Rokinon 14mm - how bad is it decentered?

Don't give up. I had one a few years ago, purchased from B&H. The first one was decentered and returned to B&H. The second one was good, no problems at all. I did replace it with a Sigma 10-20mm F/3.5 EX DC HMS.

I have been reading the Kindle version for a while, it is very well laid out. I almost always have my Kindle with me, so this is very useful. Thank you for doing this.

For color accuracy also calibrate your computer monitor if you can. My wife and I use laptops and we notice a very slight difference between my Asus and her Dell. Of course, I think the Asus is more correct, but she doesn't agree :rolleyes:

Advice on headshots in mediocre lighting

All good suggestions. One thing I would add is if they are wearing eyeglasses check to see if the glass lenses are reflecting into the camera. If you see reflections just have the subject slightly change his head angle, or slightly move/tilt the glasses on their head. Or just remove the glasses.

Poll: Do you put Pentax weather resistance to the test? Best of Pentax Forums Jan 31 poll

When I decided to move from Canon & L lenses I looked at most of the current camera brands and decided on Pentax because of the weather resistance of the body and lenses. My first was the K-5 & 18-135 WR lens, and continually moved up from there. When my granddaughter was playing rugby I think they purposely planned all the games when it was raining, I was there with my Pentax. At least I wasn't as cold & wet as she was. When we took a motorcycle/sidecar trip through Yellowstone National Park, it rained most of the time, again the Pentax stood the test. I thought about selling the 18-135, but when I am out with no place to change lenses, the varied focal lengths are nice. Pentax is a rugged, well-balanced camera system.

I think you got your memory cards mixed up. The EXIF on the photo indicates the photo taken with the KP and the DA* 16-50mm lens.

I have the DA*55 and the DA35 macro. For the DA*55 everything that JensE said. I don't use mine nearly as much as I thought I would, it's a great lens, I just don't use it wide open too much. I find myself using my FA 50mm F2.8* macro for that focal length because of its smaller size.
I use the DA35 for product photos and landscapes. I like its sharpness and rendering.

Portraiture / event lens

I don't shoot very many portraits or events. My last has been for events at our Community Center here in town. Because it its high iso capabilities the KP with the 20-40 gave me good results without using a flash, just auto iso on camera. I did not want to be changing lenses. Now with the K3 III it's and the DA*16-50 PLM it is even better. One problem with the Community Center was the different lighting. It was two large rooms, each with a different kind of ceiling lighting. I took a white/gray card photo in each room so I could adjust the white balance later. I also used auto iso on the camera because of the changing lighting and fast fluid action. For a dedicated portrait shot location I used two light stands with remote camera trigger that I could turn on or off only when taking an actual portrait, only changing the camera user mode. I use Godox trigger & flashes.
This worked for my uses.

Not sure what I am using, I believe it was what Flickr calls the "large" size. When I posted from Zenfoli I always used 2000X for the long side. It's going to take a long time to recreate on Flickr most of what I had at Zenfoli, but it gives me a chance to re-organize albums.

I am in the process of changing from Zenfoli to Flickr. This is my first time posting a photo from Flickr to test it. The photo is of one of my wife's wood-turning, her hobby. Taken with the K-3 III and the 16-50 PLM.

K3 Mk3 and DA* 16-50mm f/2.8 ED PLM focus

I am a little embarrassed about this whole post. The lens and camera are fine, the operator's error was the problem. When doing the fine focus adjustment with Dot -Tune method, you first use live view to obtain critical focus with auto-focus, then you switch to the VF and switch the camera to manual focus to continue. I had left the camera in autofocus and since it was so quiet I never noticed.
I retested the lens properly and everything was as expected. At 16mm & 3 feet, the end adjustment was +3. At 50mm & 8 feet, the end adjustment was -2. I compromised the two values at 0.

I do have a hearing test scheduled in two weeks. Here in NE Wyoming, there is supposed to be some warmer weather next week, hopefully, I can get outside.

Thank you all for the replies. I am going to work with the lens for a while. Maybe I am doing something wrong, I use the DOT-Tune method to check a lens (

Later today I am going to get my KP out of retirement and try the lens on it. The lens was purchased from B&H, so no problems if I have to return it.

K3 Mk3 and DA* 16-50mm f/2.8 ED PLM focus

I just received the DA* 16-50mm f/2.8 ED PLM lens to go with my K3 III and have a question about "fine focus lens adjustment." When I first received the K3 I performed the fine focus adjustment on my existing lens and was surprised that a few of the lenses needed more adjustment than was needed with my KP. However, all of these lenses on the K3 could be adjusted between the parameters of the camera's adjustment. With the new 16-50mm PLM at both 16mm and 50mm, it showed a confirmed focus from -10 to +10, I left it at "0". The test was performed at F2.8, 16mm at 3 feet, and the 50mm at 8 feet, tripod used of course. My other lenses in this focal range do not have this spread of adjustment. The initial photos all are very sharp, no complaints about the end results.
Has anyone else noticed this with the DA* 16-50mm f/2.8 ED PLM?

On a side note, when I first used the 16-50 I thought the auto wasn't working, there was no noise. So I focused on something further away and it immediately snapped into focus. Back to a closer object and immediately, silently, snapped into focus. I might need hearing aids, which is what my wife tells me.

Lightroom new Denoise tool

I have used the new LR Denoise with my KP and found it works best on high-iso photos if done before any other edits, especially sharpening or LR original denoise. Br default LR wants to add a little sharpening, slide that slider back to zero before applying the new LR Denoise
With my K3 Mk3 the LR Denoise does not seem to work at all. Topaze Denoise works on my K3 Mk3 files just fine, although I am finding high iso files with the Mk3 need far less processing than with the KP.

Godox/Flashpoint V1 sale today

I have two Flashpoint copies of the V1 and am very pleased with the Flash. The Flashpoint copy sold by Adorama has a different mount attachment which I believe is easier to use than the Godox brand. I did have trouble matching the radio trigger, flash, and camera to work together. But a call to the Adorama help desk was answered immediately and they quickly solved my problem.

I have two of these, along with the TT350 and they work great. One possible caution while using them they seem a little heavier than the other flashes I have used and "might" have been the cause of the flash mount on one of my KP's cracking. Or I might have struck the flash with something, I don't really know. Since then I only use these flashes with the Flashpoint R2 Remote on the camera, or use the TT350 flash which is much lighter.

K3Mk3 or KP

What he said. I owned two KPs and a K-S2 when I purchased a K3 III. I sold the K-S2 and one of the KP's and kept one KP as a backup. I do prefer the KP if shooting from the waist or lower because of the flip-up screen, but other than that I much prefer the K3 III. For me, the photos from the K3 III are much better, especially in low light or interior events without using flash. Also, I like to use "back button focus" and with the KP my fingers always had to search for the focus button, it was not natural like it was on my old K5. With the K3 III the focus button naturally falls under my finger, which is a natural extension. Of course this is different for each person.

The solenoid was repaired by a private party. See the link below for further information. I do not know how the repair was done, I had assumed it was a solenoid that was replaced. I didn't know at the time it could be sanded down or replaced.
