How does it work? Does it produce two horizontally squashed images, or two normal images in portait orientation?
If images are not compressed, then it limits photographer to portrait orientation, right?
If they are compressed, then landscape orientation is preserved, at cost of horizontal resolution.

So - is it a kind of anamorphic lens to compress image or not?

You are right, it is not very hard :) Just harder than autofocus, but otherwise it is fine.
And what like so much is that this lens is very sharp where it should be. See a 100% crop from one of portraits:

This photo shows extreme field curvature of this lens. Notice that in the center focus is at buildings far away, while close to edges it is on a fine net which is just about 1 meter away :)

This is one of first shots. Works fine on APS-C. It is going to be fun.

40 degrees yesterday? Nice :) It's -13 today on the opposite side of the Earth.
Thank you very much for pictures, this is what I was thinking about! :)
I'll order mine today.

Hold on! :)
If you setup a tripod and swap cameras, then the result will be more or less equivalent to cropping in postprocessing.
I was thinking more about approaching the same scene/subject, and then creatively framing/composing with one camera and then the other. Changed sensor size may force you to "zoom with your feet, etc". This is something that I cannot predict without Sol 45 on my K-70.

BTW, I feel more and more convinced to buy this Sol 45.
I spend long time debating on this because usually I'm a fan of wide angle shots. 45 mm on APS-C is definitely far from wide angle :) But if it is giving nice results, I'll try it.

So please take some pictures with Sol 45 and KP. I'm considering Sol 45 but I have K-70 only.
I can crop sample pictures from Sol45 to see what will be left on APS-C. But typically photographer with the same lens but different sensor size will change the composition. This is why I'd like to see some pictures really taken with your KP - when you were actually looking with cropped angle of view while taking the picture.

I bought this camera in US. Actually failure happened in last weeks of US warranty. But shipping camera there and back would cost more than the repair in Poland. I bought more Pentax equipment this way so I can say that I saved more on price differences anyway :)

K70 aperture block?

My K-70 aperture control failed in late August. I sent it for repair to authorized service in Warsaw. Unfortunatelly it was out-of-warranty repair, ~140 USD (517 PLN).
BTW, interesting how reliable is new electronic aperture control in 55-300 PLM lens. More reliable then in-body mechanism? Time will tell.
(I have this lens, so I was able to shoot some photos even after body failure.)
