K5 image stabilisation

Being new to the K5 (ex Canon user) I wondered what other users think about the K5's image stabilisation? In particular, whether it should only be turned on when it's required. I can't help but feel that having electronics whirring away in the background when not required (e.g. using my 43mm Limited outdoors during the day) ain't a good thing. Also, been getting inconsistent results with my new 15mm Limited; some soft and some sharp - wondered whether anything to do with image stabilisation interference. :hmm:

Just joined Pentax Forums and thought I'd say hello - so "hello"!

I'm a long time Canon user and have just made the big decision to offload all my gear and switch to Pentax. My first ever SLR was a Pentax Program A (c. 1985) and I've had a soft spot for Pentax ever since; feels like I'm coming home. The decision to move away from Canon wasn't just sentimental though, I only shoot primes have become tired of lugging a heavy Canon body and large - and far too conspicuous - L glass. I'm switching to Pentax dSLR for general use and have already got hold of a new Fuji X100 for travel use, which has stellar IQ by the way.

I've got a K5 and 43mm FA f1.9 on order, which should arrive next, to get the ball rolling. I got the cheaper K5 rather than K5iis just in case Pentax bring out a FF next year; in any event the IQ I've seen from the K5 looks more than adequate for my need, certainly better than a 7D.

Looking forward to using the one of the holy trinity Limited lenses!
