheaper than one from pentax, and for the same lenght, I would have to buy the 35mm from sigma...

Will have toi hold both in my hands to get a feel..

I do agree with 2 or 3 things the PENTAX is WAY ahead:
1) wheather sealed. Holidays at the beach where never that good without worries
2)size and weight are a lot better. I don't know if I want to carry a big and bulky camera with me all the time
3) no flash - As weak as a internal flash is, it is a big diference when you just want it to fill in the shades...

K3 or Canon 6d - That is the question

Kind of.. The 551.4 is a bit long for indoor pictures at family gatherings.. The 24mm woul rock a bit more than the 18mm (equals a 28mm).

I have been thinking the K5IIs, as it is very very cheap now!

I will try to do some shooting with the 6d this afternoon and get a feel for the camera.. I know it is lighter than the K3, but that 24-105lens is a lot heavier than the 18-135..

I have a confused mind about my own christmas present!!!

But, please keep telling me your thoughts.. Many thanks all

Sorry for the mistake.. Will correct it right away.
Well you are right for the price, but if I sell my 18-135wr lens and the da* 1.4, I think I might have to put some 200 or 300 more.. I can live with that, and just one lens :) That was my math.. :)

K3 or Canon 6d - That is the question

So, I had a Pentax K30 that fell to the ground. The insurance company will give me the money of the body, so I lose no money here.

But I will have to buy another body. as everybody else, I got really excited with the new K3, but I can't seam to get past that for the same price, I can get The Canon 6d (FF), body only.

Even with the lens, the Canon 6D with the 24-105L f4.0 lens is at almost the same price as the K3 with the 18-135wr lens.

I have already a 18-135wr lens, so I can buy the body only. Or I can go Canon and sell the 18-135wr and the Da*f1.4 I also have..

My question is, and because I really love taking pictures indoor with no flash (And did this with the k30), will the 6d be alot better than the K3?
My biggest issie is that FF might be a lot better for this kind of fotography..

Any thoughts?

So, I am starting to believe the problem lies in the body of the K-30.. .Anyone heard something like tis before??

The +1.7ev in because I always try to expose to the right. I might have had that setting on when taking the pictures, BUT, the setting would be the same for both pictures..
As for the background blur, I didn't make the math, but believing you are right, how can I defenetly test it?

Thanks

ps. thinking of giving th k30 to my girlfriendf and getting a k5II to me. The k-3 is a lot of money. For that, I can get a FF from another brand... The k-5II, is it worth the extra punch?? Priorities to me are:
Low light photography (indor and I hate flash)

Thanks all for you guesses..

Well, it is not really the lens, as using my 18-135wr lens hs donne the same thing.

There is no change in the sound the camera does while taking the shots. One is not really any faster than the other, or at least something you could guess from hearing it...

I am thinking it mught be a problem with the body, but it is not everytime, and I never know when it will happen.
Will try with aa batteries, as these where all taken with the standard batery. I know it should not make a diference, but who knows? That's one more guess..

Tnaks

Just checked the lightroom catalog to look, and the same has happened with the 18-135 WR lens also.
Funny that the first picture is always the darkest...

And if the camera is shooting without knowing the correct exposure, sometimes it could overexpose the first and not underexpose.

CAn it be a camera thing??

Zorza

ps. thank to all for your inputs.. :)

1) meetring is in center weight, not spot.
2) I am using s 55mm da* . BOth pictures taken at f1.4
3)Never thought that could be possible to happen, How can the camera fire without knowing how to fire?
4) I think this will be it :)

This has hapenned to me some times before, but I now have saved th epictures to get a second opinion..

The 2 pictures where taken at the same time, in the same second, whitout changing any setting on the camera. There where no chabges in the lighting in the room. So, if nothing changed, if I did not change anything on the camera, and you can check the settings are the same, why is one picture so dark???

Just one small correction: The Weather Sealing on the lens is called WR and not WS. It stands for Weather Resistant. - BUT, it means the same thing, just don't go google pentax ws lens :)

So, we yesterday it was our first Color Run in Oporto, Portugal.
My pentax was right on it with the 18-135mm wr lens.

Here are some pictures taken with them.. Of course, the last one was not taken with it, but was taken with my small Panasonic LX3. After that picture, just went to the bathroom, opened the water, not too cold, not too hot, and put the camera under the tap.. 15seconds and it was looking new!!!
It was such a reliefe to be totally surrounded by color powder and not to worry a bit about the camera and lens.. I do have one thing to say.. I really needed a wider field of view AND a WR lens.. What are my options??

Well, he was using a 16-35mm with a fixed f2.8 A very good lens.. (and expensive as hell)!!

But at the start it is only f2.8 to f3.5 diference for my kit lens.. It that a that big diference?

I have to get back there and try the 55da* F1.4

You are right.. If only the lens had the numbers on it for me to see the 15 or the infinity sign :) That is the main problem.. :)

Hi.. I was using the kit lens at 18mm wich are f3.5.

I did not try to use my 55da* f.14 because I needed the 18mm wide.. One thing, neither of these lens have numbers on them to try to set the focus manually to a certain distance. And I coulnd not find if infinity was all the way to the right.. Some lens it is a little bit febore the end.

The Sony was getting focus. His pictures where focused and when pressing teh shutter, he got the green square giving focus.

I was using one centre point af, and the switched to 5point to see if the camera could give me some more...
Which do you think is the most accurate? how many of them are cross type?

Even in live view, wich the focus turns to Contrast AF, it wouldn't focus.. It was do dark it was no contrast so start with..

I was out last night doing some pictures of a ship that during a storm last month has landed on a beach some miles away from my home.

I was with a friend that has a sony alpha55 camera..

There was no light but the one from the moon, wich is ofcourse very very dim.

The problem was the sony was not having problems getting focus and on the K-30, i had to do it manually, and that was trial and error, with 30seconds exposure... The light was so dark, i couldn't see anything with the focus peaking on!!!
That was ok, because there was really no light, but WHY did the sony get focus so good and quickly??? Was that some setting on my camera?
I was using f8.0 to get everything better in focus even if the focus was not spot on, as a safe measure!

Wich is the best setting for a trying to get focus on a low light environmment??

ps. here is one of the pictures
