I have been reading the Kindle version for a while, it is very well laid out. I almost always have my Kindle with me, so this is very useful. Thank you for doing this.
The only negative thing for me is that I have the Kindle Paperwhite, no color.

Poll: Do you put Pentax weather resistance to the test? Best of Pentax Forums Jan 31 poll

When I decided to move from Canon & L lenses I looked at most of the current camera brands and decided on Pentax because of the weather resistance of the body and lenses. My first was the K-5 & 18-135 WR lens, and continually moved up from there. When my granddaughter was playing rugby I think they purposely planned all the games when it was raining, I was there with my Pentax. At least I wasn't as cold & wet as she was. When we took a motorcycle/sidecar trip through Yellowstone National Park, it rained most of the time, again the Pentax stood the test. I thought about selling the 18-135, but when I am out with no place to change lenses, the varied focal lengths are nice. Pentax is a rugged, well-balanced camera system.

I am in the process of changing from Zenfoli to Flickr. This is my first time posting a photo from Flickr to test it. The photo is of one of my wife's wood-turning, her hobby. Taken with the K-3 III and the 16-50 PLM.

I am a little embarrassed about this whole post. The lens and camera are fine, the operator's error was the problem. When doing the fine focus adjustment with Dot -Tune method, you first use live view to obtain critical focus with auto-focus, then you switch to the VF and switch the camera to manual focus to continue. I had left the camera in autofocus and since it was so quiet I never noticed.
I retested the lens properly and everything was as expected. At 16mm & 3 feet, the end adjustment was +3. At 50mm & 8 feet, the end adjustment was -2. I compromised the two values at 0.

I do have a hearing test scheduled in two weeks. Here in NE Wyoming, there is supposed to be some warmer weather next week, hopefully, I can get outside.

No, I don't know which solenoid was used. I just sent it off and it came back working great. Shortly after that, I got my first KP.

Also, I just reduced the price to $225.00

I also have the DA* 55/1.4, purchased it new in 2018 from B&H. I thought I would be using it a lot more for portraits, but ended up only a few times a year. I never had a problem with the SDM drive. Because of its size if I want to use a prime in that focal length I usually either use my FA 50mm F2.8 macro or a zoom. Although the 55*/1.4 has beautiful results.

Adobe Denoise in Lightroom

I did some more experimenting with both the new LR Denoise and Topazlabs Denoise. Before I had done some processing to the raw files before running them through the different denoise programs. This time I started with zero processing and obtained different results. I used the suggested settings in both Topazlabs Denoise and LR Denoise (50%). This time the results were much better for both programs. After processing both files were processed in the LR Develop, with sharping added to the LR file. Since the LR file is a DNG I was able to add Lens profile settings, which you can't do with the Topaz TIFF files. Results, both were pretty much identical, some photos looked slightly better in LR, and others in the Topaz tiff file looked slightly better, neither one enough for me to worry about. In both files, some parts looked slightly better/worst in different parts of the picture, but only noticeable if both are side by side in the compared view. When taking the different photos I took DNG plus Jpeg, with the in-camera anti-noise settings turned on for auto settings. I processed the jpegs the same as the dng files, plus adding a little sharpening and noise reduction in the LR develop section. The jpegs actually looked pretty good after a little processing, but you do lose color correction if the light changes. I will still continue using the DNG files for the ability to correct color.
For me and what I expect I will continue to use LR Denoise when needed, but for light stuff just use LR manual mode for noise reduction.

Cold issues?

I also have had my Pentax cameras outside in below-freezing weather. Other than the shortened battery life no problems. The one thing I do when I am ready to go back into a warmer environment I remove the SD card and place my camera gear in a sealed plastic bag until it has warmed up. I don't want condensation inside the gear.

For me, with the KP I like the DA20-40. If portraits I use either the DA35 macro or DA55 1.4. An example was a community Christmas party using the 20-40. I set up Godox flashes where Santa would be for those pictures and used auto iso for the rest of the photos as I roamed around the room. I use the Flashpoint (Godox) R2 Pro II Wireless Trigger so I could turn the flashes on or off as needed.

Game Pentax Gnome - will travel

I received the little Gnome & camera from Michael and took some pictures around Wyoming. We took pictures of "Devil's Tower", and scenes in Cheyenne, Wyoming. Cheyenne has large boots scattered around town. Also a picture of the Gnome in front of the Wyoming State Museum and the state capital building. Also a steer rider monument.
My wife had a business meeting in Cheyenne, so I thought it would be a good place for the Gnome. I wanted more but snowstorms prevented it. Right now we are stuck in Cheyenne, all the roads going north are closed because of the weather.

I have traveled that road many times via motorcycle, beautiful sights. Since there might be a little rain, the 18-135 is a good choice. A few years ago I took a ride through Yellowstone for a week and had several lenses but because of the wet weather, the 18-135 stayed on the camera the whole trip. Bring a tripod if you have space.

My Pentax cameras didn't give a focus beep either but I still had the green hexagon illumination, Then I happened to mention it to my wife and she assured me that the camera beeps every time. I couldn't hear it. So I turned it off in the menu, no since bothering other people. Some day I will have to get hearing aids.

Thoughts on DFA*50 1.4 vs DA*55?

There is a DA *55 for sale in the Marketplace, which might be of interest. The price has been dropped to $325 dollars. I know nothing of the lens or seller.
I do have the DA *55 that I use with my KP. I don't use it a lot, but it does take wonderful pictures. As others said, the focus is slow but good enough for me.

I will second the recommendation of the "Flashpoint" rebranded Godox flashes & triggers from Adorama. I had to call their customer support twice and each time I was immediately connected to a very knowledgeable person who walked me through my problem (user error).

Clean those contacts

This is embarrassing to admit, but I might not be the only one. A few weeks ago I was asked to take pictures at a community Christmas party event. I set up my Godox flashes & KP where the children & Santa would be and elsewhere in the room I just used auto ISO with no flash. Worked great. Last week I was going to use flash on another event, but the flash was unreliable. Sometimes they work, sometimes not. Same problem with the wireless trigger. I finally went without flash, but later tried to figure out what the problem was. I read the manuals again, watch YouTube videos but nothing worked. FINALLY, my brain kicked in and I thought maybe it's just dirty contacts for the flash. A little alcohol swab on the camera flash mount and flashes and all is well. I should have thought of this to start with, would have saved me a few hours of frustration.

For me, I am a photographer who is also a grumpy old man. I still get down on the ground with my KP, but I have to lay down and because of physical limitations it's a struggle getting back up. And being 76 yoa it's not getting any easier.

DA 18-135 WR, Show us what it can do

Yes, I have to agree. A few weeks ago I got back from a mission trip to India and I took the 18-138mm along with some primes. Used one prime once, the rest of the time it was the 18-135mm because it was so versatile. I was in rapidly changing conditions and just not practical to be changing lens on the go. It was a mission trip so photography was not the primary purpose. I would have liked a faster lens at times to isolate the subject, or in some of the poorly lit buildings we visited. Also, it was the rainy season, but it never rained on us. Just 90 plus degrees (F) and matching humidity.

This first one is me with my 13 yoa body guard, translator and guide. We were staying in a rural area and she would walk with me when I went on self guided walks around the area.

This last one was taken with the DA 15mm F4 lens.

It would be nice if different adjustments could be stored for both ends of a zoom lens. For example fr a 70-200 if one adjustment setting could be stored for 70mm and another for 200mm.

JPEG style closest to RAW

I shoot raw but have jpeg set to a flat profile so I can better see blown highlights in the lcd viewing. If using the Natural profile the lcd view might indicate a blown highlight when it really isn't. The negative part of this is when someone wants to view the lcd to see the picture and think that is how the final picture will be, not understanding the reason for the flatness of the photo.
