What are you trying to say? The lens was not sent to Zeiss. It was sent to store. The store told me they WERE GOING to send to Zeiss, but they did not as they saw that the lens was REALLY faulty (they realized that I am not being picky on 10/10 sharpness).

NZRoss, It came today, I was very busy could not test thoroughly but it seems it works with no problem. Thank goodness. When I have time I ll have a through test though.
Well maybe sharpness is not 10, but the main reason I bought was color, contrast and bokeh hoanpham as you put it.

Today my camera arrived to the camera store, and they called me in the morning. They said lens is wrong (faulty), and they are sorry. They sent a new lens. I am suprised, was not expecting that. Its good to know that they are reasonable, and that they accepted it is faulty.
Now I am waiting finger crossed, hopefully its good.

OK I got a quick reply from Zeiss representative after I sent my samples. He suggested me to send the lens to service, and wished that I can get back from service soon.

I wrote to Zeiss Germany. My main point was that why a store owner would spend hours to convince unhappy customers rather than just simply return faulty products to Zeiss unless Zeiss has strict procedures on them. I asked for clarification. My question was not answered directly.
They quickly wrote an e-mail asking sample photos with EXIF. I will go home later and send to them (unfortunately the photos I put here don't have EXIF, stripped off by forum)
Update: I sent my samples to him, let's see. By the way I am adding a photo from my manual focus, SMC A 35-70 F4, from same distance, shutter and @35mm, aperture is 4.0

I would normally do that way to, but things are complicated. Companies here support themshelves very much. For Zeiss Japan, I think the prestige of a Japanese photography store/factory is more important than the Zeiss company itself. So I sent it to the photo store, they will send to factory.
I will wait a month, if not fixed by then, I will report to Zeiss Worldwide.
Yesterday I talked with a friend, last month he bought lenses and a camera worth of about 4500 $. He had a problem with flash mount with camera, he returned to store, and they told him to send it to factory himself since it has been more than a week. And this store is a big chain as well like Best Buy.
The bottomline is: lesson learnt, buy from Amazon.

That's the story in Japan. Technically, you cannot return a product in Japan unless the product is faulty. And 'faulty' is defined by the store owner. Yes, in many countries you can return a product in 30 days, just saying you did not like it, or you bought mistakenly. When I asked my Japanese friends about returning policies, they said "unheardof". Last month, when I was trying to return a product after a week, they were very surprised . Its a cultural shock to return a product in Japan.
So this store is the Legend Photography store in Japan., B&H Photo of Japan, the famous Fujiya Camera. as said on here Camera shopping in Tokyo pt. 1 – Shinjuku | Japan Camera Hunter or many other blogs, forums.
He told me it would take at least one month, and probably it cannot be fixed as most people had gone through same process. And the guy was laughing, when I said that I want to return it, or exchange with a Pentax lens. He laughed so hard. As if I said to him, the world is flat, or most bizarre thing ever.
For that reason I always buy my lenses Amazon or store itself by checking personally. I could not think that a Carl Zeiss Manual Focus lens could have a problem.
Update: (March 12-2013). I Though I wrote later in this thread that, I thought it may be good if I also edit this part for future visitors.
The next day I sent my lens, and Fujiya camera called me accepting that its faulty. And next day they sent me a new lens. It works fine. Also, I later noticed that they sent a letter of 3-4 paragraphs handwritten in Japanese, basically saying too much sorry ( I dont know Japanese but a friend translated).

OK.
I choose 35 mm as Focal length then shoot in every mode every different shutter, every possible Av, everything. It does not matter at all, because I cannot see in the viewfinder normal at all! I tried my other lenses perfectly fine, even my Pentax M 30-75 F4 is much sharper than this.
Sharpness:
DA 50 mm: 10
M 30-75: 7
Iphone: 5
Zeiss: 1
I talked with the store I bought. He said its normal. I pushed him, he said there were some other complaints from other people came as well. He told me thats normal that its not considered as a 'failure'. He told me that they can send to factory but I should not expect it to be repaired since it is difficult to repair. I should wait a month now.
That s what Zeiss Customer Service is about I understood after all.
Here are pictures I took,, focus is set to infinity on all. Even for 1 meter distance nothing is visible, and the guy tell me this is normal.
Just tell me if I did not burn 800$

I am interested in lens but I am totally disappointed. Well in the lens box it said something like 'Specially exclusive for Japan' (and on lens it says it is made in japan ). I saw something like Cosina too in the box.
I ll ask store to change it if they have another one. Do you think this specific malfunction is covered by warranty?

I cannot even see sharpness through viewfinder or LCD for objects farther than 0.5 meters, I did exactly nzross said.
I bought from a camera shop in another city online, there was a guarantee slip too, but i didnt look carefully if there was a sign, i ll check when I go home. but I'll return to retailer or ask for exchange. I bought it online

It came, but something is terribly wrong. Because this cannot focus more the 0.5 meters. When I take a picture 3 meters away its all blurred. Close distance is fine. I set aperture on lens both Auto and 22, and set the focus infinity but it does not work.
This is definitely worst lens I bought if I am not doing something wrong or this is a lemon. I tried my DA 50 mm it works fine. Pictures are so blurry that my Canon 550d or iphone take better pictures.
