I got mine back in August, from a Costco special. it might have been wiser to try elsewhere, specifically for that sweet, sweet 18-135mm WR lens, rather than the 18-55mm DA-L, but the free Optio, case, and sd card sold it to me. Parents got the optio to play with on a trip to Niagara, and are pleased.

Hi there.
Just wanted to say hi, and thanks to all of you members for providing such insight.
I recently (as in, August of this year) made the choice to get back into amateur photography, after a decision to get out of it in the early 2000s. there was a period where I lost track of the actual photography aspect of this hobby, and instead became more interested in acquisition and resale of film equipment...that was what made me step away.
I went with blue K-30 because I wanted something distinct (and not only in body color!) and a bit higher end (relatively) still image wise than your typical canon rebel. My father in his younger years used the Kmount system, though the equipment is long gone, but the idea of the K1000 attracted me--though no such body exists in the Pentax dSLR world, apparently.
Eventually, I picked up a Bumblebee (yellow) K-01 recently due to the price reduction, and I love the interchangeability of lenses. Now I find myself learning even more rapidly than before, and I love it!
Although I find that Pentax/Ricoh itself has made some unfortunate (in my limited knowledge) decisions regarding lens pricing and quality, and full frame bodies, I am satisfied that I have the tools I need to relearn the hobby I cared about a little under a decade ago. This site's enthusiastic members and the equipment database have helped tremendously in making my decision to become a novice Pentaxian photographer. Just...thought I'd get that out there.
