I know all three batteries use different chargers. I charged all three at the same time by plugging the Pentax charges in around the house. The third contact must do something to the onboard memory because if I put the AA pack in with brand new batteries the date and time has to be reset EVERY time the camera is turned on. With the Li battery in the body I only loose time settings when the battery is removed and reinstalled.
It does not appear to recharge the on memory battery or at lest 12hr was not long enough.

Well the K-5 arrived a few days ago. Looks brand new other than a tiny scratch along the edge of the battery release lever. Map Camera went out of their way in packaging and shipping. Free 2nd day air from Japan. AND then I discovered there was nothing wrong with my K-30. Check the thread to find out. K-30 internal battery / capacitor replacement for clock |

My "New" K-5 showed up and I decided to give the battery in it a full charge and decided to charge the battery in the K10D and K-30. That's when I found the problem.
Years ago I had picked up the Pentax AA battery holder for the K-30. Some time late last year I had drained the rechargeable battery and put the holder in with a fresh set of batteries and than forgot about it. Because of covid I haven't taken many photos this year and the battery indicator showed a full bar so I never thought anything about it. Well I charged the Li battery and put it in and the problem went away. I can now turn it off and back on and everything is saved.
That's when I got looking at the AA pack and noticed there is only two tabs on it as opposed to three on the Li. My guess is the third tab on the Li is a lower voltage output to maintain the memory and keep the on board battery charged. Wish Pentax had put that in the instructions with the battery holder or maybe they did and "old-timers" over took me.
Cheers everyone.

But if the main battery is NOT removed wouldn't that keep the memory powered?

My K-30 developed a similar problem a few months ago. A fully charged main battery is in it but when I switch it off and back on I have to set everything like it was a new camera before I can even take a photo. Doesn't the main battery keep the memory and only the onboard battery saves it when the main is pulled out?

One listing was from Florida and the rest Japan so it could be high humidity but with that said I have purchased over a dozen used lens over the years and most were from Japan followed by the east coast of the US. Never had an issue. I sold off my 645D system and I'm regretting now parting with the 120 macro. I should have kept it and bought the adapter. I would like to get the A mount 100 2.8 but will have to save up more. I was just wondering if I got one if I would someday have glass issues.

Why do macro lenses seem to have a disproportionate problem with the glass? I have bought used lenses from eBay, Amazon, and BnM stores for decades. I have only owned one true macro lens and that was for my medium format. Well I'm in the market for a 100 2.8 macro. Don't know which version I'll go with yet, A, F, FA, or DA. Searching I find most descriptions for a used macro seems to indicate haze, or separation or fungus. I'm wondering why these conditions attack macros more than any others?

Wasn't the K-5 Introduced at the same time as the K-30. I want to avoid any aperture issues.

Yes I have studied reviews here as well as other forums. My budget is limited to most likely under $200. I shoot outdoors mostly and sometimes with flash. Main interest is landscape and railroads.

My K-30 I bought new in 2013 is slowly dying. It took a fall a when a couple months old and I replaced the top and has been fine until this year. First when I changed batteries I would have to reset everything. Now just turning it off and back on immediately I still loose all settings. I've been lucky in that it has shown no signs of ABF. I have a K10D which is a sweetheart of a jem. I love CCD. I had a Pentax 645D but sold it due to difficulty with arthritis.
But what to replace it with? I would like a body capable of video so that lets out the K20D. The K-7 started after the Hoya takeover though I haven't heard of a lot of problems with it. I want to avoid the ABF syndrome so I'm not certain if that would include K-5 or K-3. Would love a used K-P but I'm retired now and funds are slim. Battery grip is a plus but not a total deal breaker.
Would the K-7 be the most reliable? I shoot mostly landscapes and occasional outdoor action. My largest prints are 11by17 and I do 99% of cropping with the lens. I've convinced myself the K-7 would be best or I have overlooked a body?

Have they droped the top screen from all sets? The description from the K5 and K7 sets lists two pieces.

I picked up a mint K10D (236 activations) on the Bay and ordered a ACMAXX screen protector. It only includes the rear screen. So I'm wondering if I get a K7 or K5 set if I could use the top protector on the K10D and use the rear protector on my K30.
