Thanks! I used to shoot a 30d.. It was a good system, but no weather sealing & no IS made me want to change.
I have a 28 2.8 coming in the mail from ebay this week and am looking forward to it.
Now if Tamron would get their 70-200 2.8 out, I would be all set!

Made the move about 2 weeks ago now from Canon to Pentax. With the exception of the underexposed banding issue, I am extremely pleased. Images right off the card are crisp and vibrant and the used glass out there is great. My 50mm 1.7 looks like a good copy (I just need to practice manual focusing..)
Got out today and went shooting for the first time (other than some snap shots)..
These were taken w/ the 16-45, 50-200 and the 50 1.7. Nothing spectacular, but had fun and enjoyed my K10!
Just thought I'd share! :) |

Oooh...that looks nice. Anyone know if it is showing up in the US? I would consider it over the Tamron 70-200 2.8 if the IQ is better...
I just wish Tamron would get their dates lined up for when the 70-200 is going to arrive..

Wanted to get back to everyone regarding the outcome of my exchange. Thankfully, the Wolf camera out here gave me no problems exchanging the original w/ a replacement.
In response to some posts about the image being underexposed, the are absolutely right. I agree, the image is very under exposed..however where I came from (Canon 30d) this would not be an issue. Yes, there would have been noise and yes it would have probably required post processing to clean it up. However, the pattern is what made me upset with the situation.
I am not saying the 30d is a better body, I did change to the Pentax for a number of reasons (IS in the body, the weather sealing, cost saving on glass compared to replacing lenses to IS version etc)
I have taken more test shots, and when properly exposed, the pattern is not there. If underexposed, I can still see it. If I was planning on shooting night time or gymnasium sports any more, I would probably be switching back to Canon.. However, most of what I derive pleasure from is landscape and portrait work which 1600 is not really a necessity.
I am sticking with the K10d in hopes that Pentax will release a firmware upgrade that eliminates this problem. I did send them an email off their support page and have heard nothing back. I am hopeful, at some point they get back to me...
So, I am going to order some new glass tomorrow and am anxiously awaiting the release of the Tamron 70-200 2.8. Amazon has it listed for 699 which is one helluva price..if it is as good as the Canon 70-200 it is replacing.. ;)
Thanks everyone for your feedback and hopefully sometime soon I'll have some images to share!:)

Jodokast96 are you shooting in jpg or raw? My brother has the GX-10 and he tested some low light shots in jpg last night @ 1600 and he did not have this issue.. I know the Samsung is different firmware, but I am curious.
Given how severe the banding is, I am going to exchange the body this evening for a new one and see what happens. Mine had the 1.0 firmware on it, so who knows how long it was sitting on the sales floor. Maybe Pentax made hardware changes in later builds..it's worth a try in my mind...
I do work semi pro and regularly shoot in low light. I can't live with these results if they are constant. I will do more testing with the new body in the next day or two including shooting in jpg @ 1600 which I really would prefer not to be shooting in..
Thanks again everyone for the information and I'll report back..

Thanks all for the responses. That image is with absolutely no post processing.
The RAW shot went into Aperture and then exported as a full size jpg.
The body is going back tomorrow for an exchange. I am not ready to write off the K10d yet...

New to the forum and just switched today from a Canon setup to a Pentax K10d due to the feature being so much nicer. Love the body..until I shot @ ISO 1600..
Take a look...
Warning..Relatively large image ahead!! http://www.josefstuartphotography.com/images/pentax/IMGP0062.jpg
Bumped the firmware to the 1.30 version and it makes no difference (didn't think it would, but had to try). Anyone else ever see this before? Looks like a sensor issue, not a processing issue (this was a raw shot converted to a jpg..)
It'll be going back to the store tomorrow and I can find no reference to this kind of a screen door pattern any where on the web..
Thanks for looking! :(
