Hi All,
Happy Memorial weekend and God bless this nation.

I was fortunate enough to purchase a 60 - 250 f4 about a year ago. I love this lens. Recently just purchased a 300 mm f4 used from KEH. OMG, this lens is awesome without converter and awesome with the new 1.4x converter. Just love on ur spouse and get one for flowers, birding, and long distant shots. I know not cheap, but u will not regret having this lens. Both my wife and I have cameras, so we really have best of both worlds. K-01 also handy with another lens. Just wanted to share about the 300. When I saw my first pics, I said wow!

This is a wonderful website to share.

:)

Bye for now,

Tim,
Kaption is a separate interest in kiting where you do take a camera up with a kite. The camera controlled from the ground with special equipment. You get some fantastic photos. I am more into show kites, banners, and 4-line stunt kites. There are many areas of kiting to get into.

Hard to believe, but walked into kite shop 14 years ago and said" $125 for a kite, you gotta be crazy." Well now 14 years later I have invested approx. $30,000 in kites. Wonderful hobby with wonderful people. I get to put a lot of smiles on peoples faces aged 3 to 93. I have been more than paid back. I know sounds nutsy, but true.:)

Of course you understand that no 2nd home, no motorhome, no boat, no college to pay now, and all kids married.

Life is good!!!!! Just retired end of 2013. Now spending more time with photography. I have been blessed.

Thanks,

Larry

Hi Ron,

Do you use the same settings for both cameras or some difference in K7 vs K5?

Thanks,

Hi and Happy New Year,

I am not a professional, just photo enthusiast. Presently own k7 and k01. My wife generally uses k01, also better for higher ISO. Am I better off looking for good used k5 or wait on a used k5ii or k5iis? I would keep the k7 since prices dropped and still good camera. I have several lenses to use on both the k7 and k01.
There is definite image quality difference with k01, but not unhappy with k7 quality.
Maybe other option on camera, but now used to using k7. Not going to purchase k3.

Thanks, Kiteman

k5ii or k5iis

Good Morning Everyone,

Just want to say thank you for ALL the input that the members provide in answering questions that many of us have regarding all areas of photography. :)

I am retiring at the end of next month and will have more time to spend on photography as a hobby-enthusiast. Going to wait and see what BLACK Friday brings for deals. Don't really need to do this, but hey, Christmas season is upon us.

Right now my camera bodies are K7 and K01 that my wife and I share as she too enjoys photography. I will more than likely keep present camera bodies.

Lens inventory = DA 60-250, Sigma 17-50, DA 16-45, DA 15, 40m XS, Sigma 30 1.4 and couple of F lenses.

Considering K5ii or K5iis as primary body should good deal come up. I see k5iis works better with higher quality lens. and some risk of moire'. Most photo shoots are outdoors.

I think that I know which body, but want to see your thoughts. I realize that this question has been asked by many------- just looking for reassurance. This will probably be last time to purchase a camera.

Thanks, Kiteman Larry

Sigma 17-50mm or 17-70mm?

Andi,

Thank you, I think you are correct. I am going to go with the F2.8 17-50. I will keep the 16-45 F4 on the K-01. We have been very pleased with that lens.

Since K-7 does struggle with grain above 800, best I go with larger aperture.

Appreciate the advice. :)

Sigma 17-50mm or 17-70mm?

Fall Greetings to Everyone,

I have 2 cameras---- k7 and k01. My lenses: F 35-70, F 70-210, XS 40, 30 F1.4, F4 15. 16-45 F4, & 60-250 F4. My wife uses K01 with 16-45 a lot. The 16-45 is a sharp lens. I am looking to add one other lens to go with k7, this would be mostly walk around lens. I realize that 35-70 fills gap and that the 40 is good walk around, but limiting.

I am considering one of 2 zooms by Sigma: 17-70 contemporary or 17-50 F2.8. There is not much price difference in the lenses with $100 discount on the F2.8.

What do you think? Is some other lens that I should consider?

Thanks

Thank you responses and input. I will wait for the sigma 18-35 F1.8 and see reviews. In meantime have ordered a flash which never had.. The Tamron good with F2.8, but will work wth the sigma 30 f1.4 and also have DA 16-45 F4 which is very sharp.

Have a great Fall day everyone. :):):)

Hi to all,

Just looking for opinions on what you would recommend for low light zoom indoor. I currently have primes of DA XS 40 mm and Sigma 30 F1.4. Maybe I don't even need to consider a zoom, but sometime easier to use than a prime.

Thanks

Hi to all,

I have been shooting interior pics of homes with lens quite open and getting a curved shadow on some photos near the bottom center. Has to be something simple, but what? The clarity of photos is great.

Thanks,

Greetings,

Now that I have the *DA 60 - 250 f4 lens, do you have any recommendations for possible teleconverters? I see that the Kenko works with SDM lens. What are your thoughts? Maybe not even consider using one.

Thks,

Kiteman

DA 60 - 250 or DA 300 ?

I did not disclose that I already have an F 70 -210 which is not bad for an older lens. The comment made about shooting more at the long end of the 60 -250 is probably right on correct. Therefore, probably smarter to go with longer reach of the 300.

Any other decent teleconverters that would work with the 300 besides the 1.7x ?

Thanks,

Larry

Greetings to ALL,

If you could select from only 1, which would you chose? Going to be used for traveling, landscape, nature, and wildlife basically. I know both are great lenses, but hard to pick. 300 probably sharpest and more compact, but other has maybe more versatility.

What do you think? :hmm:

What lens for British Columbia?

Morning to ALL,

I will be traveling from Prince George around to Dawson Creek, to Watson Lake, then south along western side past Bear Glacier, heading south back to Prince George, Wiliams Lake, west to Bella Coola, then headed home. So yes, I will be in northern BC. I have been twice to Bella Coola knowing it not to be in the north part of BC.

Back to lenses, thanks for input. I do have wide range covered with 15 mm ltd and 16-45. Maybe my F 70 - 210 is all that is needed. The DA 300 mm is sort of appealing, but more expensive. I will not be doing a tremendous amount of walking. How about the 120 - 400 zoom? I think it is a Sigma.

Thks :)

What lens for British Columbia?

Hey All & Happy New Year,

Headed to British Columbia for a couple of weeks in the northern part. We have been there twice before and if you have not been there you are missing out. Previously been in Bella Coola area, but going further north before returning to Bella Coola for a few days. Obviously my wife and I love nature, landscapes, and animals. Looking for a longer lens and we are going this fall. My longest lens is pentax f70-210. I am not spending 5 - 6 k. So what other lens might you suggest. Two cameras are k-7 and k-01. I am thinking some kind of zoom----pentax or sigma. I am open to responses. Just remember, it is my money, not yours. :) I really like this website because everyone is soooooooooooo helpful and courteous. Some of you are even funny. Please keep under $1200 -1300 or there abouts.

Thanks for your input.

I see B&H extended the time 1 more day for the Sigma 30 mm f 1.4. Which would be better F28 mm f/2.8, FA 28 mm f/2.8, or the Sigma 30 mm f/1.4? I am still chewing on it------------------------------ chew, chew, chew.

What do u think? I already have 1 vote for the Sigma.

Thanks.

I think that DA 21 mm to close to my DA 15 and that FA 35 f/2 to close to my 40 mm xs. The Sigma 30 mm looks like good deal, but ratings in Photozone are so,so. Do I pull trigger on the Sigma or live with my DA 16-45 f/4 which is not near as fast. Could look for 28 mm used, but see one at KEH for $315.????????????

Love your comments about needing another lens, and another, and another :hmm:.

I await ALL your knowledge, and I know that you are loven it cause not your $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$.

Thanks

PS------- Do some of you do this full time on here? :)

Hi All,

I have a k-7 & new k-01 with zoom range covered from 35 - 210. My primes are 40mm xs & 15 mm ltd. Would it be helpful to add a low light lens in 30, 35, or 50 range? Looking for suggestions, this is not a have to.

Thanks for your help.
