Again, I hope I didn't come across as bashing the Sigma because I plan on keeping it. Maybe I'm having focusing problems with my particular lens/camera combo. At close distances I'm getting sharp images at all focal lengths, at infinity it gets a little soft. Need to play around some to see if some improvements can be had, if not, it's still a good versatile lens that is quite stylish IMO if that matters.

Maybe I'm creating an excuse to try out that 14mm Bower that's on sale at B&H! :D

I've had the Sigma 17-70mm f2.8-4 C lens for about a week now and there's couple of things I've noticed. The images straight out of the camera aren't as vibrant and the micro contrast is a little weaker than the ones taken with the DA 16-45mm f4. The softness at 17mm is well known, though mine is softer than I expected. I don't mean to knock the lens just some observations. I shoot RAW and enjoy post processing so getting the most out of the Sigma is part of the process. I bought the DA* 16 -50mm f2.8 during black Friday last fall and found it too expensive and heavy for the benefits it offered. I sold the DA 16-45mm f4 to buy the DA*16-50, I kinda miss that lens :(

If your mode dial is set to automatic mode (green square), press the MENU button, go to Rec. mode 3, scroll down to Program Line and press the right four way button then select your preference.

To better control depth of field, Set the mode dial (on top of the camera) to P and use the rear e-dial to adjust your aperture.

Hope this helps.

Hdr1 2 and 3? Or photomatix?

Lifted from another site.
There are four HDR modes to choose from: 'auto' and then 'HDR' 1 - 3. The HDR modes basically control how strong the effect is, with higher numbers being more artistic than realistic. You can also set the interval between the exposures (by using the camera's main dial) from 1EV to 3EV.

It's similar to merging bracketed photos into Photomatix. Although you have less control over final image.

Which camera do you have? It should be referred to as Auto Bracketing or Exposure Bracketing.
For K-5 look on page 157. Hope that helps.

Hello Pentax Forum,
After lurking here for about a month I ordered a K-5 / 18-55 kit and have been using it for a couple of weeks, very happy with it so far.
Was swayed by the compact and rugged qualities and ordered the kit without having the chance to see or handle one.
All the positive comments here are spot on and the negative ones didn't come to the party. Not yet anyway.

I've been using an Olympus Pen E-PL1 that I'll probably keep, might even get a pancake for it. Also have a Panasonic Lumix DMC-TZ4 that my wife confiscated.
The lack of viewfinders are annoying to say the least.
Back in the day I had a Canon AE-1 then a Nikon N2000 so manual focus is not a foreign concept.

I'll probably pick up some vintage glass soon. Hope I don't have LBA already:(
