Do you want another bridge camera from Pentax ?

In the last years I used mostly Canon 6D, a good camera. But 6 month ago I have bought a bridge camera, a second hand Nikon P900, for my planespoting passion. This camera became the every day camera for me, because of the its weight, a little over 2 pounds. Of course, the quality is behind to that of Canon 6D, but is really good for daily photography, thanks to an amazing optics, for a 83X zoom. And is not the last generation, or the last technology. So, I think that is room for a bridge camera of this kind.

Pentax is in a good position to start a ML production very quickly, compared with Nikon. Long experience with IBIS, for both APS-C and FF, experience with adaptor from K mount lenses to ML camera, and even the Q camera experience.

There was a problem with sensors, but now Pentax can take sensors from Towerjazz, like Nikon did it, with good results.

About the slow pace of lenses realise in the late one year or two, I had seen some discution on this forum. A good reason would be that the efort was directed to ML lenses.

So, I would not be surprised if we will see some new Pentax ML cameras next year, both FF and APS-C.

Lets remember that Pentax was the 3rd camera manufacturer some years ago. Next, the 4th, and now, Fuji, Olympus and Panasonic, all have more modern cameras than Pentax. And if somebody is not bothered if Pentax will compete with Lomo, I am not with him.

I think and hope that Pentax can do much better than today.

Everyone here seems to think that Pentax will be happy to be left alone, as the only one manufacturer without a competitive mirrorless camera. I think that your are wrong. Maybe I am wrong, but I think that Pentax is already working in that field. And the fact that they didn't realise no new DSLR in the last period is a sign. And those statements made by Pentax representatives reminds me about other statements, about FF camera, before the release of K1. More, even this discution is similar with those about the necessity, or not, of a FF camera in Pentax line, in that time.

And, most probably, I will receive a lot of flak now, as I did then, when I said, ''FF or dead''.

Would be very interesting to see the results at the end of the survey. Now, I am no: 1182, but i think the this number will grow a lot more.

Anyway, a very interesting survey. But a little late. Because, just today, SonyA73 was launched. I hate this camera design, but I love the specifications.

Does IBIS affect precise focusing and exposure metering?

I don't own any Olympus camera, so I am not a fanbuy of this brand. But I have seen a lot of long exposures taken by different peoples, up to 6 seconds handheld. Anybody interested in photography in general, not only in praising Pentax cameras, can find out searching the net.

IMHO, everyone would make himself a service if will stop thinking in term of, ''My camera brand is better than any other in universe''. Yes, the camera I own is good for me as long as it serve me well. But is not the best camera because I own it. To say this means to lie to myself.

And to make everyone here happy, yes, OIS is better than IBIS.:p

When you can take a long exposure shot, of 2-3 or even 5 seconds, handheld, does the power drain counts? It is obvious that you must be prepared for this.

But you are missing the point. Is not about the brand. Is about the advances that are made in technology, that are good for the users, and can be replicated by Pentax, if they want.

This thread is very funny. Why?

Take a long lens, 300mm or more. Set the focusing on a the central point only. And set the exposure in the spot mode. Look for an airplane above you, high in the sky, at great distance, in the day time, when the sky is blue. Take your Pentax camera, set the focal lenght at max, and take a number of shots of the plane. Maybe you will not see the differences in the very first shots. But after ten or less, you will notice that Pentax beggins to lose the exposure. and sometimes, the focus. In reality, the camera will keep the exposure and focus correctly, but your hands will betray you, and you will lose that small object which give the right exposure and focus, And if you dare to repet this test with a good stabilized lens from Canon or Nikon, anybody will see the truth with his own eyes.

So, the IBIS is good, but not in every occasion. Overall, the optical stabilization is better, makes the camera easier to use, because the image in the viewfinder does not shakes, but makes lenses more expensive. Especially when the lens has 2 levels of stabilization, for general, and for panning.

Surely, the best system is one with both, IBIS and OIS, like in Olympus OM 1 mark 2, which make handheld shots of several second possible. Saddly, Pentax is ignoring this solutions.
