According to imaging-resource.com K-3 prints (ISO 100/200) are excellent at 30 x 40 inches, wall display prints are possible at 36 x 48 inches.
16MP prints (ISO 80/100/200) are excellent at 24 x 36 inches, wall display images are possible 30 x 40 inches.
Not so big difference by the way :)

When I was choosing one of them, I read a lot from internet and got impression that Tamron is the best. For me the most important parameters were sharpness at tele-end wide open and "pleasing bokeh"(@photozone), so I went to Tamron. I did not try them side by side - so I do not know the truth, but I am very happy with my Tamron. It is also longer, cheaper and lighter.

I just checked - it does work fine with k-r but doesn't work with K-5IIs.

I use DxO and I really like it. Now far I shoot RAW only.
It can correct RAW (distortion, CA, vignetting, noise reduction and sharpness) in two clicks (open RAW - save Jpeg). It has modules not only for Pentax lens (like in-camera conversion) but for third-party lens too (like my beloved Tamron 28-75/2.8).
I also like "natural color, natural tonality" option - finally skin tones and red flowers as they are.
I left Lightroom/Photoshop for heavy editing.

I forgot my k-r on the car hood and it was blown at ~100km/h. It fell harshly on the asphalt between lanes. Lens (Tamron 18-200) was broken. Camera was fine (!!!) except AF Points in viewfinder are not highlighted now (like in k-x). I still use it.
My wife was really impressed by Pentax durability. That is why I bought K-5IIs :)
