FF was a fad? If your interpretation to the Rep's statements is correct, then there will be a few unhappy campers come Photokina time.. hehe

Even at half price the 645Z would be too costly for many people. It will be interesting to see what comes of the 645Z!

Oh, and you know well it is dangerous to sample all of those cameras.. esp the K-3.. once you get a taste, it is easy to want more of it. :cP

A really scenic place and good lighting. A beautiful place. Yes it's too bad you didn't have a polarizer, from the angle of the sun it would have been effective on the sky. I don't know if you had a 1a or 1b filter on because in the mountains the blue wavelength of the light scatters and makes the distant mountains look hazy on film and sensors, a haze filter would help knock some of that down. Some can be corrected in pp but it's best to start with the best you can get on the sensor as a starting point. I agree with the majority it looks like as to cropping out a lot of the sky. My preference would be to maybe crop in a little from the left to place the castle a little different in the frame, a different feel, just a thought, really I could go either way on that point. Since everyone is taking a run at pp on this here is my go at it. I posted it here.

I think Sony's choice of relatively small maximum aperture lenses is a cynical attempt to perpetrate the myth that "mirrorless" cameras hold a huge advantage in size/weight. The 70-200 f4 isn't all that much smaller (or lighter) than a more typical FF 70-200 f2.8, and there's not that many outside of the mirrorless fanatic base that can't see that a "mirrorless FF" means "thin body with big lens," which in turn means an awkward, front-heavy package that is poor in terms of handling.

I don't know if I'd describe the group you're talking about as the "gearhead crowd," since that's probably a bit bigger than what you're describing, which is what I'd call the "mirrorless fanatics" or "mirrorless cheerleaders" or "mirrorless fanboys." My favorite description of mirrorless cameras is that they are "A solution looking for a problem." Maybe since they are so strident about their view that mirrorless is "the future" into which all cameras will be assimilated, I should call this bunch the "Mirrorless Nazis."

I think what you're saying makes sense. Mirrorless Nazis love to wax eloquent about the "technology" of mirrorless cameras, but their tired analogies of film vs. digital (typically) simply don't ring true. A mirrorless camera is not a better tool than an DSLR, and in fact is in significant ways a worse tool by far. THAT is why mirrorless won't be "taking over," unless it's a push from camera manufacturers (as in they decide to eliminate other choices for photographers for reasons that have nothing to do with what photographers prefer and everything to do with cost cutting and simplification of production). Mirrorless isn't a "better mousetrap," the way digital is compared with film. It's that simple. It doesn't solve any problem a DSLR presents, and introduces new ones. Maybe the A7/A7r, instead of being the beginning of increased market penetration for mirrorless, will be the camera that shows a lot of photographers just how poor a tool for photography mirrorless cameras are compared with a DSLR, and reaffirms the DSLR as the best tool for photography.

But that puts us back to a 3 camera line. k-500, k-50, k-3 and pricing at very roughly $600, $700 and $1300. k-500 and k-50 with da 18-55 k-3 body only. Way too big a gap between $700 and $1300 IMHO. Something does not seem right.

You're hoping in something which won't happen.
I don't get why you people are hoping Pentax will change the mount; isn't it much easier for you to go with a mirrorless system, instead of an entire company to betray their tradition and it's users?
And the claim that Pentax should abandon a market much larger "if they want to live"... you must be living in a parallel universe.

I suggest you send your story to Pentax USA, especially since you drove 50 miles for an advertised event. Of course, with the Boston situation and American Airlines being down the other day, there could be a legit excuse...

Hello to all from Prague, Czech Republic!

I wish to greet all members of these forums for great posts and discussions. It was very helpful when I was still choosing my first DSLR system last fall, and the fact that Pentax has such passionate and dedicated community was one of the reason I bought K-30 in October 2012. Since then I used lens database extensively for tips and directions in getting additional lens.

Well the funny thing is alomost everything we were hoping for was dismissed :S

1. The Pentax USA Boss doenst know what Metz is doing? -> Nice fail

2.Customer Communication ?
->Finally something, but i thing we should wait until somebody get a real answer translated by this mysterious "fluent japanese" person.

3.Weather-sealed primes ?
-> Nothing in the work? Seriously Pentax what is "in the work"? Well is anyone at work at all?

4.Hackability ?
-> Again you didn't thought about that ? Well of course nobody of them uses any Nikon oder Canon Camera, so he doenst know that some nerd gadget like tethering even exists( pure irony)

5. APS-C vs. FF
-> Wow, that was awesome, so again they fool themselfs in being competitiv in APS-C  and that 645D is their " larger" sensor....
-> With CaNikon i can by a D7000 and slowly build a expensive, but first-class lens-lineup in full frame, and i am even able to use it on the D7000, then one day i can buy an old used D600 oder 5D etc. and iam perfectly fine...
-> Pentax things that if i want something bigger than APS-C is will just invest 15k in the blink of an eye.... (you cant be serious about that......)

I agree. Unless the next 645D is priced below $5,000 and has a full sized Sony CMOS MF sensor (not a cropped 645), it is not a substitute for a FF professional body. There are only 3 or 4 lenses even available in the USA for the 645 system.

It is probable that mirrorless cameras will eat into APS-C SLR sales over time, but I really doubt that they will bother full frame SLR sales for quite a long time. Even on an APS-C camera, there is only so much savings in space that you gain by getting rid of the mirror and the lenses remain decent sized. Stick an f2.8 zoom on a full frame mirrorless camera and see how it handles. Or even an 85mm f1.4. Honestly, a K5 sized body would be the smallest I would want to go for a full frame camera. Shrink it more and I am not interested...

The big difference then is an EVF versus an optical viewfinder and on full frame, it will be quite awhile before an EVF can measure up to the big and bright viewfinders available on full frame cameras. On four thirds and even on APS-C, an EVF doesn't have to be as good in order to beat their standard viewfinder (particularly pentamirrors).
