During the monsoon, sometimes the clouds get caught between the mighty snow clad mountains in the Himalayas. During this times the clounds put on a spectacular show with lightning an thunder so loud the sides of the mountains shake.
This thunderstorm was caught in the Kangra Valley, India, where the Dalai Lama is running his exile government.

Wow, so many fantastic photos! Hard to follow but I guess even amateurs are allowed anyway.

Just a few pictures from the other day in Ranthambore National Park. I am very lucky having to go there often in my work. Pentax K5 and the Sigma 50-500 OSM. This combination is fantastic for wildlife where the animals are moving from far distance to very close. In this case I first spotted the tiger over 100 meters away and it got as close as 2 meters from my open vehicle.

Regarding nr.2. Great news! The consuming middle class in India is as big as the whole USA's and we really need weather sealed cameras. Sure, perhaps FF is not a priority here, but a camera like the K5II could sell like anything with the proper marketing. I am sure there are millions of photographers with Nikon D60s (still hugely popular here) just waiting to upgrade. I think I just wet my self a bit out of joy.

I don't care much for FF and this stuff but WHEN will I be able to buy Pentax cameras and lenses in India? India is a huge upcoming market and Pentax is not available here at all. So please ask them about plans for India, hundreds of millions of new potential customers can't be bad for any Pentaxian...

I am not posting these pictures because they are so great, but I just found this little fellow in the tree outside my house. As it was getting dark I had to shoot ISO 6400. Sigma 50-500 @ 500 mm and the Pentax K5. Anyway, for the sake of this thread, it really shows what you can do with the K5 even with a slow lens and low light...
Now to the question, it looks like a purple sunbird in some ways (the head and the beak) the the orange things on the side I have never seen. Any clue? |

I can't really agree that the 50-500 is so soft at a far distance. See this unaltered 100% crop from a day with a light drizzle. The building is 5.6 km (2.84 miles) away and you can still see the cables to the antennas. It is not a great picture but it is just an example of what this lens can do on a K5. Can post other pictures as well if you want to see.
Cheers! |

Polly likes K5, Polly likes K5, Polly likes K5. But my other friend, Mr. Kite, acted weird when he said he did not care much for cameras but liked squirrels - a lot! And if you look closely, you can even see him drool a bit before he said, with a pinch of salt and butter and laughed like a crazy professor. I later the same day met Dotty the Owl who almost got jealous about how good my K5 could see with the new Sigma 50-500.

Woke up last night because all the squirrels where howling at the moon outside my bedroom. This is my first shot of the moon with my new Sigma. Freehand @500mm f7.1 and 1000/1 and iso 160 so quite under exposed and fixed in Photoshop. Still a lot of details in the moon. I love the Sigma 50-500 HSM! |

Mr. Sanjay Squirrel will surely fight at Otis side to ensure the freedom for anyone to give the K5 a "Highly Recommended". Watch out for the right uppercut all naysayers!

Just got my shiny and brand new Sigma 50-500 HSM APO and what better than to send a picture to Otis from an Indian friend as the first try? Oh, he also got a short visit from a Red-whiskered Bulbul for the short time I could be outside between the heavy showers. It has been raining all day (damn you monsoon, enough already!) so it has been bad light and really dark all day.
Anyway, for being two of my first shots with this heavy lens I am surprised of the quality!

Officially I don't think it will ever come as I think K10 was the last camera to be officially imported to India? But I guess there should be cameras on the grey market sooner or later.
Anyway, travelling to Europe in mid Jan so perhaps I have to wait untill then :(

Not really Indian but I do live in India since little over 2,5 years now - if that counts :D. Seems like I am the only Pentax user in all of Rajasthan?

Hi all! I'm Henric, born and raised in Sweden but shifted to India a year ago and am now living in the beautiful city of lakes in southern Rajasthan. If it hadn't been for work, my Pentax would get a lot of exercise in the narrow alleys but as it is now I mainly use it at work taking pictures of staff and buildings. But even for that it is a great tool!
Great to see other people in India with Pentax, it gives me hope of finding lenses and other things. First out is a grip though.
Anyway, as this is not my memoirs I better rush of to a different forum :)
