I have the Sigma 150-500 and I am very satisfied with it, especially considering it can be had for $900. I took the picture below handheld using the IS on the lens.
My question is whether the K-3 is worth +$600 if they come out with the K-60? Interesting question since I have a new unopened K-3 from B&H sitting next to me as I write this.

I would have a hard time pulling trigger on this without the 50mm of the old deal. Once I saw that deal hard to settle for less.

I ended up not attending the last class, it was too cold and I wasn't getting much out of it the class anyhow. I hear you guys about getting my money back but it wasn't that much and not worth the trouble. Anyhow it made for a good story and got some peoples blood boiling on the forum so it may have been money well spent. Anyhow, after i buttered my toast with my M 50mm 1.7 it started taking clearer pictures;)

I don't think you can say they are more cautious. The K-3 has some interesting features and is reasonably priced. They must be selling fairly well.

There is no brand on it. It simply doesn't fit. It has the red dot but will not rotate and lock. It was too inexpensive to send back. Not a great picture.

I just checked prices at B&H for the heck of it. Are Bower, Rokinon, Samyang and Vivitar all the identical lens? There were priced from $299 to $399 with Bower the lowest and Rokinon the highest. Oh, I just noticed the Vivitar says it is 13mm and looks a little different.

I have to admit I have been wanting a wider lens for taking pictures at car shows. Maybe I should consider the 14mm.

I have a 28mm and 135 mm Promaster from the 70's and they are not very good. I don't use them at all anymore. They were my fathers so i kept them. His M50 1.7 is a gem though.

how do they decide this? i can't see someone paying $1,300 when it was almost $1,000. Though i must admit I feel a little like I missed the boat on this, though I am sure it will come back down soon enough.

At the camera class I mentioned at the beginning of the thread the instructor mentioned that in one of his other classes someone brought in a Canon 400MM or something like that. He said more than half the class was able to try it out on their cameras. You have to admit that is an advantage. It is also a good way to proliferate the brand if even on person invested in that lens.

I thought there might be some standards. It is easy to see why a manufacturer would fudge the numbers. It would be really hard for a user to prove it was off. Not like when Ford fudged the MPG for their hybrids, it was obvious to the customer.

But Pentax have to compete on some level. I wonder what their break even point is for a camera like the K-3? Does Ricoh break out profit for the Pentax brand? It would be interesting to see if it makes them money and if it does where it stands with other Ricoh businesses.

Exactly my point. It would really hard for Pentax to get to that point, they would have to displace some other vendor to get shelf space. Most of these stores (Best Buy, Costco, Walmart, etc) are only going to carry so many medium or high end cameras.

It is not just about borrowing gear, though that is a nice thing to have. It is also about having someone you can ask a question of if needed. In my office there are enough Canon and Nikon owners that folks can find someone with a similar camera. The only way i can find someone with a Pentax is if i sell someone my K-30 (I know just the guy) when i upgrade.

I didn't realize that ISO could be so different between manufacturers. I read a thread earlier bashing DXO, I guess they do serve a purpose if they expose this like this.

Since these lenses are manual does it makes sense to just get a legacy manual lens for less? What is the attraction of these lenses?

I bought a cheap set of extension tubes on Ebay and they never locked into place so it was always a risk when I attached a lens. They are now collecting dust (I should just throw them out) now that I bought a proper macro lens.

I went from the kit lens to the 18-135. It is a nice lens a I like that with it my kit is weather resistant. before I got it there were a few times I had to pack it up because it starting raining and though my camera could take it my lens couldn't.

I can't get over how small the lenses looked in your hands. It seems like less than 1/2 the size of my k-30.

it is incredible, one day there are a few at $1,025 and the next it is $1,297. Once I see the low price I could never pay the higher price.I wonder if they sell any at the list on Amazon?
