WR doesn't really change anything about the size or the aesthetics of the lens. Take a look at the DFA 100 Macro. It's WR, has a build virtually identical to the limiteds, and yet is easily the smallest lens in its class. Heck, it's even slightly smaller than its non-WR predecessor with the same optical design! There is simply no downside to WR, besides cost.
As for AF, screw drive performance is determined by the camera body of course, but the DC motor found in the DA 18-135 is truly a wonder. It's very fast, quiet and deadly accurate; never, ever have I gotten an out of focus shot with that lens (except when fallling victim to the K-5's excessively large focusing points). Also, decoupling the focusing ring from the AF system allows them to arbitrarily change the tactile feel of the ring. IMO the Sigma 35 and DA* 55, both with in lens motors, have nicer feeling MF rings than any screw drive lens I own.
The only potential downside to in lens AF would be added weight and size (and again cost), but many newer lenses like the Olympus 12mm f/2 are downright tiny (slightly smaller than the DA 15), and still manage to have an ultrasonic motor, a nice feeling MF ring (though focus by wire) and a full metal build. You can have small size, classic build, nice MF, and in lens motor all at the same time (but not cheap price sadly).

Not allowed a social networking profile? That's just sad. Sure, you can choose to work for a company that restricts you, but you are saying that their policy is acceptable. I don't see why posting on here is much different, but I guess with an anonymous profile you can say whatever you want.
Ned should not be restricted about talking Leica or whatever else he wants to talk about, unless his blog was hosted on pentaximaging.com or another official place for Pentax.
You lost me after posting Ned's photo here without his permission.
I disagree. We don't need more of what presumably is your business style with companies that apply personal restrictions.

No more dear Pentax threads I think.
Dear Ricoh,
As you can see, your price increases are really unpopular.
Frankly, the 50-135mm is really not worth that much,
Frankly, your the 60-250 is not worth that much.
and the 16-50mmm, thats a joke, the optical performance of that lens is a joke compared to similar offerings, especially at the new price.
Before Hoya, the price was really the key selling point. A bunch of good lenses for a low price,
During Hoya, the prices rose beyond the simple Yen strength,
Now, you must be kidding yourselves,
I am not leaving, I can not afford to buy a new system at the moment, but I will not be buying anything new and Pentax branded. for a while I think.
I think Pentax really had a shot at the number 3 slot, if they stayed with their pre Hoya pricing.
Pre hoya pricing, + K-5, + FF upgrade path, would really have made an impact on the scene.
Now Pentax is behind Nikon, Canon, Sony, FUJI, Olympus, Panasonic, and probably soon Samsung.
You wanna price yourselves out.
It just means that we will stick to our old equipment until we give up, move on, forget.
There are no lenses in your roster that live up to the Super Takumars and FA* lens systems of the day, priced well, performed great. Whenever I use my 50-135mm, I am always afraid it will break. really speaks of star quality, But at least it did not cost an arm and a leg.
I hope you are either planning to price these lenses out and update them, or that its simply a bad joke.
Either way, get over yourselves, your just a company trying to get my money, and now your overpriced.

I got a better one: water. That tech must have been even more readily embraced - it cannot take long for the majority to get thirsty and give up and start drinking it. And without water to put out the fire, nobody could have dared play with that brand new fire tech.

For all you Pentaxians tempted to switch, I say go for it. You only live once!
I'll keep the light on here. You'll recognize me by my ridiculous yellow brick camera and oddly numbered primes.

I enjoyed reading the Adorama review, if for nothing else then that it was a good length of material on opinions on the use of the camera and how it functioned for them. I've ordered a Q since there is no dealer here that carries the camera for me to have tested first, but I think it will suit my needs.
About the images on the Fashion Week review, they aren't all the best photographs I've ever seen but that wasn't the cameras fault. There were some very nice photos that were taken and some photos just for fun. I believe the person was just taking photos here and there because it was fun to take photos with that camera. I've taken better photographs with a 2 megapixel camera that's 10 years old and there are people who can take breathtaking photos with an iPhone. I'm sure we all agree that it's the person behind the camera that makes the difference. If these photos were shot with a K-5, would they be any better? They'd just have more pixels to work with and may be a bit more sharpness to them or even better color, but they'd still be the same image.
I think we have to step back a bit and realize most of the general populace, including amateur photographers in different industries, don't care about image quality as much as we do. I'm not saying it's not important, it is, but I think we're reaching a point where most cameras on the market more then adequately meet the needs of everyone. The cellphone camera has been shown to be "good enough" and most people are uploading 5 megapixel images on Facebook only to be re-sized down to less then 640x480 in size and are quite happy with the results. Most cameras and even cell phones have enough resolution to easily print 8x10's or a bit larger if need be in very good quality. When was the last time someone put their 12 megapixel at 100% view for anything other then editing or looking at image quality. Most compact camera images viewed at NORMAL sizes, i.e. at 50-25% of the original sizes image, look great. No one puts a 4000x3000 pixel image at 100% crop as their desktop background( most consumer monitors only go to 1920x1200) . Again, I'm only talking about 90% of the users out there. For a professional, having the higher image quality is important in-case the image needs to be cropped.
The number one complaint I hear from people who have compact cameras when wanting to upgrade is they wish they could get better photos without flash. I've heard the Fuji X100 does a a very good job at judging the flash exposure for a photo and would like more manufactures to focus on things like this that effect the average user on a daily basis.
I think the the positive feeling most of the reviewers are giving to the camera comes from the design and ease of use of the camera to get the types of photos they are looking for. Having a tool that works with you rather then against you is very valuable and worth more then one that is a struggle to use everyday. I hope I can confirm this when I get my Q in a few days.

Oh my LORD, Jay. I'll know I've reached my personal photography-chops goal when I can visualize light like you do. You're my "light is magic" idol :D (and the "tornado light" on your flowers - definitely one of the eeriest lights known to man, I've been in a few of those *shudder*)
arpaagent - gorgeous portrait! A perfect use of a wide portrait effect, I really like the feel of this pic.
Downfall, these blown-out flower photos really capture me. This is my fave so far:
Emacs - light & composition are lovely!
MikeSF, what a gorgeous shot. The almost candy-toned colors are really different from usual landscape color schemes. How long were the exposures on this pano? It's just the right amount of soft blur, really otherworldly!
Our continued lack of summer (until *this weekend*) has left me uninspired to shoot, so it's been a while! But I did a portrait session yesterday and got some good ones. We were at a beach near the BNSF tracks, and I caught a companion shot to my chocolate-tinted train shot from last year:
Sidelined cars on the BNSF:
My photoshoot was for "babies of the family." Once again, we were out at high noon *sigh* Well, there's only so much you can do when trying to assemble more than 10 people! This time (thank goodness) I'm shooting with the K5 and all my highlight clipping problems from the previous shoot with the K-x were no more. Man I love the K5 FA43 combo - it's the perfect "do everything" lens. I did the whole session with the 43 - group shots, close ups, head shots. It can do no wrong! Unless you forget what f-stop you're on *cough* which I may have done right at the end, when my brain pan was baked by sun :D I was shooting as if f8, when really I was f2 - quite a few missed focus shots from quick re-compositions. Sigh.
Here's Grandpa putting sunblock on baby. Love this shot:
Baby had never seen sand or beach before - she was constantly diving for the glinting quartz crystals! Not even my mistaken f2 missed focus point could change the charm of this photo :) |

This must be the final draw for you Ogl :p
Its amazing that you just dont sell your Pentax and buy another brand camera!
I actually admire your persistance and that you still stay with Pantax with all the negative feelings you have for it. You must be rally stuborn! How do you do it?
I would never do it if i had your feelings, i would just move on to what makes me happy!
Ogl! Move on! For your own good mate. There are other cameras and brands out there.
All this, i say with a :) because im a kind person that wants everyone to be happy. I want you to be happy!
