Hey guys
I was looking into buying a fast tele-zoom for my K-01
(buying a 2nd Nikon body & since the 18-35 f1.8 isn't available for pentax yet, it'll be on the Nikon while the longer is, hopefully, covered by the K-01)
I looked into many threads about the issues when using the 70-200 with K-01 Any experience when using a Sigma or Tamron 70-200 with K-01?
Any success stories or at least explanation as to why focus doesn't work on these lenses with K-01?
thanks

Thanks guys :)
I was getting tired of all the conflicting reports when I wrote this
I decided to order a set of V5's & NPT-04 as backup.
NPT-04 received really good replies all over, maybe the longevity was weak but otherwise more than satisfactory
and the Cactus V5 negative comments were usually in the expected botched units
Thanks again for all your input here & otherwise, Pentaxians :)

I'm trigger-shopping for my K-01 speed-light set-up
I need a budget trigger, relatively durable, and be able to use 1/180 shutter speed without flash delay
What came up were the Cactus V5, Yongnuo RF-603 & 602, Cowboy Studio PT-04
Anyway; it's IMPORTANT that I can use 1/180s speed with this trigger without flash-delay
then comes consistency in terms of quality control, then durability (triggers sold locally are all poor & I'll be buying it from overseas; 2nd chances are difficult)
What's your experience & what do you recommend?
V5? YN? Cowboy? or something else?

I see what you mean :) just as I thought
I was interested in this to understand the limitations of the equipment I intend to buy (studying hard; I got it from my mentor :D)
Thanks a million, again, for the thorough posts & links :)

Thanks for the links, dude :)
My point was the flash delay that cuts from the sync speed, the fraction of a second in delay between the transmitter sending the signal & the receiver firing the flash
that's what my mentor was talking about when I asked him about cheap triggers & said that the cheap ones are good for <1/60 shutter speed
So that's what I was asking y'all about here; not whether or not they actually fire them!

HAHA, pretty helpful :)
That's it for HSS
About cheaper triggers: They do fire the flash slower than the shutter at >1/100 or so, don't they?
(FYI: the Cactus V5, after it reaches me here from abroad, will be ~$100 :P)

Nor available here, AFAIK but worth a look-out
but wait, HSS is not possible without P-TTL???
Don't they do it with studio strobes like the Einstein E640 & the Godox AD180 & AD360 bare bulb speedlights? (these are manual flashes)

Hey all,
I'm, like most, starting out on a budget with no problem of using manual flashes.
These, of course, will require radio triggers & when talking about cheap radio triggers with my mentor, he told me about how they have a delay when firing the flash, relative to shutter
I asked him how fast before this fire-lag is noticeable, he said after 1/60 shutter speed!
that's really low imo, esp. when I read a review of a lighting kit on The Phoblographer & they used the cheap Cowboy Studios triggers and said they perform well
Has anyone tried the CBS or Godox cheap (chinese) flash triggers at high shutter speeds? ~ 1/100-1/180?
=====================
Also, what about High-Speed syncing?
Say I want to over-power ambient sun & use 1/1000 shutter speed!
Does the speedlight/strobe have to have high speed sync?
What about the radio triggers?
(I'm using the K-01 btw, if there's anything settings-wise I should be aware of)

UPDATE!
Alright, you have GOT to be f***ing kidding me, Pentax...
The e-dial has a hex-tip that goes into a turning circuit, and moves the circuitry to register your command
I managed to disassemble to the top of my K-01 & took out the e-dial's circuit...
I found out that the hex tip is broken!!
and I recall that when it stopped, I wasn't even turning it roughly (and even if I did!)
Seriously, what the hell?
I bought a Pentax because I know it would last, it could take some rough handling even if it wasn't bullet-proof like the K-30
I can't..this is just...
Ugh :hmm:
I'm keeping calm just to focus on gluing it back together, it's delicate
But I'll be packing a slipper from now on, in case I bump into Pentax's CEO, to lay down the fury upon his hiney!
See that hex-tip protruding from the e-dial?
That's the one that was broken in my K-01
Unbelievable

Yea, renting a DSLR is available; just wanted to use my camera :)
Do you happen to know how to disassemble the top part?
The screws I know (~9x) don't let it come off

I need to remove the top part (containing dials & built-in flash) of the K-01'
I don't care about warrenty or anything, just how to do it?
I tried removing the screws (2x in battery bay, 5x from both strap holes, 2x in flash bay) but nothing

Hey man, I tried with a local electronic contact solution (dry) but to no avail
I applied about 5 times, rotating the dial both ways for a while each time, still nothing
Maybe a higher quality cleaner?...

How do I spary it IN the dial?
There doesn't seem to be quite the clearance, or just spray on top & it'll clean things?

My K-01 is running the latest firmware
Suddenly, while zooming in with the dial (shutter speed & aperture) it stopped
It snaps as usual & no physical difference but settings do not respond anymore
Removing battery & memory card did NOT work
I need serious help as I have 2 shoots tomorrow!
EDIT: I also live in Egypt so not one clue on the possibility of sending it for repair or even where to send it!

Recently, I stumbled upon the "Capture" web-series by Mark Seliger You Tube |
src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/S3eSMVsRqww?controls=1" allowfullscreen> |
I remembered the part of Elements of Photography book that said "more than "how" the photograph was made, we'll talk about "Why" the photograph was made"
As most, I keep a folder (tear sheet) of photographs I liked the most
But it was when I saw & heard photographers talk about their work & journey that I couldn't help but pull out my camera & snap randomly
It was almost a butterflies moment!
Also when I read about Peter Gowland (he was a mad DIY'er as well :P) & Robert Doisneau (my favorite photographer)
their start, their journey, the story behind their photographs...etc, inspiration shoots through my head!
If you haven't watched Capture, I hope you enjoy it :) On-topic: Do you, personally, find it more inspiring when contemplating photographs OR reading about photographers' journey & thought process; the "why" behind their photographs? |
