Film MF or Digital K1

Every image digital or analog need processing, expecting out of camera brilliance from any equipment is unrealistic in my opinion.

The thing I find interesting about the FA limiteds in partiular though, is that to me it is all about balance and lens design and qualities that are difficult to quantify.
Personally I highly value the output from the FA43 in particular, but have also found both the 77 and 31 impressive.

Much like I adore say the nikkor 35/1.4 G and 58/1.4G, the canon 50/1.2 and 85/1.2 on paper or in objective test on an optical bench neither of these lenses seem to be cutting edge in terms of results, yet when you look at the final image in print, they have something going for them. Somthing missing from objectively perfect lenses.
The pentax105/2.4 for 67 and 165/4LS are much in the same category for me.

It is not about absolute wow factor, but much rather about how subtle differences in rendering makes a subtle but significant difference in the images that is hard to pin down, but certainly there.

It is all fluffy and hard to quantify preferences, but none the less how I feel and one of the reasons I still shoot the Pentax 67ii for protraiture work in particular.

Film and digital is two completely different mediums for me personally, so I would not consider them interchangeable.

If you do not go the 645 route for an autofocus body, then I would agree with others and go for the larger 67 format.

My workhorse currently is a Pentax 67ii with a set of primes from 55-300mm roughly 28-135 in 35mm terms and the quality of the negatives especially with monochrome or positive film is nothing short of amazing, but it is a different medium and thus difficult to compare the two.
Shooting film is not cheap though, so the K1 is probably the more affordable option in the long run.

Need help with Pentax 67

a few thoughts on the subject and hopefully helpful.

1. if you mean DOF equivalent f numbers when comparing 35mm and 67, using the diagonal as a reference, as they are different rectangular formats and assuming similar field of view,
Then for practical purposes the 105mm 67 lens at f2.4 will roughly equal a 50mm lens on 35mm format at f1.1, f4=f1.9, f5.6=f2.7, f8=f3.8. roughly a 2 stop difference.
It is quite useful to keep in mind if you come from 35mm or APS-C format and are not quite sure what to expect from a 67 camera.

2. takes a lot of practice, especially wide open. focus and recompose will be very likely to throw off focus. I shoot a 67ii and while I do see occasional misfocused images, then I have found it to be a practise thing. shooting it almost daily helps.
On the 67ii I tend to get precise focus using the micro prism and then the ground glass to correct for any misalignment or movement during when recomposing.

3. I have the latest model, but i think some changes to coatings and to the use of radioactive materials in the coatings on some of the older ones.

4. never heard of it

5. a definite yes. i find the 67ii a lot brighter and easier to focus.

6. I do not know any repair shops in the US, hopefully others will be able to help you out. Personally I use a local one in Copenhagen, Denmark.

Gorgeous...
My copy has a near perfect shutter curtain and a roll of double X loaded btw :)
I have a Meyer Optik Gorlitz 50/2.8 for it too, it currently sits on my EXA 1 though :)

Interesting information and I have to admit that while the Exakta is a joy to use from a mechanical point of view, then it is not equipped with the best finder I have seen, which make sense given your explanation.

Now that 100/3.5 I am very jealous of... very nice looking classics :)

I actually do not know, but I hardly think it is the shutter as it is a fairly quiet design, similar in design to the shutter assembly found in most box cameras.

It had a sibling in the Click model

Thus Agfa had a.click clack line of simple consumer cameras offering a 6x6 or 6x9 format option.
The early ones (like the one in the picture) had all metal bodies where as the newer once were made from plastic.

here is a picture of a newer plastic version of the click:

Thanks Arnold.
Simple and very intelligent design, the curved film plane combined with the single element lens makes for a surprisingly sharp design.

The 1/30 ish shutter speed though is a touch on the long side for handhold shooting, but on a tripod and for long exposures it actually performs quite well :)

Why would they have a fit over a camera at the climbing gym?
My 67ii and other cameras has spend a lot of time with me on a rope...
just strap your 67 up like this:

It is not much different from working on ropes in the mountains or from a helicopter in flight :)
Why not ask the owners? they might like the idea if set up correctly.
