Landscape Seacombe Bay at sunset

One of Dorset's most spectacular bays is Seacombe Bay, here portrayed at sunset. It takes a very pleasant 30 min downhill walk to get there, and the place is so amazing that it makes the walk back, all uphill, a breeze! Leica S (Typ 007), Leica Summarit-S 35mm and Formatt-Hitech Firecrest filters.

Thank you for viewing, best regards

I took this on Sunday night with my full spectrum K-01 and an Explore Scientific David Levy Comet Hunter mounted on an iOptron IEQ45 mount. Since I accidentally glued the mode dial when I put it back on it is stuck in M mode, so I could only do 30 seconds. Still, I did 140 of them using the internal intervalometer in the camera and then stacked and processed them. I think it turned out okay, though it could use more integration.

People RIP Brigette: You will be Missed

It' so hard to know what to say - she looks so beautiful here - one can only think what a tragic loss of a young life, and someone who appears to be a natural model and who knows what else she could have been? It's frightening how little we often really know about people who seem to have so much going for them. So sad.

Natalie recently told me that her lovely friend Brigette, who I shot with on a few occasions, passed rather unexpectedly. Was a real shocker to me since I just been talking to her a mere two or three days before. I remember she was so excited for our next shoot, had so many ideas. Always so full of passion for all things creative. She even wanted to do a beach shoot with Natalie who she always looked up to and often went to for advice. Makes me tear up just thinking about it all. Anyway I figured I would share some of her shots here in memory of the short time I got to spend with her.

Does the adobe dfa 24-70 lens profile introduce or accentuate wavy / moiré patterns?

Moire is the least of your problems with these images, I wouldn't be all that bothered with distortion in them to bother with using the lens profiles.. I think this is a subsampling and noise management issue. If you are using bicubic sharper to downsample your images it will exacerbate any fine patters [such as noise] in the image. For images like this, downsize them using Bicubic smoother, with some mild-strong NR, and a vignette filter with an appropriate amount of green tint to counter the magenta cast would be more effective than relying on canned lens profiles.

When you push things to extremes: be prepared to lower your standards for quality.

haven't done a lot of nightshots. But was satisfied with this one. But not quite sharp around the edges... Two photos combined. One for the road and one for the sky. A little bit fiddely to get it right. Not used to do it. Used a flashlight to lighten up the road.

Sigma 50-150mm f/2.8 II EX DC APO HSM Lens Samples Thread

Somebody in another thread suggested that we start a lens sample thread for the Sigma 50-150mm f/2.8, and I couldn't agree more. Much like its big brother Sigma 100-300mm f4, this is an incredible lens that was tragically discontinued well before its time. It was relatively unknown when it was available, and does not seem to have been manufactured in large numbers. This makes it very hard to find on the used market, and those who own a copy tend to hold onto it. And just like the 100-300mm f4, the value of the 50-150mm seems to have increased since it was discontinued, with used copies fetching higher prices than when they were new.

The Sigma 50-150mm f/2.8 was the only direct competitor to the Pentax 50-135mm f/2.8. These lenses are designed to cover an APS-C sensor, and are meant to be approximately equivalent to using a 70-200mm lens on a full-frame/35mm camera. Both lenses are nearly the same size and weight. Which is to say, they are both much smaller and lighter than the 70-200mm f/2.8 lenses they are designed to emulate.

While the Pentax is a very nice lens and is weather sealed, the Sigma 50-150mm has several advantages. Many people who have had a chance to compare the two lenses have concluded that the Sigma is the sharper lens. The Sigma also has more reach. And what's more, the Sigma is arguably sharper at 150mm wide-open than the Pentax is at 135mm.

But the biggest advantage may lie in the autofocus motor. Both lenses have a silent autofocus motor and allow full-time manual focusing, but the Sigma's HSM is much faster than the SDM in the 50-135mm, making the Sigma a much better choice for keeping up with action. Sigma's HSM also seems to be very reliable in the long term, with very few reports of motor failure. Unfortunately, the same cannot be said of the SDM in the 50-135mm. Based on the number of first-hand accounts and informal poling on this site, failure rates for the 50-135mm are shockingly high.

Before getting to the samples, I'll post a few images with the lens mounted on my Pentax K-x. The K-x has since been replaced by a white K-30, so I may eventually get around to adding some pictures of the lens on my K-30.
