What Film Bodies Do We All Have

I still have three, a late MZS, a Z1P with data back and a Cosina CS1. The Cosina is the only one that will work without batteries, but the plastic grips have gone sticky. The MZS along with the power grip is fully working, but if I were to sell it, I would have to put at least one film through it first to be sure. The Z1P also works and I prefer it to the MZS as it's controls are much closer to the digital cameras and easier to remember how to use. The data back is of little use as the date programming cannot reach 2023. The common crack in the baseplate has been glued and I have made a permanent repair to the spring in the pop up flash. I also have a Sigma flashgun which I bought many years ago after I had bought my first Z1P new. It Will not work properly with the MZS or the digitals as it was intended for the older autofocus cameras.

picture size mystery

That must have been what happened, I had to look over the camera to find the raw button, which I have never used. I had not deleted the picture and checking information showed RAW (DNG) next to the 2M and 2star. I had difficulties getting the focus optimum and had deleted several attempts so the camera got more handling than usual for just one picture. The 4929 x 3264 is the full sensor sixefor the K5D. I resized the photo in the pc and got it on the website.

Which lens should a beginner get for landscape, sky, nature, flora and fauna?

A difficult question, if you are getting an APSC camera, start with the kit 18-55 lens, it can be used with autofocus and manual focus. Get to know what it can actually achieve before getting any other lenses.

why apsc lenses are best for apsc cameras

The advantage of using full frame lenses on an APSC camera is that the outer parts of the image are not used and most lenses have some drop off of resolution towards the edges. APSC lenses are no exception, but the drop off is still on the sensor area. Modern lenses should have improved antireflection coatings which should give them an advantage in certain lighting conditions. Full frame lenses tend to be larger, but my 16-50 Pentax is no compact lens, and that is an example of zero full frame compatibility.

Sigma 75-300mm lens on Pentax K10D

I have a lot of lenses including a kit 18-55 WR which is a keeper, very good results for a relatively cheap lens, as are all the slight variations. I used to have a Sigma 70-300 APO which was very good, I regret selling it, although it has since been replaced by a Pentax 55-300, which is slightly better. It depends what type of photography you like best, go for the tele zoom first, and then think of something wider than your kit lens. A standard 50mm will give better definition, any one will do although those with the A on the aperture scale are much easier for beginners to use, and autofocus is not essential either.

SD card won't lock into place in KP

I would have tried the packing method before spending a fortune on repairs. I would have tried using the door to hold the card in place, possibly with a little packing stuck inside the door. Good luck with your method, Skolkmeier.

MZS dial problem.

I think I have solved the problem myself, luckily, after googling for any info on the MZS, there was a link to learncamerarepair.com, and I found out how to remove the top cover. I did not detach any of the wiring, but could see the bottom of the rotary switch inside the top cover. Having nothing better, I put a little WD40 into a plastic container and used a little cable tie to administer a tiny ammount to the bearing. Without the service manual I would never had found all the screws holding the top on, one was accessed from the underside of the camera inside the battery compartment. After reassembling everything, I exercised the rotary switch and to my relief it has got a lot easier to rotate.

The advantage with modern digital cameras over film is the ease with which you can experiment from colour to black and white and a multitude of intermediate settings completely cost free.

Da*16-50 2.8 sdm

My copy of this lens is one of the first made and the SDM failed after about 2 years. I followed the video instructions on this forum and dismantled the rear of the lens and used a small JIS crosspoint screwdriver to exercise the SDM motor, it will turn backwards add forwards and then a stop is felt. The screw did not loosen during this proceedure. This fix lasted a few months before the old problem was back. My fix was to dismantle the lens again and drill a hole in the backplate in line with the screw, so I could exercise the motor without dismantling the lens again. The hole is inboard of the sealing ring so water resistance is not compromised. The SDM still works after about 14 years, sometimes requiring use of the screwdriver which is kept in the camera bag. I don't use the lens much, if it was in frequent use the SDM might never have failed.
Having a quick look at the German tutorial reminded me that I managed to loose one of the tiny gold springs while dismantling the lens the second time, not down inside the lens, fortunately. I decided to sacrifice an unloved 28-90 and the parts were identical, I still have the spare springs and pins in a film canister.

SMC DA* 16-50 missing spring!

I lost one of those springs from my 16-50 the second time I took it apart to turn the SDM motor. The donor lens was a silver 28-90 lens and the springs were identical. It won't have to come apart ever again as I drilled a hole for a JIS screwdriver in the backplate in line with the end of the motor, which is inboard of the lens mount seal. My lens is one of the first ones made, optically very good even up to the edges, but prone to CA. I still have a film container with the other springs and pins sitting behind my pc.

SD card size and type for K7?

It would be wise to transfer your photo's to storage well before filling one of those large cards. Think of the consequences of a card failure with thousands of irreplacable shots on it. Also, formatting a card is much less likely to cause problems than continually deleting exposures.

Mini SDCard formatting

Iv'e been using SD cards ever since I could only afford a 250Mb one and have never broken one. Try to be a little less clumsy. I have no choice but to use micro SD card in my Samsung compact, they need greater care and should they be used in an adaptor, then trying different adaptors might solve the problem, as having double the ammount of connections to make cannot help the reliability.

I agree with several recommendations to make use of the lock slider on the card before putting it in the reader. Dont forget to unlock it before putting it back into the camera, though.

Crop factor

That is why I got a Sigma 10-20 when I went digital, to give a similar field of view to my old 15-30 Sigma on film. A friend of mine asked me if it was worth him going full frame, but as he was already cropping images from long lenses at his main interest of air shows, I advised him to get another APSC with a higher pixel count, and save his money.

You might try a little DOT4 brake fluid, as the strong types of paint stripper are not sold any more.

Just google SD cards and find a seller who still has cards of 2 gb. They will work fine and give you plenty of shots per card.
When you get one, format it in the camera before using it.

Carabez, in post #55, Pufferchung mentions having a broken KS2 which she can practice dismantling and have a source of the hotshoe and screws. I hope she will soon be able to give us some good news regarding the K3ii.

Help!! K3ii hotshoe came off

I've just found a YouTube video of a strip down of a K3ii which includes the top part. Having looked at it, the top can be removed quite easily using a small JIS screwdriver. If you know anyone who likes taking intricate things to bits and repairing them, it might be worthwhile showing them the video and finding out what they think about doing it for you.

I don't know what trigger voltage that Centon ringflash has, it is similar in appearance and vintage to my Cobra, I recon it's the same unit, which is under 8V. No doubt you will have tried it out before reading this. The tiny waterproofing cap for the sync socket is easy to loose, be careful and put it away safely.

That broken KS2 may also be a donor for the hotshoe, screws and the spring you lost. The screw length must be the same as the K3ii ones, you can probably get screws the same length on ebay, or shorten the KS2 ones with a little file if needed. Don't forget to find the missing screw and take the battery out of the K3ii before working on it. Good luck. Take your own pictures as you go if possible and reassemble in the reverse order.

It is not PK fitting, best not to fit it on the camera again in case it damages the body.
